I am very excited to upgrade in a few weeks to the Macbook Pro M3 Pro! Writing this comment on my 12 year old (!) 2012 Macbook Pro Retina (back in the day it was the first time Steve Jobs introduced the retina display) which i bought when starting college in 2012 for a wopping 2700 euros of student money. What a journey it has been for me with this device! It stood with me during my 6 years of college, i wrote my master thesis with this laptop, i wrote my girlfriend (now wife)'s master thesis with this laptop, i started my first wedding photography business with this laptop around 2018 which made me a ton of money and now currently my wife is using this laptop for her own baby photography business that she started and she still using this laptop for professional photoshop editing! UNBELIEVABLE. It's crazy to look back on the journey! But it's time to move on, I am sure the Macbook Pro M3 Pro will be worth every penny over the long run too and i hope to write a similar comment in 2036!!

Great video review! I upgraded from my 2019 15 inch Intel MacBook Pro to the new 2023 M3 Pro 16 inch MacBook Pro and I love it! It performs phenomenally! I got the 512GB SSD/36GB RAM because Final Cut Pro projects I keep on external SSD drive, same with my photo library.

I have a 2017 MBP and man... It always needs 10-30 seconds to open an app (depends on the app) and the fan is always going nuts. I'll get my M3 Pro 16" in a few days and I'm happy about it :-) I really don't need the M4 Pro that's coming later this year. This Macbook is already a BEAST. Thank for the review!

I just got a M3 Pro MacBook Pro 16" from work (base 18GB model) to replace a 4 year old Intel MacBook Pro 16" and I agree it's a very noticeable upgrade. Everything feels much faster, waking from sleep mode is basically instant. I haven't had a chance to put it through its paces yet but I can see the battery lasting for ages - it sat at 100% for about 30 mins of light use after already being in sleep mode for about an hour.

I wouldn’t say it’s cumbersome to carry this 16” laptop everywhere but if you need the battery and screen size. M3 Pro with 16” is the way to do it

Thanks for doing this video. I almost didn’t watch as I was on the hunt for users of M3 MacBook Pro users that were running Logic Pro😄But I am so glad I did watch, as you mentioned your usage with Logic Pro which is really what I was mostly interested in. I wanted to know how it held up with heavy track counts using a tonne of plugins?! Also did the fans kick in for you whilst running Logic pro ? It would be great if you could maybe show this in more depth, because M3 reviews are few for those who are interested in Music Production, there are plenty for video editors etc. I am on Intel MacBook 2015 and wanting to upgrade, but trying to decide on right specs. thanks again👍🏾.

Didn't use a ton of plugins but all I can say is that if you're gonna use Logic, make sure to max out the RAM to 36GB if you can. It can eat up a ton of RAM if you've got well over 100+ tracks and if you add the plugins, it'll do some heavy lifting. But the same spec config I have should last you 5+ years easily if you're just doing music production.

I wasn’t sure whether to go for the Max so I could upgrade to 48gb or 64gb?! Trying to future proof so I will get as many years out of it as possible. I would ideally like 4tb SSD like you, but costs real hike up so may have to stick to 2TB. Thanks once again

I would imagine that M2 Max machines will be between $1000 and $2000 off retail pricing depending on the machine specifications within the next six months based on current M1 Max discounts. M1 Max machines have a GPU scaling issue which was fixed in M2 Max so this issue may affect current M1 Max pricing. That issue affects GPU performance. Also, the SSD write speed of the 512 GB M2 Pro are about half those for larger capacity SSDs.

I would assume they won’t have tons of M1 Max stock since very few people I know jumped to m3 max, they are waiting for m5. Maybe you can find better deals on M2 Max outside Apple refurbished. Most people I know who are buying a Max are buying the M2 Max over the m3 max, these are people who can’t “max” out the max soc.

I’m thinking of getting the M3 MacBook Pro 36gb 512gb but I don’t know if it’ll be an overkill and should just go with the 18gb. I’m afraid later one it wont be enough and I would have regretted not getting more ram. For context I don’t have a laptop I currently have an iPad Pro 2020 which is too slow and usu able for me when I try to edit 4k video. What do you recommend? Thank you great video!

Max out the RAM on the M3 Pro to 36GB. If you do 18GB of RAM, you'll just have headaches editing anything with 4K60fps and higher resolution videos. Its because these videos needs a ton of system memory to batch process these massive files. Edit your projects off external drives, I use Premiere Pro for that. Easy to keep files off the computer. Thats what I do. No need to do anything with storage, Apple overcharges for that.

my new job lets me choose my own laptop, strongly considering this as i would like to have a 16" screen for when i'm not plugging in to an external monitor, and the battery life seems to be way better than most windows laptops.

You're not gonna be disappointed with the M3 Pro 16" MBP. If you don't need all that power, consider the M3 Air 15" You can still plug into a monitor (2 of them with laptop lid closed) and it's a lot lighter for on-the-go travel.

Honestly 10% of me misses the 16” screen, but the 14” is a better fit for me 90% of the time. I’m mostly in docking stations or at a desk where I can get close enough, but when laying in bed and using on my legs the 14” is slightly small 😢

You should probably use Handbrake or Compressor (comes with FCPX) and on this M3 Pro, you should be looking at 2-3 mins tops. H.265 is probably the best option.

@@DigiDriftZone well think about it, is 2 inches going to break your arms or backpack? advantages are simply the bigger screen, bigger battery, the superior cooling and sound. Even if I have to travel every week, if I can carry 14 inch, I can assure you that the 16 inch will be just as portable.

