I’m surprised that you didn’t go for the larger storage option as I think they have more RAM which would help with performance. I’m currently using the 2020 iPad Pro 12.9. I’m planning on upgrading if/when new iPads are announced.
We thought so too. But with the 1TB malfunctioning as much as all the others ones… Uncle Dan’s really testing the more RAM theory right now, while waiting to see if a new iPad is released this year. So far, the M2 with 512 GB is brilliant.
Unless I am missing something there are a couple of things that could explain the experiences being described:. The first is that the 1TB storage will have little/no impact on the the processor speed, even though it may have 16GB RAM instead of 8GB RAM on the 512GB models. So, it probably does not future proof an iPad in the same way as it might a Mac. The 1TB primarily helps when you need to download a lot of 4K Video or 7000 RAW images from a sports event. The second and perhaps the most significant issue, could be trying to save money by buying a 4 year old iPad. Even if it is an unused device, the processor is potentially 4 generations older than either Apple or Luma Touch are planning on for their latest feature set. They are not expecting people to keep their iPads much more than 4 to 6 years, and are expecting high end video editors with significant workloads to have the latest devices. The most cost effective way I've found for video and photo editing is to buy the latest and greatest iPad (I'm planning a purchase this year), use it for about 4 years and then move/give it over to a less demanding task/person and buy the latest iPad Pro. An even better option, if you have the money, is to buy an M2 or M3 MacBook with maximum ram, and install Lumafusion on that.
That makes total sense, thanks! It seems I have to buy the latest iPad and give away the M2 when Apple releases a new device. The MacBook is great, but I prefer the touchscreen on the iPad. - Dan
i am DYING for the new ipads to be released, rumors says one thing then it keeps getting pushed back. i don't know if i should just bite the bullet and buy the 2022 Ipad pro >.
I would not buy the M2 iPad pro right now. The new iPad Pros have to release sometime this year, so it wouldn't be a good idea to buy an M2 iPad. Besides, If you really want the new iPads because of the rumoured features, why are you buying the older model?
Yes, we would love to try E-ink devices. Only the one we currently have has been difficult to screen record and without that solution, we haven’t really tried any other ones.
