I’ve got an unopened edition 4, but I drank and enjoyed my edition 6

I still have an unopened 40 I bought many many years ago and the price has just skyrocketed over the past two years, I think I bought it for around 900 pounds in duty free over two decades ago and they're going for near 60 THOUSAND dollars now. On one hand I really want to open it but I don't know if I can justify drinking that much money. My 70th birthday is coming up soon so maybe will have to crack it open for that!

Online will be your only option. They only bottled it in 2019 or 2020 I think.

I had a friend that would mix my fine Irish whiskey into Coke while I just silently wrung my hands because as the fellows say: The best way to drink whiskey is the way that you like to drink whiskey.

@@georgeorwell126 Ouff! Yeah I have had a similar situation. Chivas 15 year old finiished in grande champagne cask. My friends boyfriend asked to mix it with coke. But there i drew the line haha. Even if the quote goes as you say ;)

@@LitoCortes yeah. Plenty of american oak which has held sherry (sirup) and then whisky. The mainstream sherry barrels are like these afaik

I sometimes think reading the box or bottle greatly influences Daniel's nosing and tasting notes.

I remember them talking about it in a previous video (I think it was for a glenfiddich product or something, as they were one of the first brands to do that), and they said it's entirely a marketing thing to make things seem more fancy (yet still be recyclable/disposable for people that aren't collectors). Where when a bourbon or American whiskey is trying to do a special box to be more fancy in their marketing, they tend to use wood boxes, trying to lean more toward the "rustic charm, made in America by hardworking..." type of marketing that tends to be used more with American whiskeys. I would love for them to go more in depth than that though, as it was a blink and you'll miss it conversation in the middle of just one video.

They do it so they can charge more of a premium for it. I have always thought it silly as hell.

@@karl_alan nope, or at least not that I know of. But Rex and Daniel said a couple of vault videos ago, that just about everything that is left of the donated whiskeys for review are hard or impossible to get bottles.

Ones that we can get here in Toronto would be nice too. It sucks a lot, whisky wise for some things.

Except they've already reviewed most of those and they are trying to work through the backlog of donated whiskey
