In this video I’m going to get into something I’ve heard so many times over the years. And I’ve read something recently about it and it kind of stimulated the thought in me. That is: “Was the mafia really involved with the Catholic church?”. Watch and find out.

This is a joke not a defense. Every involvement with the Mafia or Mussulini is simply just somehow the Mafia ended up with the Vatican money or somehow Mussolini gave the Vatican 90 million dollars and somehow a couple priests abused a couple boys. But the Catholic Church is innocent - what a gas.

@@michaelfranzese Speaking as a prayerful, obedient and practicing Catholic Michael I want to thank you for giving us Catholics love. Us Catholics get bashed in society and in the media so much it seems almost cliche to do it. As you eloquently expressed the Catholic Church is not (and never has been) under the control of the mafia in any official capacity. Never. Yes there has been some corrupt and falling away clergymen that did not obey the Catholic Church's official teachings. The same can be said for people of all religions including Protestant Christian Churches. Every group (including Catholicism) is going to have a small batch of rotten apples within and Catholicism is no exception. Michael it’s kind of like when you say that the Italian mafia did not sanction the sale of drugs prior to 1980 but there were some mafia members that did not obey and still sold drugs low profile. However it was never sanctioned by the Italian mafia nor done in a official capacity by the Italian mafia high leadership. 90% of all Catholic Priests are prayerful and holy men. The Catholic Church is the most bashed religion in all of society. It's nothing new, us Catholics were persecuted for the first 300 years of Christianity. It was a crime to be a Catholic in ancient Rome. The first Pope/leader of the Catholic Church St.Peter was murdered and so were the next 32 Popes of the Catholic Church. In total, the first 33 Popes were martyred. When chosen to be the leader of the Catholic Church in ancient Rome it was a death warrant and the faithful Catholic Church leaders embraced it for Jesus Christ. They would rather die then to deny The Lord Jesus Christ. St.Ignatius (St.Peter's successor) the Bishop of Antioch in his letter to Rome, urged believers not to interfere with his death sentence or seek his release. He wrote from his jail cell, “Allow me to become food for the wild beasts, through whose means it will be granted me to reach God. I am the wheat of God, and am ground by the teeth of the wild beasts, that I may be found the pure bread of Christ.” St.Ignatius was thrown into the coliseum, where lions were immediately released on him and he met his death bravely. The first 33 Popes of the Catholic Church all courageously met similar death sentences. They were all beat to death, or mauled by beasts, or died by the Roman soldiers sword, drowned, set on fire, decapitated, thrown off buildings, skinned alive, etc. Therefore when I hear people or the media bash the Catholic Church, I don't mind much because as a Catholic I stand on the shoulders of giants. It reaffirms my faith in Jesus because as 2 Timothy 2:12 says "if you suffer with Jesus you shall reign with Jesus". < God Bless you all from Southern California

Welcome! As a fellow Catholic, my advice to you would be to seek out a parish that celebrates the traditional Latin mass. I used to go to the Novus Ordo mass, then I discovered the Latin mass and it is so much more reverent. Get yourself a Latin to English missal and follow along. Most Catholics are also very poorly catechized (I used to be one of them) so you have to put a lot of your own effort into understanding the faith. The church has over 2000 years of history so I would encourage you to learn about the many saints throughout history as well. Also remember that you can't receive holy communion until you have confessed all mortal sins (most Catholics do not understand that or do not want to believe it).

Thank you for this clarification Video on this interesting subject Michael. I also went to Catholic School like you did, I was raised with the Catholic teachings, and I graduated from a Catholic College in the New York City area. My New York College friends were mostly Italians that also were brought up Catholic, so we had much in common between us. I always believed in God and Our Savior, Jesus, but years ago, I had swayed away from being religious for several years, lived secularly, and my life went awry in many ways. One night while sleeping, I felt Our Lord’s and The Angels Presence in my dream as a His message, that woke me up, and made me realized that I needed to straighten out my wayward ways, and get myself back to practicing my Faith, which I have successfully done. My life did an about face, 180 degrees, to get myself back to my Catholic roots, which has helped me and my life tremendously. Since then, He has guided and protected me. I have been spiritually enriched, and I have more joy and peace from it in my life. I have also had several other testimonies like that one over the years too, that I have shared with others. I pray 🙏 that He Help enrich others in The Faith too, like He did for me in my life. I Thank, Praise and Glorify Him for my Epiphany and Blessings that He Gives me in my life. I feel like St Mathew who was converted from being a corrupt tax collector in his day, to change his ways to become a Christian Saint. I am glad to know that Our Lord has touched us both in our lives to follow His Path He Guides us with. I also keep you and your family in my prayers 🙏 Michael, along with everyone I pray for too. May God continue to Bless you and yours, especially in this upcoming Holiday Season that we are all Thankful for. All in Jesus Name. Amen 🙏

