Agreed! In LM3 they really stretched the mansion concept to cover all sorts of themed floors (which was great) but it makes me feel like instead of doing LM4 they should do something new a la “Luigi Land” or “Luigi’s Castle”. Basically they should continue the same series in a refreshed setting! There’s a lot of potential for spooky stuff.

It baffles me how much money they make, while ALWAYS in some way crippling all products they put out. On top of that, they refuse to do so many 'duh' things (like a netflix like legacy content service).

In a world where Indie developers have been singlehandedly holding up the Metroidvania genre for years and you can get amazing Metroidvanias for $20- $30 bucks; I don't know if a $60 2D Metriod will be able to shine as bright as it should. We will see though, hope enough people are curious enough to hop into one Nintendo's best franchises.

I'd be down for it but maybe they could do it like the Sonic Mania cartoon, where the characters don't talk and yet it's still entertaining. That way you don't run into the awkward problem of having these characters consistently speaking. Maybe they could make little Luigi's Mansion shorts or something.

How is this inevitable? Luigi's mansion isn't the monolith that Mario is as a whole, and we still managed to see a Mario amusement park before a proper movie. I'd say it's highly unlikely.

A lot of people feel that giving a game more story means complex character development and lots of world building. Honestly I just wanna see Luigi and Mario being bros getting into shenanigans.

The theme park is an S-tier idea

I think it'd finally be a cool way to incorporate Daisy into a Luigi game since they're always shown to have some sort of connection. Imagine King Boo and Hellen Gravely take over Daisy's castle in Sarsasaland and Luigi has to save her, and the castle becomes this huge, GIANT haunted area you get to explore the whole game. Sort of like the first LM on the gamecube but like 5x as big so the game is way longer.

A lot of the Hotel is basically a theme park already and feels disjointed because of that, but if they actually properly lean into the setting I can see it doing better for it.

@@xXEPIKgamerXx yeah this is the one complaint I have with the game, some of the floors just dont make sense most of the time. Like, why is there an entire floor dedicated to the pirate theme while having a goddamn ocean in it? I dont care who you are, that wouldn't work in any multistory structure, and because of this, the game's immersion is pretty fucked now. I beat the game thinking, "how has all that sand, water, plant matter, and other shit not completely collapsed this 15 story building that seems pretty old?" otherwise, great game

Luigi could easily be completely separated from Mario in his next LM outing so long as the gameplay is kept just as good as it is. Actually, it'd be really, REALLY cool if the next LM game canonized Luigi and Daisy's relationship by having Daisy be the main character that Luigi is attempting to save.

Dark Moon had a much better beastiary than 3 which is one of the very few things Dark Moon has over 3.

I think that if Waluigi appeared in a mainline Nintendo game, it would be Luigi’s Mansion. Maybe not as the primary antagonist, maybe even as a secondary protagonist. Make it so that Wario got kidnapped or something and he just helps you for that reason, like Bowser Jr in Bowser’s Fury. Maybe even have him be a Player 2 character

@@waffleman8053 something like Mario strikers won't fly today, Nintendo has control of the mario IP on a short leash. Heck, the development of one such weird spin off was what caused them to bring the hammer down on Mario spin offs in the first place, now everything needs to pass the Nintendo code of honor if you can believe that's a thing. If we get a new strikers title, expect it to be devoid of everything people loved about it, at the very least no Mario characters making obscene gestures or Mario characters beating the shit out of each other.

Not only that but the bosses in 2 actually felt like bosses, usually having one or two big ghost with endlessly spawning ghosts in the background. 3's felt like another battle you have to do with slight changes. Also if they bring back the Scarescracper in 4, I really hope they remove that button that everyone's has to stand on(Including their gooigis) in order to open a door.

Take Disneyland’s haunted mansion idea and run with it! Going through a mansion seeing Luigi in different settings would be splendid

A combination of the two is something that LM can really excel in IMO. Not quite Mario, not quite Resident Evil.

Daisy is such an underused character.

Daisy and even Waluigi would be a perfect fit for the series honestly, and a great way to finally put them in SOMETHING.

Having another character joining Luigi could lead to an evolution of Gooigi's mechanics. Like, you could have the characters split up and solve puzzles on either side of the game's "mansion" or something.

I share the sentiment. Next Level Games just doesn’t understand how to make a faithful Luigi’s Mansion. Though I’ll grant 3 was a considerable improvement over Dark Moon (the ghosts don’t have those abhorrent pupils!)

Part of the problem is taking a very focused, replayable 5 hour arcade style metrodvania and turning it into a 20+ hour action game is challenging to say the least. But that can be fixed actually quite easily from a conceptual standpoint with enough elbow grease. The main problem is that NLG doesn't try to replicate the vibe LM1 had whatsoever. growing up my dream sequel for LM was supposed to go harder on the spookier aspects and lean in to its Resident Evil roots while maintaining its unique electronic funky flavor and classic campyness. NLG is doing the exact opposite by generalizing all the flavor out of the game and being rewarded for it through increased casual sales, its a bit of a bummer. Still, LM4 would be mightily improved if they simply took the slam away from combat, because boy does that one mechanic turn the majority of LM3 into a slog!

Some of the bosses were good, but the Hotel ghosts didn't quite replicate the purpose and appeal of the Portrait ghosts in the original, how they broke up the monotony of room to room exploration and provided unique characters to explore in between combat phases. In LM3 they are *only* bosses, which makes their combat phases more interesting, but it leaves the blue goobers and the small selection of other mobs to carry a majority of the levels, and they don't do so well in that regard. Not to mention there is not as much lore and connections to discover between the hotel ghosts as there were with the portrait ghosts, they are kinda just there to fit their floor's theme and be in the way, mystery and motivation be damned. Well, except Morty, who is the best ghost in the game, despite having one of the worse boss fights lol.

@@xXEPIKgamerXx Totally agree. But the hotel ghosts were a large step in the right direction compared to Dark Moon (unlike Origami King taking a tiny half step in a sort of OK direction, for instance).

@@robo-roger7815 True, and I think Nintendo has vastly underestimated the demand for this franchise. But the 3DS also sold tremendously well and Dark Moon was the first game after a 12-year absence, so that naturally pumped up sales, I think. I don't know, I could be totally wrong, and I kind of hope I am. Call me optimistic, but only very cautiously.

I agree. Especially in the enemy variety. As (no offense when I say this) its a joke, figuratively and literally a joke(bc the first letter of the first four spell out ghost 🙄). I really hoping they improve that in the 4th one.

I agree, part of it is that LM1 is highly replayable whereas LM3 and DM are not, but over the many times I've played LM1 I've not only found more secrets uncovered each time I play I find more mysteries. My taste and preference for LM1s art direction, level design, and sound design over NLG's style might be a matter of a opinion, but I cant help think of it as a fact that LM3 and DM do not have any of the mystery or wonder that LM1 had and still has. The overall mood of the 2 newer games does not leave a lasting impression like LM1 still does. Its a shame because I don't think anyone would blame them for at least trying to replicate it let alone improve upon it, but I think that's a hard sell to the powers that be at Nintendo now that LM3 has sold 10 mil catering to the casual player.

I think old Luigi’s mansion would be better described as eerie rather than scary/spooky. None of the games are inherently scary, and the original wasn’t even supposed to be scary, they just kinda ran with the theme. I enjoy a bit of the goofiness in 3 from time to time, but it does kinda lack that eerie feel of the original
