"A don doesn't wear shorts."
Throughout The Sopranos, Tony certainly has his fare share of enemies and antagonists that we see throughout the series. From the toxic mother had to deal with for a majority of his life, to the plethora of nagging girlfriends, to his wife Carmela, the FBI, and even the multiple rats that try and take down Tony and his family, Tony certainly has to watch his back at all times. But there';s no enemy that causes Tony more stress than his close friends in New York in The Lupertazzi Crime Family. No matter who their boss was, from Phil, Johnny, to even Carmine Lupertazzi Sr., they always costed Tony millions of dollars.

I can't believe how much my feelings about them have changed! My first time watching, I honestly always preferred the earlier stories about Tony having an antagonist within his family as opposed to grappling with external parties. But on my most recent view, I found the Lupertazzis to be fascinating! Carmine Sr. was such a competent boss, and I came to finally understand the Season 4 plot regarding his dispute with Tony on the Esplanade split. I now love watching that part and all of the background dealings that Carmine and Johnny make against one another. It was also a lot of fun watching the war between Johnny and Little Carmine play out, along with Phil's ascension after John's short reign. These are now some of my favorite parts of the show given my love of political intrigue stories! This is one of the rare videos where I learned something completely new, as I never noticed the Paglieri family! So cool that multiple New York families were represented in that final sit-down. I also didn't realize Doc Santaro was acting boss during Phil' hospital visit, or that Torciano was Phil's protege. The graphic included with the video is a really useful resource. Even more excited for my next watch through now! 💜

I really think the Lupertazzis replaced the Lucchese Crime Family in the Sopranos. There have been references to former bosses/members of the other four families except for the Luccheses(I think). The names Teresi, Mangano, Infante and Paglieri are probably just the names of the current bosses and so other mobsters would refer to the families by their bosses’ names. Plus Phil was like Vic Amuso who started a war with their NJ crew so the similarities are there.

It was so confusing that they made fictional families, when they reference the real families throughout the series. What makes you think that Butch was incompetent? I'm thinking it was Butch who took out Tony in the end with help from someone in the Soprano crew. It would be easy for one of Tony's crew to turn on him. By the last season, Tony is so corrupted by his vices, weaknesses, & character flaws that it would have been pretty clear that he had to be taken out. Take Tony out, & deal with whoever is left. I think Phil said that.
@Dobad415
@Dobad415 7 месяцев назад
Yeah I agree. I think at first butch was trying to take over by maneuvering Phil up front (without him realizing it) but when he seen Phil was just not making the cut he decided to get rid of Phil (the dead weight) by weaponizing the Jersey family then taking Tony out. He probably made a deal with Pauly to make it happen. His reasoning for using Phil originally was probably in hopes that the feds would focus on "The Boss" (Phil)

I always thought that the show-runners didn’t know that there are other mafia’s in Italy, and just assumed it was all mafia (Cosa Nostra), across Italy. Some confusing things come from that too (not just that the clan seems to be structured like the mafia), like Furio coming over. He would have had to be made, and also adapt to a new culture, as Camorra clans work quite differently - even those that did affiliate with the Sicilians, and were officially inducted into Cosa Nostra, didn’t have their clans members made along with it, so I don’t know why Furio is assumed to be a made guy….. (In fairness, it’s confusing to the point I’ve confused myself with this comment 😂, so maybe the showrunners didn’t want to confuse the audience by explaining about Camorra, ‘Ndrangeta, Società foggiana etc…

Lucchese family is not the most powerful family. The lukes are generally in the middle between the bigger and smaller ones. At this time however in late 90s/2000s technically the Bonanno’s were the most powerful however going off historical trends I would lean more towards the Gams or the Westside. More than likely it’s based on the Gams considering the Carmine is a present and known boss who doesn’t set up front bosses like the Westside. So for me the Lupertazzi’s are based on the Gams which in 2004 were estimated to have between 150 and 200 made members so lines up with the shows lines when the Tony says they have 200 buttons.

