Lum and Abner was an American network radio comedy program created by Chester Lauck and Norris Goff that was aired from 1931 to 1954. Modeled on life in the small town of Waters, Arkansas, near where Lauck and Goff grew up, the show proved immensely popular. In 1936, Waters changed its name to Pine Ridge after the show's fictional town.
Program: The Lum & Abner Show
Title: The Post Office
Air Date: 10-24-1948

Note: This old time radio show is in the public domain* and from my personal collection and can be used for historical, educational, and entertainment purposes.
*We have checked with the Library of Congress regarding the status of old time radio recordings made prior to 1978 and that all such recordings are generally in the public domain, as sound recordings were not allowed under the previous copyright law and such recordings have not been granted copyright status under the new laws.

In the early 1970s there was nostalgia for 1930s 40s and the local AM radio station in my hometown WBAC in Cleveland Tennessee ran these programs every morning before school. many thanks for posting

I remember the 1970s nostalgia craze, everything from comic strips to radio shows were revived. A local country music station was playing 2 episodes every night for a week of L&A and my mom introduced me to old time radio with L&A and from then on been a fan.

I'm in my 30s and started listening to old radio shows when I worked as a stocker on the graveyard shift at Target in my 20s. These are so much bettet than modern podcasts when I want to listen to something light.

Frigidaire. When most people in the US didn’t have refrigeration
@EarthSurferUSA
@EarthSurferUSA 3 года назад
According to this: therefrigerator-ca.weebly.com/timelines.html Over 2 million Americans owned refrigerators in 1937. But like the production of many things, due to the war effort, real mass production of more modern refrigerators did not start until after WW2. 1948 was prime selling time. Just like the horse in front of the cart, they had to be produced before they could be sold. "Ford. When most people in the US didn't have a car." Free market advancement.
@glennso47
@glennso47 Год назад
“Not every Frigidaire is a refrigerator. Not every refrigerator is a Frigidaire. “ They used to have a ad like that.

Lum and Abner never envisioned a post office such as the one there was in Jersey City from 1973-1999.Drug dealing,drinking,prostitution,employee theft,bookmaking,loan sharking,phony compensation cases,people sleeping all over the place and various other offenses inimical to a workplace.It's cleaned up now.
