Yet again the weather caused a change of plans - only this time it allowed a tramp that had been cancelled many times in the past. Kev heading off by himself to the Arthurs Pass National Park to complete a 3 day loop tramp taking in the Carroll Hut and the Hunts Creek Hut.
Day one started with a short but sharp punchy climb from the Kelly Creek car Park to the Carroll Hut, an ascent of approximately 750 meters vertical climb.
Kev was treated to a fantastic day on day two with beautiful blue sunshine for the tramp across the Kelly Range tops. This involved following a poled route for the first half and then following a ridge line for the remainder of the time. A descent down towards the Hunts Saddle involved a bit of bush bashing and some poor direction choices from Kev (head for the northern of the two tarns - not directly between them like Kev did) before eventually meeting up with the Hunts Creek Hut track. After navigating through some head high tussocks this track eventually led to Hunts Creek Hut.
The final day encompassed a trek back over Hunts Saddle and the trail then followed the Kelly Creek back to the original starting point at the Kelly Creek car park.

Great stuff - cool to see the descent from Kelly tops is doable. Nice going!

Thanks, James. The descent is definitely doable. Just aim for the northern most tarn (the one on the right), not gor right between them like I did.

Really inspiring video Kev. Just wondering, how heavy is your pack roughly?

Great footage and scenery 👏 What do you use to film everything?

Thanks, Lakez. Most of this was shot on an Insta360 x2. The odd bit (mostly the close ups) were on a Samsung phone and the time-lapse from a Sony RX100.

Thanks Francis. Pack weight varies from about 11kg to 16kg. It depends a bit on how much water I'm carrying and if I've got a tent etc. Lots of people travel lighter, but I'm in the betterr safe than sorry group, so I always have a bit of extra gear.
