I guess that I'm lucky. Where I live we have 87 and 89 that are 10% ethanol. Our Non- Ethanol is 91. We don't have anything higher than 91. Back in the mid-80's I worked in the gray market making euro. spec. cars legal to drive on the US highways. We did everything testing wise on them. Even a tailpipe sniff test. And the gas that we used was 130 octane. It was called Endaline and it cost $3.00 a gal. But man when I put some in my 1985 Ford Mustang GT. It ran awesome and the gas smelled like it did back in the 1960's.

Here in my area of New York, it's the same as where you are. 91 octane is Non-Ethanol. I run it on everything I have with a carburetor, including my lawnmower. For my antique tractor, I use 91 octane with a lead additive since it doesn't have hardened valve seats.

Yes please discuss types of gasoline. Here in Illinois, southeastern Illinois, we can go to FS, which stands for farm service and get gasoline without alcohol in it. A lot of farmers use it in their trucks made before alcohol was added to gasoline. It cost a heck of a lot more; I actually use it in my boat. Two cycle engines just do not like that alcohol gasoline.
@donbellot4214
@donbellot4214 9 дней назад
For a long time you could only get gass with ethanol in it in Illinois. State passed a law to help the farmers out. One of about 500 reasons I left ten years ago.

@@donbellot4214 i’m a very stubborn man. I’d rather stay and fight. But I’ll be honest, I don’t blame you. Ethanol did not help to farmers. Common sense says you shouldn’t burn your own food. Lol. But you can still buy non-alcohol gas here, the farmer still use it and their older trucks. But it is the lower octane gas.

@@MrPoppyDuckI wouldn’t think you’d have to go too far to get a tank. But still, it’s only 87 octane, you can boost that with additives though. It’s more expensive per gallon than the high test at the pump. And it’s taxed for driving too so no trouble there either. Works good enough for my 2 cycle boat.

We are very fortunate up here that we are getting more and more non-ethanol pumps available in out area. Many of ours are 92 octane, but 87 is also available at some locations. Back in the day when i worked at a small engine repair shop in high school, our fuel extraction setup was exactly the same! What a trip! That 10% Ethanol wreaks havoc on older fuel systems for sure. I've seen it badly corrode fuel bowls to almost a destroyed state.

I had two motorcycles come in the shop with in a couple of days of one another to get back going after sitting.. one sitting for only a year , one sitting for 18 years .. both smelled horrible, and needed extensive tank cleanings..(vinigar baths 3-4days) two things, I save all fuel and run it in my old forklift or mowers.. the 1 year fuel would not run.. the 18yr old fuel ran them fine minus the exhaust smell.. and as far as the tanks.. the amount of rust in the 1 yr old sitting tank was 3 times as bad as the 18yr sitting tank.. both were not good, but big diff in modern fuel pulling moisture into your system.. i should have done a video on that..
@AutoRestoMod
@AutoRestoMod 9 дней назад
Yeah that would have been a really good video and I've run into that as well. Newer gas because of the up to 10% ethanol in them will tend to collect more water than the older fuels which had zero ethanol. It's one of the reasons why boaters won't use non-ethanol fuel most of the time in their boats. And also why airplanes don't use it.

🔔😎 I pull the tank, pressure wash inside, get er clean. Its pretty easy to add a drain, but I dont let mine sit very long. BTW mine have drains. We do have 55 barrel and a big 12 volt fuel pump to suck em out in a few minutes. Old fuel, we might mix 2-3 gallons in the shop truck just to get rid of the old gas.
@AutoRestoMod
@AutoRestoMod 9 дней назад
That's honestly one of the best ways to do it because it's getting harder and harder to dispose of old fuel. We did the pressure washing on the tank on the 66 Falcon and I have to say that I didn't want to do that again. Money outweighed time
@robsdeviceunknown
@robsdeviceunknown 9 дней назад
Quick question (I hope). Are modern engines built to manage the odd fuel we are forced to use these days? Is there something special done to them to accept it? I have not worked on anything newer than like 2010 so I am not aware of any special sensors or valves etc that make the engine impervious to the methenol/ethenol mix fuels.
@AutoRestoMod
@AutoRestoMod 8 дней назад
Yes, the pumps and everything are designed to work with modern ethanol fuels the fuel lines as well. The rubber composition is different. Basically, what you almost have to do is run alcohol parts on Carburetors in order for them to work under the duress of alcohol fuels.
@hiitsstillme
@hiitsstillme 9 дней назад
Is that an Autolite 4300-D? For sure throw a kit into that, for starters... Almost for sure will be the fuel pump, too.We'd blow all that sludge out of the lines, and run some cleaner through them, front to back. We'd have the tank flushed, and pack in a new sending unit while your at it.

Here's something else you don't want to borrow from the aviation world...motor oil. The requirements are far different due to big differences in stresses between the road car v aviation environment. I had a buddy who once worked for an aviation supply company and "borrowed" oil from them. It turned two cars into oil burners.
@AutoRestoMod
@AutoRestoMod 9 дней назад
Great point! About as close as I'll get to that is diesel oil. But even the diesel oil has much much less zddp than it used to. It's still much better for the engine than regular conventional oils though.

I do have a Motorcraft 4300 and a 4300D spread bore carb I have thought about putting on it with a Edelbrock intake, but not sure how much performance it will add. And my 2V is completely stock.
