The thing that really improved the action in era two is the absence of mistborn and the presence of twinborn. Because they’re both mistborn vin and Kelsior’s action scenes felt very similar, and we didn’t really see a lot of other characters in action scenes. But in era 2 every single character had a unique fighting style cause of all the possible combonations that could be present
I’m so hyped for The Lost Metal. Mistborn is my favorite series outside of Lord of The Rings. Blink twice if Kelsier makes an appearance 😀. Thank you for your channel, Elliot!
This is the first video of yours I've watched and during the intro I realised that you are really close to my mental image I had of Jasnah Kholin during my first WoK/WoR reads! In both appearance and your analytical approach. Though that mental image of Jasnah definitely changed after a couple more books were published ha Anyway, great review, I'm going to watch some more of your stuff :)
I think this book had some of my favorite Sanderson action scenes! I will say I think all the emotional beats hit for me and the cosmere stuff was so exciting!
100% agree with that big hit moment of “I do know what it is like”. So well done. I am one who loves the campiness of this series and the fact that it can just be fun while also doing amazing character worked and high stakes. Loved this one start to finish but I agree bitter sweet knowing it is the end.
Just finished reading The Lost Metal and I had to come back here to say that the scene you described to be your favourite absolutely floored me. Such a simple, short couple of paragraphs and I was actually bawling my eyes out. It really reminded me of the "I am human" thing from The Hero of Ages.
The biggest thing about this book is in the cosmere takes front and center and is no longer a background thread with a wink here and a nudge there. He said at the launch that the cosmere was going to play a bigger role in this book and he was not lying.
I'm so glad you loved this book and thought the pacing was great! I did too! It was an absolute ball. I thought it was fun, clever, intense, exciting, and emotional! The Easter eggs were so awesome as well! I really think he did a FANTASTIC job.
I thought your analysis and recap was excellent for a non spoiler review. By this I mean it was very nuanced but you never once spoiled anything. Without spoiling anything, do you think Brandon improved as a writer from some of his more recent novels (both Cosmere and non). I know that you have read most, if not all of his books. If he has improved, in what areas? p.s. Will you provide a spoiler review in the next couple of weeks?
Will I even catch any of the Easter eggs? I’ve read several Sanderson books, but years apart that I don’t know if I recall everything well enough anymore.
So I haven’t read the mess born series in years what do I need to reread so that I know what’s going on in this book? I mean if I have to read all six books I will but I preferred to just have to read either the first era or the second here by themselves so I can hurry and jump into this book as quick as possible

Do you need to read white sand before the Lost metal? I've read everything else in the cosmere except white sand which I can't get my hands on right now ( in cue at the library) but I would really like to dive into the Lost metal asap. Thanks for any answers!
I am someone who uses humor to cope but the big thing that happens at the ending of this book made me absolutely SOB. I have not cried this hard over a book in some time lol

Nah I'd say you kinda have to read a lot of Cosmere to get the full picture here. The Lost Metal straight up unceremoniously spoils a major reveal from RoW involving a certain organization.
Personally I didn't love it. The strongest bit to me was the Cosmere connections, I 100% loved every moment of that stuff and look forward to really dissecting all of the Cosmere lore and information from this one. But as a standalone novel I felt this one had a few glaring issues that prevent it from being great. Most importantly, the plot heavily relies on a particular character making a lot of mistakes that this character should not make. There are aspects of the book I like and at the end of the day, even a lower tier Sanderson novel is still better than most authors can do, so it's not like I didn't enjoy it, but it's my least favorite of the era 2 novels and in the whole Cosmere only Elantris and The Well Of Ascension are lower than it for me.
I’ve got mine on preorder. I’m in the middle of a book atm but hope to re read mistborn 2nd era 1-3 before it arrives. 3.5 books in under a week. Can I do it? Well I’ll give it a go 😂
I decided to do this and I’m almost halfway through with the final one after starting the series on Monday and working full time. This era reads so much faster than the first one (like not in a bad way just in a it’s a lot more action/less dialogue)
@@rachellemanning6631 well I may have done something stupid. I decided to start on era 1. And they aren’t quick. I doubt I’ll finish before Tuesday now. I’m half way through era 1. But I’ve got all weekend to just marathon it. And as you said era 2 will be super quick. It’s 4am here and I’m still going. Good luck with your mission!
Glad to hear that Sanderson balanced character arcs in this book. This is something he's struggling with, esp in Rhythm of War where he butchered Dalinar
