Boromir is one of the most well-developed and tragical (in the ancient Greek sense of the word) characters in the entire trilogy. However brave and strong and noble he is, he is not immune to the corruptive influence of the one ring, which makes him lapse. In the end, of course, he manages to atone for his mistake and fully restore himself in the eyes of his companions and of the spectators through his glorious death, which was a phenomenal act of camaraderie and selfnessness.
@SeizureGman
@SeizureGman 2 года назад
He didn't even want the ring for power he only desired it as he felt it could give him the ability to protect his kingdom the ring played on the fear of his kingdom. So even though he got corrupted the corruption wasn't for gain or selfish reasons and even Aragorn when he's with Frodo was almost tempted hence why he delayed for a few seconds before closing the ring over frodos hands. Even Sam the only one who willingly handed the ring over without been forced to almost was swayed.

The fact that Lurtz, who was the best uruk-hai fighter, and had enough balls to take aragorn 1 vs 1 in melee, decided to kill boromir from afar with arrows, after seeing him kill 50 of his uruks all by himself, gives an idea of how damn good Boromir was..

@jpchris96
@jpchris96 3 года назад
@@burstcity3832 You're overstating the difference in their abilities. You might argue that due to his older age Aragon is better trained, but it's worth remembering that he was also trained a vast array of different skills; archery, herbs and survival skills, stealth, the poetry and music of the elves - Boromir instead has been defending Gondor since he was old enough to weild a sword. In terms of pure swordsmanship Tolkien never states that Aragon is better - he even goes so far to suggest that Faramir, Boromir's younger brother, and the lesser swordsman of the two brothers, is more proficient than any swordsman in Rohan. Therefore, Boromir, who is better than Faramir, would be close to the best swordsman in the world of men. He also has blood of Numenor through both his parents (though more strongly through his mother's line). Basically, in a straight up sword fight, it would be a coin toss on who would win. Boromir is a great warrior and leader of men, and his skills are perfect for what he was - the Captain of Ecthelion. Aragon has a much wider array of skills - he is more worldly, more academic and better versed in the history of middle earth. He was raised to be a king - not a general.
@burstcity3832
@burstcity3832 3 года назад
@@jpchris96 I don't think so, there are many reasons why Aragorn was superior, I just didn't post them. Your post was a great read though. I always liked how Prince Imrahil came across from the Knights of Dol Amroth. He saved Eomer after emerging from the city during the battle ofthe Pelenor fields and was one of only three who were unhurt which is astonishing when you consider he was charging into the lines of the Orcs with lessthan 200 riders. I think the other two were Eomer and Aragorn but I can't rememeber, do you rememeber?

That part when the knife was thrown and Aragorn batted it away, was actually a misthrown accident by the Urukai actor. He threw it actually at him, instead of above his head, and a epic duck would have happened. So, Veggo instinctually used his sword. Best scene in this video for me after I learned about that.

@sterbin5348

That is a very good point, unfortunately the pace of GOT was too fast paced when previous seasons where very slow and methodical and had excellent characterization. However when season 7 and 8 arrived the pacing was just all over the place and the writing combined with this, ultimately doomed what could have been a FANTASTIC T.V. Drama series. I really do enjoy the GOT series 6 seasons of just pure and epic characters and story! I hope that when George RR Martin Finishes his book series that someone will bring the finale to film and do it justice, I am sure the books will be just fine when they arrive, he is obviously taking his time with the series and wants to nail it!

This is Sean Bean’s best scene in a very long career. The fight choreography is amazing. The fighters are gasping, stumbling, yelling. The heroes aren’t just knocking the orcs over in one blow to get a kill. Even the hobbits throwing rocks only causes one to get whiplash and another to stumble. Except for Legolas, everyone needs to knock away the shield or sword to get an opening to make the killing blow. The music is desperate, then sad.

