Hi, great work man, I just wanted to tell you that Emperor of mankind looks just like singer Peter Steele when he was younger. The simularity is frightening.
Lorewise, this would be quite a stretch, since you don't give a piece of advanced and expensive equipment such as a powerfist to an ogryn. Then again, our boy here does habe the brain chip...
@@crazymachinima1 well they are durable so that keeps the ogryn from somehow breaking it and I believe the activation is pretty simple you clench a fist a certain way and saying make fist like this makes giant fist be extra scary to heretics would work just fine
I'm convinced the emperor is real and rolled out Warhammer some predictive programming getting us ready to throw our bodies at legions of xenos for the emperor.
06:50 Regarding the mercury "quick silver" filling for the Catachan Devil Claw Sword, the substitution of mercury for steel isn't to make it _lighter,_ on the contrary, filling it with mercury makes it HEAVIER. The primary base of steel is iron, weighing in at almost 56 AMUs (Atomic Mass Units) whereas mercury weighs almost 201 AMUs given greater density (its nucleus has a whopping 80 protons and 120 neutrons to iron's 26 protons and 30 neutrons). This, while making the Devil Claw slower to attack, would give its hacking strikes MUCH greater impact.
14:43 I really hope they add a chain Scythes as well. I'm a huge Nurgle fan (and by proxy the Death Guard) and I've fallen in love with the chain Scythe due to the Death guards continually use of them.
Would be nice but kinda lore breaking. Only astartes, inquisitors or high ranking astra militarum officers would have access to them. I mean, your playing a bunch of convicts. Having force/power weapons is already stretching it. Im not totally against it but they would gave to be ultra rare weapons. Something i bet would be cash shop excusive. I think those kind of weapons are better left for the astartes or other elite forces.
@@desperado3236 Weapons being cash shop exclusive? Definitely not. Unique weapon skins In the cash shop? definitely yes. Would be cool If they added a new rarity (like reds I V2) that are "unique", like the ones above that would be heretical for a lowly convict to use.
@@albinorunt Well, thats more of a hope then anything. I'm all for cosmetics being monetised. My fear was that actual weapons would be too. So far this hasnt come to pass and im happy im wrong here. For now at least.
Earlier actually, as several examples were used in the American Civil War as improvised weapons during the trench warfare along the southern border. Not standard issue of course, but interesting nonetheless.
@@weshammer From playing a lot, I do indeed think we need more guns that are specialized in dealing with the big boys, so a grav cannon would fit nicely into the niche of bolters and such.
A long-las would also be cool, a dedicated laz sniper rifle, maybe give it a special attack that uses a hot-shot charge pack for a super penetrating single shot.
Eisenhorn was my first exposure to the "bladeless" powersword and I remember guffawing when I read the description; it's a farging grimdark lightsaber, sometimes with skull and aquila decor. I hope that I will eventually see some pattern of it in Darktide.
When a universe creates the will to hack and slash your glorious way instead of sitting in the safer distance to shoot... then you reached Warhammer 40K - where the 40 stands for the 40 inches of battle distance.
I know people use the entrenching shovel as a meme when it comes to the death korp but it has historically been used as a weapon. Not only due to the edges (which would blunt quickly) but due to its weight as its like an axe combined with a mace. In a pinch, its actually a decent weapon.
I can just imagine the sheer terror of newcomers brough in by darktide when they see the video and slowly figure out there are multiple stories, factions and major battles that put tertium's crisis as nothing but inconsequential to whatever fresh hell is and was out there.
Wes I just wanted to say thank you because you got me into Warhammer and this Christmas I’m going to start painting my first group but not my last because this is so fun and I love the lord the game and the fact that it’s not just a video game or a table top game it’s a bunch of things. So I wanted to say thank you for showing me this dark but detailed universe. Happy holidays
I don't know if there's much precedence for non-power claws, but I want to see a zealot go wolverine on some heretics. Personally as an ogryn main, I'd love to see a giant sword or machete, and a new shield variant. I love the slab shield, but it feels like they could do more things in that template.
I don't think anything like this exists in lore, but what if the Ogryn had a thunder shield that released a shockwave when it was struck, knocking your assailant and any other nearby heretics off their feet?
Fun fact,it's not the length that detemines if it's a sword or a knife. It's the design So there have historically been very long knives the size of swords used in combat!