I'm an Italian-American from Chicago who, let's just say, knew some of "the guys." I can only speak this for myself and my own experience and knowledge. The Catholic Church is essentially The Roman Empire. It really never died, in reality. The Roman Empire converted to Christianity WAY back in the day because the people wanted it, and it evolved to what it is today. I went to all Catholic schools throughout my life, and I can definitely say I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. It was a nice upbringing, and they definitely taught the kids how to be decent human beings, compared to the public schools. With that said, of course there was some hypocrisy along the way with certain folks, and there were always some rumblings of certain Mafia members being involved in certain things. And of course we know that SOME priests are a problem, but overall I think it's a good institution and makes better human beings in society. Like anything that involves humans, it's on a spectrum. There will be some good, some decent, and some bad things/people....Whether Catholic Church, Mafia, Hospitals, schools, businesses, or otherwise. Humans are humans. you can't ever say anything is ALL good or ALL bad. I will say, the one thing I HIGHLY disagree with nowadays is them welcoming illegal aliens. Just because someone is Catholic in another country, they shouldn't get a free pass and invitation to come to America. Do it the right and legal way. But yea, from my experience, most Catholics are really very good and decent people that mean well. If there is an corruption, it shouldn't be taken out on them.

The Catholic Church is not the Roman Empire. I'm reared Catholic and from Milwaukee. I also served in the United States Marine Corps during Desert Storm. When the hell did the Catholic Church send me in some Roman Legion to attack Islamic Iraq? The economy of tiny a$$ Vatican City, is so small as to be a zit on the a$$ of the City of Milwaukee. What does Keynsian economics teach are the *3 Resources* in economics? Answer: land (including agri products like cotton, lumber, bricks, corn etc.), labor (including POPULATION SIZE, education, skills of working age pop.), and capital (e.g. trucks, machines, computers, factory buildings). Armed with that knowledge, the 600,000 strong Milwaukee could kick the sh$t out of Vatican City in a 1-on-1 war. Chicago is home to the largest commodity exchange on Earth, not Vatican City. Vatican City has an annual operating budget of $300 million, UW-Milwaukee where I was educated at has annual an operating budget DOUBLE that. If your ideas of the Chicago Outfit are as fictional and fantastical as that of Vatican City than I can't take your depiction of the Chicago Outfit as serious. The Swiss Guard of the Vatican are no match for the fire power of the Brazilian military, of Hezbollah, or Taliban, of the Israeli IDF let alone the U.S. military.

Mussolini was a socialist/communist in his early years but was kicked out of the Italian Socialist Party due to his support for Italy entering WWI. When Lenin found this out he went off the rails because he considered Mussolini as asset to socialism. Mussolini's purpose in supporting the war was to bring about the overthrow of the Habsburg and Hohenzollern monarchies. Mussolini founded the Fascist party which was founded on dictatorship of a council of labor unions. That was his brand of socialism. "Fasci" in Italian means "bundles" and those bundles in Mussolini's view were the unions. It was dictatorship by workers in its final analysis, which was very close in essence to Leninism.

That Pope's quote on the hypocrisy of Mafia leaders reminds me so much of the baptism scene in Godfather 1. Quite the irony that he "renounced" Satan, when he planned a plot equal to the Devil himself. And just so I don't re-confound the connection between the church and the Mob, remember that Michael Corleone was NOT connecting his "business" with the church, he was distancing himself from the hits with the baptism as an alibi.

I would like to add a little history. The Catholic Church had control over a large part of central Italy known as the Papal States. Whenever a foreign government controlled the area that the Catholic Church was governed from, many problems arose from the ability or perceived ability of the Church to truly have control over itself. When the unification of Italy occurred in 1861, many parts of the new government were very secular and wanted to take power away from the Catholic Church in the ability of it to control culture or the ways that people should lead their lives. The Pope knew that and when the Italian armed forces took control of the Papal States, the pope refused to recognize the new government. Mussolini was able to solve that and the money was a way to pay the Church for what was lost.

