Join me in this series, as we explore the disused and lost Queensbury Lines. In this video, we are leaving behind Denholme Station, and heading towards the disused Wilsden Station. We try and get inside all the tunnels on the route and also some inverted bridges. This video also features ‪@pwhitewick‬ .

That fade with the map and the drone shot at 8:26 was great. I'm still amazed by the craftsmanship of all the stone bridges throughout the UK, great work. Thanks to Darren for another fine watch.....

I am from Wilsden and the village is about 1.5miles away. I had friends who lived in one of the station cottages and their cousins next door. They remember the lines been ripped up in the mid 1960s and I used to go on the viaduct before it was public. Was up the two weeks ago but didn’t know you could get under that bridge. There are quite a few photos of the station on the village memories facebook page but not many if any of goods yard. Look forward to next bits as I have walked to Cullingworth and under and by the railway but get a bit lost on way down to Ingrow East.

I lived in the railway cottages when I was a lad. My playground, hitched rides on the trains that were still running but taking up the track. Had one of the hand driven carts at one point. I rode the last train over the viaduct and got myself in the t&a. Great place to grow up

Can't wait to see part 6. I live in East Kilbride which has a line to Glasgow central. But the line used to run beyond EK and I have followed it as much as I can. There is evidence of the line although much of the route to Blantyre has being built on. Thanks to online OS maps you can follow the majority of it. It was good to see the Whitewicks in the video. Overdue subscription done

I missed seeing this video Darren. Anyhow myself and Mrs watched it and really enjoyed it. Again, astonishing to watch and realise that there was ever a railway here, before. The remains of what were the stations were great to discover, but a pity about the blocking up of the tunnel. Great to see the before and after comparisons, the drone coverage and the photos, being superb. Many thanks.

It’s high time Sustrans linked the two sections of the GNR trail and opened up the tunnels between Thornton and Harecroft. It would be fantastic to cycle that far on the old Queensbury lines.

Can you imagine how many people would use this route to cycle reduce car travel, would be amazing to see all these tunnels open, just like the monsul trail, but mps ain’t interested in this they just purport to be interested in climate change

The work was started on the Great Northern Trail when my children were tiny, the first section in Cullingworth (using the fabulous viaduct) was opened in time for my daughter to use it to cycle to primary school. That was getting on for 20 years ago! The Queensbury to Thornton end was opened a while later. The bit in the middle will never get done, the attention has shifted to a different project at the Queensbury tunnel. Such a shame as a trail of that length would be a great asset to the area. It’s well used as it is but there’s potential for so much more.

Fascinating video. Great use of the overlay/fades showing the past locations of the GNR infrastructure. I walked up in the reverse direction from Cullingworth Viaduct and then onto Hewenden Viaduct. Your video has filled in the whereabouts of Wilsden station for me.

Just watched the Denholme episode. I worked at C R Taylor's [Timber] who owned the old station site. I was there from the late 1990's until the 'crash' of 2008. The old goods shed was part of the saw mill and still intact until after the firm closed and it was destroyed by fire. The steps down to the yard and offices used the old entrance to where a footbridge connected to the platforms. Both tunnel entrances at either end of the yard were still accessible, although the one at the Keighley end was very boggy.

Really Great video, great memories for me. I recall looking down onto the track at Harecroft (Wilsden) Station with a tank engine and coaches stopped at the platform. Would have been very small and it was hard work scrabbling up the hillside from the beck by the viaduct. Your shots from the bridge pretty well reflect the memory. There is also another great bridge back towards Denholm from there.

Just found this video, and watched the others in the series. A pal and I walked the entire Queensbury route (with the exception of Queensbury tunnel) back in the 80s - at that time, pretty much all the tunnels (including Well Heads and the Doe Park trio) were accessible. Sad to see they're now so overgrown and inaccessible. Great videos though 🙂

I've been in Buntons yard a few times, I never knew it had original railway buildings on it. Again all these hidden bridges and structures just left and hidden by nature. Such a shame
