The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

I used to love sitting around the campfire playing this number and "Do You Believe in Magic?" Years later, me and a couple old band mates got together and did "Darlin Be Home Soon" in what would turn out to be our final live performance (I moved away and put the guitar down. Not sure why, but it was 10 years ago and I haven't picked it up since so I'm calling it our last hurrah). John Sebastian is one of the best song writers from the 60s who never seems to get mentioned. To be honest, I'm guilty of forgetting him myself from time-to-time. So, let me take this opportunity to compliment the man by simply saying your stuff is really fun to play dude. Still waiting for my heart to get stolen by some mousy little girl though. 😉

@@mjm0tube Yeah, I guess you are correct. Sebastian was thumb-picking the bass line on his guitar in this clip. That requires a lot of talent! I am wondering if on the original recording, was the bass line thumb-picked on guitar by Sebastian, or was it played on electrical bass by the bass player? "..and fall on my face in somebody's new mowed lawn" Hmm why does this remind me of walking home from some of our high school party's back then.

Great band. I gig this solo (in A), always goes down very well inspite of my playing. Also do Rain on the Roof and Summer in the City. Very underrated outfit.

This was one of my songs to sing back in the band days of the 60s. A is now a better key for me too. I was a better whistler & blues harp player back then. Our lead guitar could never quite get what Zally was doing, so he faked it.

I always flash-back to this song. My mom would drive me to my new school while the morning DJ played this on AM radio. Took years to stop hating John Sebastian.

Just a couple of months later and this group would soon collapse and then break up two years later. Sad as these guys could’ve gone further together.

Was watching The Peripheral on Prime Video and this song came on, had to see what the guy singing it looked like.

Great band! Always wondered why they didn’t have a bass player

@@tommyblevins7953-Steve Boone was their bass player-he just happens to be playing upright piano here. You might be getting confused with the Young Rascals… another legendary New York area band! 🎶✌️
