I remember seeing the first one on iMax the second time around. It was such an experience that I'll never forget. Me too. Watching them when I was around 13 years old. What a feeling. It's not like when I watch most films now that I don't care too much. That back then was like ... the war we had to win! Frodo had to achieve it or I would end up devastated after sucha a journey and having believed un the magic of that world on screen. I lived them intensely, and in a more spoiler free world without social media, which helped too.

Too much CGI
@femoman
@femoman 3 года назад
Because LOTR was a trailblazer: So much in it had never been done before, like huge epic fantasy (until then fantasy films were seen as box office poison), massive scale battles, tonnes of CGI and practical effects, motion captured characters, etc. It set the bar for high fantasy films that came after and big epic CG-heavy fantasy films became the norm, so by the time the Hobbit trilogy came around, it didn't have the same impact. Among all the other big epic sprawling fantasy films, it wasn't a trailblazer or a standout, it was just... another fantasy film.

Dimitri Rodriguez Are we talking Game of thrones the TV Show or A song of ice and fire the book franchise. Although a song of Ice and fire is incredibly in depth and full of content, I would not call it better than lord of the rings. Far from it actually. For one, Lord of the rings never in my opinion dragged on it's plot, it covered it's points and moved on. ASOIAF however dragged on and on without much going on. Danaerys chapters were a prime example, or Sansa chapters. Secondly every character had an important role to play that drove the story and never felt like they were forced in Lord of the rings, even merry and pippin who are such secondary characters in the first book play a huge role in the next two books, but in ASOIAF, Danaerys is still in Mereen for two whole books and hardly accomplishes anything. Sansa and Catalyn were terribly written characters who only further the stereotype that women characters in fiction are helpless and complete fuckups. Sansa gets abused by Joffrey for two books, then when we think she's actually going to stand up for herself or actually do something, she's instead captured by Little finger, and manipulated and in the show she is also captured by Ramsey and raped and abused. Lord also doesn't have what ASOIAF has in an abundance and that is killing off major characters. Now I know this builds the main theme of the story that no character is safe from death, Ned, Robb Stark, and even Jon Snow, thought to be the main hero and it's what draws fans in to this story, because it is a bold approach that no author has dared to try, however it at the same time, is one of the series biggest problems. Yes it was an exciting surprise in the first book when ned dies, no one expected it, but when an Author uses it too much, it can be very off putting for the reader. After the third or fourth of your favorite character dies, like Ned or Robb or Jon, who do you have left to root for? Danaerys? Sansa? At the end of the story, whether they admit it or not, the reader wants the Heroes to win, they want a satisfying ending, something I fear GRRM won't deliver. I fear he will write himself in a corner and try for a weak cop out like Bran greenseeing back in time and warning everyone of the war. And lastly I come to my final reason why Lord is far superior to Gane of thrones or a song of Ice and fire. It has an ending. I have read all of the game of thrones books and seen all the episodes only quite recently. Now the first book A Game of Thrones was released in 1996, the next two books a Clash of kings (1998) and a Storm of Swords (2000) were published combined 4 years later. Now that's not bad considering the length and depth of content for these books, so I actually commend Martin for the length of time. The next book a Feat for Crows (2005) took Martin 5 years to publish, but again with the depth of content and the length, it's hard to get angry about this to the Author. However, this is where the rest goes down hill. The last book so far took Martin 6 years to publish, a Dance with Dragons (2011). That amount of time actually upset fans because they felt Martin was busy with his other publications and not devoting his time on the series which is true. He wrote a comic book for Marvel and published other short stories on the side related and not related to the series and the production of Game of the the TV series began in 2010 which Martin was heavily invested in. Finally A dance with dragons was published and fans were thrilled with the release. Although it did little to move the Mereen Dany plot forward, it did however move the north plot forward with Jon snow and the nights watch as well as Stannis with the looming battle for Winterfell. However still left fans wanting more. Now it is 2017, and the next book scheduled the Winds of Winter doesn't have a release date, and Martin claims is only a third the way done. Over ten years of this series publication's history and there seems to be no end in sight. With the Author pushing 69 years of age, and the series is still scheduled for two more books before the conclusion. The winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring. How long do you think the Author will want to write an extensive fantasy novel packed full of content and length while progressing into his 70s. The last book alone A dance of Dragons contained over a thousand pages. The Winds of Winter Martin has boasted will be even longer and the worst part of it all, Martin has gone on record stating if he were to die before the completion of his series, he will refuse any other author from completing the story saying it is his creation and it should die with him. Back to Lord of the Rings. The author JR Tolken wrote and left extensive letters and notes to his wife and son and publisher to make absolutely sure his work would be published after he died which is what happened such as the simmilarion and the unfinished tales. The combined publication of the Lord of the rings was two years. Lord of the rings is better.

