@agyayawamoako-atta3156 the road I'm the video isn't continuous so it's not technically the longest road. There's a break in the road. This comment is using the same logic that the video uses... They haven't technically been awake for 2 days straight because they slept in the middle. That road isn't the longest because it breaks.
I'm from South America and i new the moment you reach Panamá, there was no way in HELL you could put a "road" through The Darién Gap😂. So yeah people, the road stops in Panamá.
Just because it’s not ready to pave doesn’t mean you can’t put a road. We have modern technology such as axes, chainsaws, and bulldozers. Pretty simple.
@@VCRiderBy that logic a road from russia to the end of europe broken through the atlantic ocean which continues throughout america is the longest road.
Fun fact: British citizen George Meegan was the first person ever to walk the full length of this road. It took him 2462 days, starting in 1977 and finishing in 1983. He passed away in Jan 2024 at age 71.
Thatll never happen, itll be a road connecting the United States and Russia, which they arent on good terms. If it were to happen itd be heavily militarized from both sides.
Some of you crazy Russians built vehicles that act as boats, but can also has wheels and can drive onto the ice sheets, so in a way there’s still a road from Russia to Alaska😂
Minor trivia: the inhospitable nature of Darien is one of the major reasons the United Kingdom exists. Financial losses from a failed attempt to colonise Darien was one of the reasons the Scottish nobility agreed to union with England in 1707.
So Scotland was trying to colonize the jungle? Doesn't really seem like their kinda turf : / .... or their behavior.... but I guess that's a modern impression...
@@theoriginalmonstermaker Scotland tried to copy England and Colonize places but they just sucked at it. Now they are jealous of England past success and knowing they are financially dependent on them.
Haha! My grandpa said the same stuff, he would say things like "You kids don't know how easy you have it! Back in my day I only earned a nickel for mowing lawns around town, 7 cents for plowing snow, and 10 cents for raking a yard of leaves!" Then he'd give more and more shit until I would usually threaten to leave before he'd eventually give me a fair price ($10-20).
The Darian Gap is an area with hostile tribes that will and have killed anyone that enters their lands. Road survey crews had tried to complete the highway in the 60's but many of them were killed. Panama then tried to send government workers down there to pacify the tribes but they too were killed or chased out. Panama then decided to give them their autonomy and have banned all travel through the area.
@@brianzimmerman4014yet still thousands travel through on their way to emigrate to more northern countries chaperoned by armed cartel members who ironically will also kill you if you do something wrong. I highly recommend watching baldandbankrupt's video about him taking that path posing as a russian.
@@HangugFries In many parts of Australia, we have to make sure the truck is full of fuel and we have a spare tyre to go "down the road" to grab sugar or eggs from the neighbours.
I drove it all the way from Fairbanks, Alaska to El Paso, Texas in 2016 with my son. Then continued on to Virginia less than 24 hours later to attend my youngest son's graduation from high school. It's not for the faint of heart to travel the Pan American highway through the upper part of Canada.
If the road is broken and unpassible in the middle then that is where the road ends. I wonder which half is longest. And i wonder who paid off Guinness Book of Records to say two roads that don't connect are one road.
@@ssilent8202 Yea, I don't think so. Every travel guide says not passable. You have to go around the Darien Gap, which is not in line with the highway. I quote "A notable interruption in the highway is the Darién Gap, a 100-mile (160-kilometer) stretch of undeveloped swampland and forest between Panama and Colombia. This gap has no road linking the two sections, making overland travel between Central and South America impossible." Unquote. I don't know where you got your information but it's wrong.
@@Kent-mb8gp hovercraft ig idk. But seriously why are people so upset about a “gap”? I love on a street that “gapped” by another street perpendicular to it. We have to turn onto the intersecting road, make a u-turn and turn back onto the other section across the intersecting road to continue. It’s still the same single road. Why are people upset about this genuinely?
@@ssilent8202 I don't know if people are upset. I think it's the definition of road people are hung up on, and on a hundred mile gap. Road - you have to drive on, if it's not a vehicle that you see on a road normally it doesn't count. 100 mile gap - I can see if a road is interrupted and you have to use connecting roads to bypass the interuption that makes sense, but a 100 mile untraversable gap with no immediate connecting roads to bypass the gap I can't consider it a continuous road, and it bothers me that the Guinness Book of Records is rewriting facts for an unknown reason. It may be the longest road idea but since it is not a finished road my thought is WTF.
@@ssilent8202its not passable your average Joe can't cross that road by themselves it requires experts in that region take you through the jungle or you will most likely die.
Tonight! James finds a silly hat [sombrero] Hammond gets stopped for human trafficking and I cross the Panama Canal with A CAR... *DUN DUN DUNN DUNN DAAAAAA... dunnn daaaaaaaa* ^[TopGear intro finishing]^
I hold the world record for the longest any human has gone without eating. It’s currently 647 days. I’ve had some snacks now and again but I don’t count those because that might spoil the story.
@@akioto1116 That doesn't make it a road. "There is no road, not even a primitive one, across the Darién." Try to find a single source that claims there's a road through the Darien, because there are plenty that specifically state that there isn't.
I remember when we went on a trip from start to end back in 1956. The jungle is where it gets complicated with all the insects and thieves. But the journey ended well so it only left great memories.
Worth noting that in the alaska portion, not all of it is paved or well maintained. So you’ll get wildly different road quality based on proximity to towns.
@@sal_strazzullo Nope we’ve had multiple bad experiences there. Not going back. I’m sorry if I offended your culture no hate to your people but it is statistically very unsafe there
@shingiaxiom6650 honestly the main areas where people live aren't much different than towns in the lower 48 but they are definitely smaller, besides anchorage. And summers are great. Stays around 60-70s most of the summer
