I wish WOTC would continue to print Core Sets for the health of Standard. This is the kind of card I'd love to see as a (C) in a core set - simple, interesting, and influential. Sure, most standard decks today wouldn't run it... but a free discard outlet for Reanimator would be nice, and it's still great in limited. My 2/2 attacks into your 3/3 - will you block it? Do I have 3 cards in hand, my mongrel is unblocked, and you're at 5 life - should I discard them? Those are fun decision points in limited and constructed.

(Richard) I've been playing Magic since 1997, but go into Type 2 and draft in 2001. Madness confused the hell out of me when I played against it for the first time.

@@insidethedeck It's not the most intuitive... "discard into exile".. but Wild Mongrel is an elegant design. Noose Constrictor's ... okay; but the color changing text is sometimes relevant, and if your limited format can make it relevant... reprint this guy there!

i still play mongrel in pauper. Still a good card

Mongrel is still neat for cubes, but I think most people prefer noose constrictor. I kind of want to make a cube package of green dogs with mongrel and wild dogs. Finding more dogs that care about the discard will be tough, though.