@@user-mr3ok2iw3l Yes, it's substantially bigger in the bag, in fact it won't fit in many bags and forget about slings like the 10l Peak Design sling (14" fits fine), it's also a lot thicker, so you feel it a lot more in the now larger bags you need to carry, carrying it on the train/plane/cafe is the difference between having back ache after or not (plus it's a struggle to fit in such tight spaces). Lifting it day to day in use is the difference between 1 hand or needing 2, you can't carry it with 1 hand if you need to take a laptop to another room, etc, etc - it's a big quality of life difference unless you're mostly using it as a stationary desktop. But yes, some important advantages too.

I'm hesitating between the M3chip and the M3Pro chip. I think the M3 chip would fit my needs but I really like the Space Black color and it fits my budget. However, I noticed some white lines linked to the use of the thunderbolts... Also, it has a 18hrs battery life, against a 22hrs one for the M3chip. What would you advise me to do? Thank you !!

The Trifecta huh? I’d still suggest M3 Pro for MOST people. It’s more affordable and still more powerful than any Intel-based computers and even the M1 Max/M2 Pro.

Wouldn’t say throttled but you will have more head room on the M3 Max given it’s a much more capable chip, but for everything you just told me. The M3 Pro is more than enough for you.

I am planning to take pluge on similar lines but on the fence on this - Would the configuration your mentioned 16" M3 Pro with a 12-core CPU, 18-core GPU, and 36 GB RAM - 512gb be better or a one with 16" M3 Pro with a 12-core CPU, 18-core GPU, and 18 GB RAM - 1TB ssd be better. basically spending a more on the SSD upgrade than on the RAM

If you’re keeping for a while (5-6 years) go 64GB. If you think of swapping to a new one in 2-3 years. You can save money now and get 48GB

My main complaint about Mac laptops is them insisting on using ABS plastic for the keys. ABS "Always Be Shiny" They need to use PBT. Tired of the glossy look after just a few months of usage on every laptop they make.

Yeah, compared to windows laptop that are similar in performance, I call that a win! The beauty in all of that is you don’t lose a significant amount of power being unplugged. I’m not too familiar with your workload, but I’m assuming if it’s anything like heavy media workflow, it should last a minimum of 4-5 hours.

Hi!! I think when M3 Air comes out next year it’ll have the same performance as the M3 14”, slower than M3 Pro and M3 Max. M2 is still just as good as M3 though. If you wanna save up til next year when M3 Air 15” comes out. Do that instead so you can spec it much higher with more RAM and SSD.

@@HeyMarkL yeah thats what im saying though., kapag spec bump lang ulit makukuha ng M3 air(15) next year over the m2 air(15) i think id go for the m2-considering price too.. i mean, its not like the leap from intel macs to silicon a few years ago right? dito po kasi sa Pinas since we dont have official apple stores we can only get 8GB of ram weather we choose 256 or 512 SSD from the authorized resellers :( been that way since

I often find myself editing without a bigger external monitor and so when I’m at a hotel or event. Having the extra screen real estate is HUGE for me.

@@Bamsambam33 I'm down sizing to the 14" from a 16". I'll plug it into a couple monitors for photo editing and working at home and use it as my work device which needs to be ultra portable since the 16 was just to cumbursome for working in my day office (my truck) . I tried out the Air 2 13 and that screen size was fine to me so the 14" will be good to go.

I still use my only one laptop and that’s the 2014 MBP with the i5, 8gb ram and iris gpu. You think I should upgrade to the M1 Max or m3 Max for an IT student focused on cybersecurity and basic coding ?

So you got a space black MacBook that’s the only reason you upgraded is for the color and then you covered it more than 50% with D brand skins. You could have just put skins on your M1 Max.

They don’t sell track pad skins separate anymore they only have one and I’m not a huge fan of design. Do the track pads feel good?

I'm finding it impossible to get excited about computers these days. I guess the $3000 and $4000 models are the bare minimum of what I'd expect in 2023. But the rest are SO BORING. Oh well.

Thank you, for this excellent review video. However, as for myself, how can this be the perfect Apple laptop if, it does not have any of the following: a built-in DVD super-drive, works with an Apple remote control, and the Apple logo on top does not light-up when powered on? Yes, I know that sorry, I am showing my age here (smile...smile).

I think Apple's new "M" series (M-1, M-2, and M-3) laptops are excellent for someone like yourself, that needs a portable and powerful computer "on-the-go". With my Apple desktop and my basic iPad 9th generation with 256GB and the cell data option paired with a Logitech Combo Touch keyboard and case, I just no longer have any need for an Apple laptop. While spending $3,000 on an Apple laptop is not an issue for me at all. However once, I bring it home there needs to be a reason for me to use it. Do you have any thoughts on how, I could make use of it? (smile...smile)

I feel like the m1 was mid blowing and now it's a bunch of the same just like intel was for years. And prices are going up like crazy. Apple is going every time more and more into the luxury direction and becoming always less accessible for people who need/want to get work done on a mac.

The beauty of it coming every year with new chips mean older models that’s considered fast now will be much more affordable :) look at M1 13” Air. $649 at Best Buy. If that’s not an affordable Mac, then I don’t know what is.

@@HeyMarkL In Germany they still cost 899€ and I find it hard to see the beauty in buying an old laptop just because it's cheaper. The Mac Pro is gone up in price by almost 50%. Apple prices don't make sense. It's like joulery or designer clothes and it should be priced like a workers tool should IMO.

...and most people who need a lot storage end up having to go for some external ssd because the prices apple charges for ssd and ram are absurd. I'm pretty sure the baseline models and a few MacBooks or Mac Mini's are a good deal. But the Mac Studio and Mac Pro are very hard to be justified. A PC with the same configuration will cost you a third or even a quarter of the price for the same configuration. That's insane!