Fun fact about shovels: They have been issues regularly to various countries' armies since the World Wars. The two most famous being the Russian Special Forces/ Spetsnaz shovels that generally have wood handles and arent foldable and the US models that because especially noteworthy during the war in Vietnam that ARE foldable and can also be used as picks, hoes, and even stools if you know what youre doing.
In the American military, the US Army at least, while I was in, we got issued E-Tools (Entrenching Tools) that are foldable shovels. They have a reinforced body, and the locking mechanism is durable as hell too. The edges even have proper bevelling as well. My unit used to set aside time when taking care of gear to sharpen bayonets and E-Tools if we wished to.
I‘m currently in the german army and we get the same thing; Klappspaten (folding shovel). though I don‘t think you‘re allowed to sharpen the edges… then again, I haven‘t tried it yet
my grandfather gave me his old E-tool, I don't know if they changed the design but on that one you have to tighten it, and I never found it very reliable
@@phantimon6175 is it a two section fold or three section fold? Have you recently sharpened or smoothed the edge of the blade? Does the locking nut still hold it tight or does that need to be replaced? Like all tools, it requires a degree of maintaining that can be difficult or hard to see.
@@ericnox2069 3 section fold, I never gave much thought to maintenance, and I wouldn't know what a locking nut should feel like but maybe it does need to be replaced
Most likely explanation is that since they're conscripted into the Inquisition, they can have access to anything the Inquisitor and their agents deem them competent enough to use effectively.
You do have to suspend your disbelief for certain parts of this game since it is still ultimately a game and an FPS sorta-looter shooter at that. Why are Psykers walking around without their guards/executioners? Your question but with the thunder hammer? Why are the Orgryns not smashing all the small enemies to pieces with one hit? Are we really supposed to believe that the inquisition would send a single group of 4 to wipe out a few thousand enemies while also trying to complete important tasks? Etc...etc...
Antax's records disappearing might be an out by the mechanicus, allowing them to reverse engineer the Orks' weapons and claim they're STCs. I mean, that the axe's long blade compared to the others looks suspiciously similar to a choppa. The Orks on the other hand don't use axe-style choppas with short, utilitarian blades.
@@SiegeTF It being heretical is not the problem. Ork tech only works because the Orks believe it works. Ork tech in the hands of other races is just junk.
@@SiegeTF It's not just that. Ork technology doesn't work for anyone but orks. Their mek boys get about 80% percent of the way to making functioning technology, but bridging that gap and getting their weapons to actually work requires the gestalt reality warping field orks naturally generate. Their technology is functionally useless to anyone but them.
I dont knw why but theres something alluring about the chainswords for me. The sound it makes when it comes into contact with enemy flesh is not only gruesome but pretty badass when you realise it legit struck fear into the enemies morale.
Technically, its not the weapons length that matters so much but rather the size of the area used to strike. The higher the mass of that area and the faster you can swing, the more force it imparts. Its a balancing act as if you make something too heavy, it effects its speed and vice versa. Length can help but only to a point. You want a handle of decent length due to leverage it gives you to strike but longer is not always better. This applies to pretty much all melee weapons.
I love swords, but none more so than Forearm swords. The amount of control you get with that thing being on your arm is amazing. Double edged variants can cleave with relative ease. I'd looooove to see a forearm sword for the Zealot and/or Veteran. Even the ogryn should get something like that, seeing as they have an arm cannon of a similar nature.
DUAL POWER FISTS! Claws would also be cool. Anything to get into hand to hand range and fill out a terrifying berserker flavor. Also it would be interesting to see the Tanith Daggers added to the game and I wonder if they would take the time to animate different stabbing and slashing motions as the other weapons tend to be larger in size by comparison. If they add hyper specific legendary loot, you could also get into the crazy end game of Sly’s Catachan blade or Gaunt’s power sword. Because the strike team is under the supervision of the inquisition, unfortunately I don’t think we could see Xenos weapons.
I'm a Zealot main. I mainly use the tac axe the most with crit bleed build because I hit the lottery on a tac axe. Great video I love your content. It would be really cool if you did a deep dive into the preacher lore. 💯
I’d really love to see the ability to dual wield a ranged weapon and melee weapon, there are so many one handed weapons that it seems like a great opportunity for even more customization and experimentation. On the flip side I would love to see more two handed weapons, the eviscerator has by far been my favorite melee weapon. Also I’m sure you’ll make a ranged weapon video but is there any lore related reason the bolsters were given to guardsmen and zealots as opposed to ogryn? I was always under the impression they required a large amount of strength to wield. Love the videos wes!!!