As Carmine Jr might have put it, the Lupertazzis are one of the most profane crime families in the anals of history. Though they had numerous alterations with the Sopranos, both of the families realized that a pint of blood costs more than a gallon of gold and kept their differentials to a minimalist.

@wiseguysonny1697, supposedly, the Outfit are #1 as far as Cosa Nostra in Amerikwa goes. Some claim the Outfit is as powerful - if not more so - than all 5 nyc families combined. That said, Cosa Nostra in Amerikwa was always at best glamorized lackeys to far more formidable organized crime organizations. Which would be more powerful & formidable? The organized crime organizations that are ultimately "street gangs" upon whom the federal govt + media has waged full on open warfare (to varying degrees) & who are widely *seen as* criminals...or organized crime gangs like the intentionally deceitfully named "federal" reserve which are widely *seen as* legitimate "legal" & "respectable" "institutions" by the population & arent targeted by the feds & also own/control almost everything from the entire corporate media all the way to hollywood & beyond??? Btw,in case you didnt know, in truth, the so called "federal" reserve is a privately owned bank corporation that literally "creates" the money supply out of thin air - they just type it up & print as they desire - that the USA federal govt by law must BORROW - AT INTEREST FROM THE FIRST "DOLLAR" THEY PRINTED. You might wonder, since this "federal" reserve is by law the only "legal" or "legitimate" source of currency, & they LOAN every unit of currency/dollar AT INTEREST from day 1 since this scheme was enacted (back in 1913,which is the reason we have "income tax" aka "protection money"), how the hell can the debt be paid off if the very first dollar was not just the dollar itself that needed to be "repaid," but also the accompanying interest attached to it??? How can that "national debt" be paid off? Answer: it cant be. Since they're the only "legal" source of money supply, the only way to come close to "paying" the debt is to go back to them & BORROW more of their "dollars" - which will again also have MORE INTEREST attached to it. As you can imagine, the debt just keeps spiralling & expanding with time so long as the system is in place. You gotta borrow more & more then you gotta borrow even more to "pay" the preceding dollars interest once it gets called in, which creates even more debt & so on. That's the most basic reason why the American "national debt" never gets paid off. Its kind of like trying to repay credit card debt by taking out a loan with even more interest or something. Anyway, yeah, they were able to pass this anti human "legislation" that created this "federal" reserve central banking scheme/fraud by buying off a few key politicians in con-gress along with Woodrow Wilson who waited till con-gress had gone on holiday vacation. They kept it highly secret from con-gress writ large & as i recall they snuck into con-gress at night after most congressmen were gone & rammed it through. Wilson hurriedly signed it into law. Bada bing! Oh yeah, they plotted this in great secrecy in Georgia on an island called Jekyll island. Even had elaborate travel plans to keep it secret, rented a bunch of different trains & kept non schemers in the dark. Imagine having a nice printer & you decide to start printing what you tell everyone is "money" & laws are enacted declaring your printer truly is the only one capable of printing "real/legal" money & allows you to charge interest for every single unit of the "money" you print out of thin air...basically, you'd have a magic money machine. As you probably know, banks arent even required in America to even bother having as many physical "dollars" in their vaults as they're "lending" out. This is known as "fractional reserve lending." They're able to issue out a lot more legally binding (for us) "loans" than they even have in their vaults. Basically a scheme on top the foundational core scheme. They dont even need to "own" as many magic pieces of paper they print out of thin air. Unbelievable stuff. So diabolically cunning you cant make it up. And for the 99% of Americans, we dont get to just accredit ourselves with infini money with magic money machines as we see fit and demand interest on top of it. But for the 1%, their sham fraud of a system is backed up by the cops, feds, & military. Push comes to shove, men with guns can & will come for you or me. But not for the 1%. Not really. And this system absolutely is a form of organized criminal activity, regardless of whether or not it's widely recognized as such in a technical or practical sense. It's probably the peak of organized criminal activity in all known history.
