If they used traditional lofts the ball would go way too high because of the tech in the bottom of the club head.

There are lofted GI irons like the Qi10 HL and its counterparts. The thing is they have this club built with extra "jump" off the lower part of the face. But normal strikes don't have this tech so they do what the "normal" loft would do. That's the point of it being made to increase forgiveness. It is designed to do as close to the same thing every time, regardless of where on the face you hit it.

You can mix & match between the Qi's and HL's. This is my quest for a fitting. looking to go HL (5-7) then Qi (8-AW). This loft configuration is basically one club down from my current TM set, if I include the 3 rescue. I play everything off the 7 iron at 150yds, and work my irons up or down by 10 yds from there. Been playing traditional old fashioned lofting for 30 years, and I'm not changing.

I would say the sizing is similar across the lines, the Callaway Ai Smoke may be slightly smaller but not by much

Yeah in person they aren't as big as you'd think. They are normal for GI irons imo.

Maybe go lighter then! I would recommend getting fit if possible!

That extra club length could result in some swing lag, so it's a possibility! I am not there to see if that actually is the case, but it isn't out of possibility at all. It's okay to have different builds on your clubs as long as it works for you and gives you results! Another note, the P790s are generally less forgiving than the Qi irons. The Qi also has different cavity designs on the longer irons from the short ones. So this is something about how most iron sets have the same exact technology and build concept all across the set, but the Qi does not. The shorter irons serve a totally different purpose than their long counterparts. And TM designed this set to match the purpose of the club. The long irons do not have that plated cavity that the shorts have. I would consider trying the Qi long irons specifically if you are looking for something easier to hit.

Either way, it's still not a 7 iron. I hate the way golf manufacturers jack the loft then tell us that the ball goes further. No, really?!

Exactly. Lower spin equals less control into the greens and the need to buy two extra wedges.

I agree with you. But I also checked these compared to my starter set and can say that I gained yardage and the loft of the clubs was the same. In my case at least. My 7I went from 160 to 175

PXG are probably a tad more player like in styling and are as long. TM are probably slightly more forgiving

@@hannahholdenNCG Thanks for replying on this Hanna. Unfortunately the PXGs are not as excess-able to go try out, it is about 3 hours away to a PXG store. And to my eye, I like the looks of the PXG more. I just need to go hit them.

That's actually the target audience. Mid-to-Low HCP.

Agreed! That would be so optimal for fitting but the problem is cost. If every fitter had every club head it would cost loads. Maybe having like 9,7,5 would be a good middle ground

I can tell you now that the club does not have 5 iron loft. Maybe 6 but not 5. They also give you the ideal spin numbers for their respective club, which you don't get just by removing loft alone.

My general 7-iron carry distance is 154 yards but I don't have an iron that is the same loft
