This is a fabulous story of the Birmingham Lunar Society. Thank you. I have visited Soho House and it it awe inspiring, especially that room where the members would sit around and talk these new innovative ideas. I am writing in November 2023 and I don’t yet know what happened to the statues that were in Chamberlain Square before the old Central Library was demolished. Also to mention, are the various buildings/homes (e.g. Great Barr Hall, bless it) that were hosted by each Lunatick member. Lastly, the stones that encircle the Asda car park in Queslett.
I have been saying for more years than I care to remember that #Birmingham should make more of The Lunar Men and their contribution to the creation of the modern world. Glad to see History West Midlands share my view with this excellent film. I would like to see Birmingham celebrate The Lunar Men with a Lunar Men Museum in Birmingham City Centre at either the former Birmingham Municipal Bank building at 301 Broad Street where the statue of Boulton, Watt and Murdoch is or around the corner at the Gas Retort House in Gas Street. My idea for this won the runners up prize in the recent Birmingham Civic Society 'Re-Imagine' competition for Birmingham's 'at-risk' buildings
Still no #LunarSociety Trail in #Birmingham where these #GreatMen #MatthewBoulton , the #Scottish #Engineer #JamesWatt whose #steamengines powered the #IndustrialRevolution and #WilliamMurdoch who pioneered #GasLighting #madethemodernworld right here in #Birmingham ........#KeithBracey @1truclaretnblu #BirminghamMadeMe #MadeInBirmingham #MadeInTheMidlands