I love Force Swords, I really hope we get to either make our own, creating a unique cosmetic, or have a subclass that is focused on Force Sword as it's main tool. Perhaps the F could give every melee within a certain range force properties for a set period, bypassing most defense??? Either way, I love the game, great video!
Power first, maybe on the variant guardsman that's coming out. It would give a guardsman roughly equal strength of an ogryns in melee, and the power attack could give the concussive force of the power maul.
Depending on the culuture of orgin the word for knife refers more to a single-edged bladed weapon. The size is less important. German is a good example as you have kriegsmesser or "war knife", which was held two-handed and has a blade length over a meter.
I just got my first Warhammer novel, Ahriman the omnibus, and he took a sword from another thousand sons, now I know it's a force weapon, thx (Oh ya, thx for helping me get into Warhammer)
congratulations on reaching 501k subs, WesHammer. you've earned every one of them. non-Warhammer 40k related question for you: what do you think of Star Wars' 501st Legion?
I want a nemesis force sword for my psyker. We're proximal to the Grey Knights given that we're working for the inquisition, its unlikely as hell in lore to have ever happened but it'd be sick to have a force sword that does some other stuff
The maulers in Darktide have this two-handed great chainaxe. Being an Eviscerator Enjoyer myself I would love to be able to wield that two-handed chainaxe myself
i love the scythe from darksiders 2. So a Chain one would be messy awesome to see. Can a Null (someone who cancels out psychic energy) get a conduit or catalyst weapon to further the effect ?
How nice of them to reach out and sponsor a game that half of us who were promised to get to play it still have no eta in sight. Honestly, fuck fatshark. No shade on you Wes, you're awesome. Just feel like fatshark have pulled a modern gaming moment hard af
best chain weapon are still the ones with counterspinning chains it makes it like a thousand mini jaws of life, making it better vs armor along with both needing less and having easier and most importantly cheaper maintenance to replace teeth then you would with an equally effective monomolecular chain
Did they ever explain why the little lore section in the weapon inspections scree from the beta was removed? That was such a simple but extremely immersive part of the weapon screen that I loved during the early play testing.
I'm new to the 40k universe but I've played the hell out of darktide as an ogryn and I would absolutely love to see a giant hammer or axe in these big hands
Can you do a video on the relationship between the chaos gods and what their personal thoughts or perspectives are on the different chaos legions. I think that would be a very cool vid to make
Hey man! RU-vid has been recommending you lately especially for short videos, and i have to say I truly enjoy your format and way of presenting things. Keep doing awesome work!
I know it will almost definitely never happen but I would love an option for a AdMech techpriest character and the omnissian power axes they use or something of the sort
Maybe a faulty Skitaari who's control implant failed. Since they can't be controlled remotely, the Admech don't see any use for them, so they were pawned off to this inquisitor to get them out of their hair. Despite this, they're still loyal to the Admech and can requisition advanced weaponry from them.
This has become my favorite RU-vid channel. Thank you so much for all of this Warhammer 40k content. I was always perplexed of where to begin in this franchise, and your videos have made it very easily accessible and I cannot wait to startup on all things Warhammer 40k. :)
Hollowing out a blade and filling it with mercury would made it increasingly heavy, since mercury is denser than tungsten. I'm sure it's just old lore being derpy, but I think it's funny the writer didn't bother looking up the density of the element.
think the idea is that the weight is close to your hand, where things are not lighter but easier to hold until you swing and the centrifugal force puts the weight at the tip would ruin it as a stabbing weapon tho weird people have tried making chainswords but never one of those to try it out
The THUNDER HAMMER is a weapon so powerful that it can only be used by genetically-enhanced super soldiers wearing Tactical Dreadnought Armour and protected by a Storm Shield, anything less than that will be killed by the discharge of their own weapon when the hammer strikes ***NEXT EDITION*** Here's some geriatric human in his dressing gown using one...