There´s not even a need for me to say it but: LOTR films > The Hobbit films I´d give the LOTR trilogy a 10/10, they are art! I´d give The Hobbit trilogy an 8/10, maybe even a bit less. Whilst good and entertaining enough for me tolike it, they don´t have the depth LOTR has, and the completely over the top fighting scenes were something very unusual in LOTR (which didn´t need them) and for me they kill the mood a bit. The last main fight in Desolation of Smaug is in my opinion, just ridiculous and unrealistic by all means.

You can’t definitly compare Hobbit and LOTR becouse Hobbit is only one book (harder to do a trilogy).

Seriously the best trailer for any movie(s) I've ever seen. It is sad that all the books are movies now but I do not wish that there would be any more movies. I feel like it would only be for money or fame. I believe it was Tolkien's son that said he didn't like the movies because he felt that they were just made for young men to go and watch other men get killed and sword fight. I loved the movies but now that I'm reading the books, I find that the books have a much more developed plot and depth to the story than is portrayed in the movies.

Not to mention that Frodo is a much better character in the books.

His problems weren't with the movies per se. Christopher Tolkien is a purist. He hated the way characters were changed in the movies and how many layered characters in the books became cardboard cutouts in the movies. Also considering how much money the movies made, the Tolkien estate got almost nothing. I think they had to resort to fighting a court case to get their dues.Needless to say, as long as the books are not in the public domain, I doubt we will get any more movies.

Thomas de Prez Won't happen probably. Tolkiens son won't sell the rights to make a movie/series out of Silmarillion. Won't happen sadly.

I loved the twelve hour New Zealand tourism video. But seriously, i really cherish this film trilogy. Though I'm used to seeing Sean Bean die by now.

I know I am a bit late in becoming a LOTR fan. I have a few questions if any of you would be kind enough to answer. Question number 1) How many types of " races " happen to be in this trilogy? 2) Who are/is Valar? 3) I know the lluvatar is like God, so why won't he kill Sauron to end all this? 4) Who created Sauron in the first place? 5) Why didn't Sauron turn the 3 Elven Rings " evil " ? 6) Are all the movies the same plot? Are they all 1 adventure cut into three pieces? My last question: Can anyone write a list of every important character and define them? Who they are or what they are supposed to do? This would be massive help to me, I started yesterday evening (12 hours ago), so I am missing some crucial answers. Thank you

1)There are hobbits, elves, men, drwaves, orcs, uruk-hais, trolls, goblins, ents, dragons, half-elves, maiars and valars. 2)The Valar are creatures with angelic powers. Most of them control the elements of Middle Earth 3)Iluvatar couldn't kill Sauron, because sauron's power had grown so much, that it would be almost imposible to kill him. 4)Sauron was a Maiar, a powerful spirit. He was created by Iluvatar, and then he was corrupted by Melkor (the most powerful Valar). 5)Sauron tried to turn the elven rings evil, but the elves realized about this, and decided to put them away. 6)All the movies have the same plot, but each of them concentrates on different aspects. The first one on the Shire and the fellowship. The second one on Rohan and Isengard. The third one on Gondor and Mordor.

Here'sJohnny It's not that He COULDN'T kill him, since Eru Iluvatar can do anything He wants, up to and including just making the whole world vanish by thinking about it, but that He invented this thing called "free will". And in a way, Iluvatar DID bring about the end of Sauron, through His servant Olorin and all the free peoples of Arda. The Valar could, technically, have taken out Sauron (after all, Sauron is merely a shadow compared to his mentor, Melkor Morgoth), but after the fall of Beleriand in the wake of the War of Wrath, they decided direct interference would cause too much destruction. Also, the elven-rings were not evil because they were crafted by the Elves of Eregion, not Sauron, and Sauron's hand never sullied them. After Celebrimbor realized that Sauron had betrayed him, he made sure the Maia would never find them. However, since their power is linked to the One Ring, much of what they made was lost in its unmaking, and the elves left Middle-Earth.