Yes. Once it progressed to a swordfight Lurtz was doomed. And this is an exhausted Aragorn after killing many Orcs in battle and then running at a dead run just to get there. It makes perfect sense though, Aragorn is in his 80s, and has spent much of that time training in Sword combat. Though Lurtz is physically supierior he has not had much time to train. The choreographing of the final fight between Lurtz and Aragorn is so well done. Aragorn is in trouble when they are grappling since the orc is so strong, and he really only gets out of a bad situation by fighting dirty with the leg stab. But once Aragorn gets his sword back, they don't draw things out or make Lurtz seem like more of a challenge than he is, the moment he decides to have a straight sword fight Isildur's heir he's totally fucked.

In the books, it's debatable who is the best warrior between the two of them. Boromir is certainly on a par in terms of swordmanship, probably better. Aragorn's main strength in combat was his Numenorian blood, which gave him a greater constitution and incredible hardiness. @@MrPicklerwoof but, due to his numenorean blood, as you mentioned, and therebefore, as a Dunedain, he has the gift of a longer life. So, that could mean that he has more experience in combat, because he has trained more time and fought in more wars (don't forget he helped both Rohan and Gondor, plus travelling to many places in Arda). And, two more things: 1-since he was raised in Rivendell, the elves probably tought him something about sword fighting. 2-when old enough, he became a ranger (a ranger had probably a tougher and harsher life than a nobleman of Gondor) , the chieftain of the Dunedain and the leader of the Grey Company , who in the books are described as probably one of the best military groups of human warriors. Boromir, on the other hand, due to his life as captain of Gondor and veteran defender against orc hordes, is a well trained and experienced warrior. But, he has lived less than Aragorn. What a great fucking fight between Lurtz and Aragorn, feels physical, gritty, real while still having some slightly over the top elements like the shield and knife throws.

I love how Peter Jackson had Legolas look here.He seems confused, lost even, and sad and shocked.Because elves are immortal, and in his fathers realm and with his own elves he's probably never seen any allies die, never seen the light leave their eyes before.And so when he sees what's happening he's frozen, because this is something he can't imagine.Seeing the light of a ally, friend, companion, leave his eyes as he dies.And in that moment, he understands why so many elves chose to leave Middle earth to a place of undying life. ,

I always thought of it as Lurtz doing his final duty by trying to terrify his opponent before he went down. Without an arm and a sword, he knew he was done for by then. So he showed Aragon that he did not know pain, that he did not know fear... and that there's an army of Uruks just like him in his way.

What makes boromir so great is simple: He was a mere man, with a weakness to the one ring. Who was tempted by its power. But in the end, sacrificed everything to defend not the source of his obsession, but 2 mere hobbits.

One fact that makes me appreciate Aragorn a lot more is that after he was crowned King he made his house name Telcontar, which is Quenya for Strider..... Not out of sentimentality or any kind of royal tradition... He did it because Pippin wouldn't refer to him by any name except Strider

Boromir is what is missing in modern masculine movies: sacrificing himself to a painful slow death to rescue 2 people he barely knows from a different species to him, from a country he knows almost nothing about , to redeem himself of his sins. Anyone can fight for what they value, Anyone can be reckless Anyone can be arrogant Anyone can be idiotically sentimental, and most modern male heroes are, but to be so looking facts in the face selfless....that is true heroism.

Couldn't stop crying suddenly seeing my favorite characters dying left and right. Just really quick for some people in the comment section, the fact a few Uruks are struggling on the ground is pretty close to real. Battlefield wounds in a medieval battlefield were rarely instantly fatal, often people are crippled and no longer able to fight. Those that are able to move get away after the battle and may survive those that can’t die where they fell sometimes even days later as they succumb to their wounds.

@VengefulMaverick
@VengefulMaverick 3 года назад
Same with modern wars. You just dont kill over unless you get hit in the head, or heart/major artery.. just like back in the day. People are crawling, bawling, and fighting to stay alive wounded on the ground. Good references are trench warfare, no mans land, battle of stalingrad. There were people crawling back to their trenches barely alive after failed charges. Also if you ever saw enemy at the gates... where the Germans shoot into all the bodies after the Russian charge its 2 things. 1.) Make sure nobody is pretending 2.) A kindness to end their suffering (at this point the Russians were completely routed, and those men were dying).