Nice vid but a small correction that needs to be made: it is not the Space Wolves, who are most often associated with the chain axe on the imperial side. Nor do the space wolves craft a lot of chainaxes - the picture you show is from the front of the Space Wolves codex and a bit misleading. What the Space Wolves most often do is to create so three types of axes - Frost Axes (special power axe), Rune Axes (special axe used by Rune priests) and Fenrisian battle axes ("normal" axes for the use by Sky Warriors)- none of which use chain-technology (See/Compare: Space Wolves, 7ed codex pp.96; et. al.) . What you are thinking of are the Frostblades, which are blades studded with Kraken-teeth and sometimes utilising chain-technology. These things are very popular with the Space Wolves and their few (primaris) successor-chapters. It is rather the Blood Angels and their successor chapters, which are well known for their use of chain-axes in their death-companies (which the normal citizen is not supposed to know about.). Those affected by the Black Rage (i.e. the Death-Company members) are transported back in time (in their minds) to the final hours of the Horus Heresy - a far more brutal time (or at least percieved as being that), when Chain Axes were not tainted by the stigma of the World Eaters. Plus the Death Company want to rip and tear anyways - so it is the perfect weapon for them.
They'll probably never add a playable battle servitor to the game, but if they did, I'd be 1000% down to play an Arco Flagellant, pop my special ability (presumably some kind of "overclock" damage/attack speed boost or temporary invulnerability energy shield bubble) and use their barbed energy whips to lay down a massive combo and go absolutely sicko mode on a horde of poxwalkers. That would be peak gaming for me tbh.
All hail the mighty shovel. With the shovel you can disable a warlord titan. How you ask? Just give the pricep a good smack. Shouldn’t be to hard to draw them out when they have no support left an an angry kreigsman below their legs yelling: nimm die Schaufel und kämpfe wie ein Mann! Greetings Kendoka2
New melee weapon I want? Well, by the Emperor I have a mighty need to deliver a FISTING TO THESE HERETICS! Love to see a power fist added. Punch someone and they just turn into a cloud of blood. Good times.
I hope we get massive DLC with new models or at least reskins of Full on Astartes combat and such, modders could probably do it. Games okay, not incredible, vermtide was better in my opinion. But my only true gripe and it's just an opinion is feeling less powerful and somehow overpowered then we should be. Not a balance thing more a game design thing. We should absolutely not be able too take a chaos Ogre on for example. Those things can rip a dozen space marines fully kitted limb from limb. Not without some plot devices. And god forbid they add some other horrors.
May they pls stop putting that mutch money and energy on advertising and give me just the FCKN game for console so I can play! Man I bought the next gen ONLY for Darktide 😓 Edit: just communicating a little from fatshark would be great
Although I doubt that anyone, even someone ordained by the Inquisition, would ever be allowed to use xenos weapons, I would admittedly like to see a jury-rigged Necron Gauss Blaster/Gauss Flayer in Darktide. I can imagine it now; a whole horde showing up with hounds in tow only for someone to pull out a piece of Necron tech and vaporize everyone in seconds with a sickly green glow of piercing light. For balance issues alone I imagine they wouldn't add that in.
I play the Grey Knights on the table-top, so seeing force swords basically made me jizz in my pants. Would love to see a force halberd, but considering they are exclusive to the Grey Knights who essentially no one knows exists, we are probably unlikely to see them. Sadge. Will just use Force Swords instead.
I want to like this game but i think it still needs some more work. Its kinda buggy and suffers performance issues. Its basically left4dead or vermintide in 40k. Im also iffy about the rather dodgy microtrans they rolled out before the game was fully finished. Basically unless you love 40k and ranged combat, id stick to vermintide. Its basically this game except fantasy warhammer with better melee combat. Only hardcore 40k fans should really be playing this in its current state. Its slowly gotten better with each patch but the crashes and performance issues are still there and you need high end pc to get the most of it. Also be prepared to grind. Alot.
Sigh. The amount of saturation of Darktide is getting a little old. Nothing against you Wes, I get that it's a sponsorship for you, get that money. But I've been hearing SO MUCH about Darktide I feel like I've been playing the game for months myself.
I think they would feel a bit out of place, but I think xeno weapons should be in Darktide. If the teams' missions are sanctioned by the Imperium, logically they could theoretically provide certain xeno-weapons without it being considered a punishable offense.
Gonna be honest, they should probably spend more money on making Darktide a playable game without a crash every 3-4 missions instead of on advertising. I was stupid excited for it, but like most these days the game wasn’t ready to be released, and still isn’t, lmao, hell 1/4 of the time you can’t kill what you’re targeting because the first swing sends it into space.