Also, the doctrine of Purgatory analogized serving time in prison in this life… 5. To serving time in Purgatory prior to eventual Absolution & Salvation in the next life. 6. I'm a catholic and have a degree in history......n based on what I read in University, the animosity between the catholic Church and the Italian govt was over the seizure of the papal states during the unification of Italy. It was resolved by Mussolini, who gave money to the pope in exchange for the lands lost by the pope and Vatican was recognised by the Italian govt as an independent city state, with a kind of stipend paid to the pope every year. After the end of WW2 the Italian govt did not annul the treaty and is recognised by both parties till today. (i may be wrong but that's what I read and it's just a summary of the treaty)

Growing up in Ohio we lived with Mafia and the church. And their ties to the UK in specific is still very much alive when we study the free masons and what is happening today! God help us!

You may be correct on a general basis, but some improprieties on a local basis certainly existed. Control, no . . . influence, yes. The turning of a head from certain activities, a sudden major funding during a time of need and the presence of (let's say) restrictive personnel at church events were VERY evident in my parish in Yonkers. It may not occur today . . . but back in the 60s & 70s, I don't know !!

Please read the book OPERATION GLADIO BY PAUL WILLIAMS it will open your eyes and literally BLOW YOUR MIND. Not what you'll want to hear as a catholic but this amazing book is based on documented history and is a must read. Also, you have talked about the mafia and drugs. This book is the foundation of the current drug situation we now have. All this began at the end of WW2 and the creation of the cia. Hence the govt. program called OPERATION GLADIO!

Yes 👆 Operation Gladio is history. Historical facts on record. Sincere, serious Truth Seekers will keep seeking until they find connect-the-dots historical facts. BUT some people prefer to stay uninformed. Others can’t even tolerate any critique whatsoever because they’ve been so thoroughly indoctrinated. Mind control programming and Indoctrination are similar. Have authority figures repeat the same thing over & Over & OVER & Over & over & Over & OVER & Over. MK Ultra, another CIA operation is mind control programming done to extremes. Pope, Lucky Lucciano & CIA. There was indeed a connection. Book “Hitler’s Pope” is available.

As I understand the reason for Mussolini's disdain for the mafia it was twofold. The first, and simplest, was because the mafia likely didn't bend over for him. The second reason was because of the disease of fascism itself. "All within the state, nothing outside the state, nothing against the state." Fascism and totalitarianism as a whole is more akin to a theocratic religion than anything else. Monarchy, republic, theocracy, the method itself is debated between fascists but the end goal is the same: absolute control. Not just over what is said in private but in the very souls. The fascists took the dark theory of the French revolutionaries like Robespierre and applied it to all levels.

I am very grateful to you Michael for making this video. Born and raised Catholic, 12 years of Catholic school as did my 3 daughters. I also taught 10 years in our Catholic elementary school. Being from Irish and Spanish decent being Catholic and always involved was part of who we are, our culture so to speak. It wasn’t until I entered the business world that I encountered quite a bit of prejudice. I believe that you addressed some misconceptions in a way that only a sincere, thoughtful Christian man like you could convey to your audience.

I kind of flip-flopped. I grew up Protestant (at best) and converted to Catholicism. I think the writings of the saints as well as the catechism is what I wanted after spending so much time in the army I liked the continuity of teaching and regimen. Being of stoic nature the silence was also very welcome. I had wondered about your transition from the Catholicism to Evangelical in the past since I went in the complete opposite. Regardless I do appreciate and love my Protestant brothers and sisters (I am the only Catholic in my family). Thank you for addressing this in your usual articulate and charitable manner. God Bless!

The Netflix series "Vatican Girl: The disappearance of Emanuela Orlandi" covers some (suspected or known) dealings between the Mafia there and the Vatican. They make reference to money exchange and)or laundering. There was another extremely powerful banker with Mafia and Vatican connections who also ended up bankrupt, but then was murdered...hung from a bridge in London. I can't remember his name. Interesting but disturbing movie.

Connie, Would you consider yourself to be a good person? Well then tell me: How many lies have you told, and what do you call someone who lies? Have you ever stolen something (even when you were small. Even from your parents. Even a sweet), and what do you call someone who steals? Have you ever taken God’s name in vain (very serious; in Old Testament times, the Jews wouldn’t even say the name of God for fear of blasphemy) - even ‘OMG’? One more: Ever disrespected your parents? Well I’m not judging you - but if you’ve done these things then you’re a liar, thief, blasphemer and rebel, so you're not good enough to go to heaven. That's how seriously God takes sin. God is holy (perfectly good/righteous and separate from sin) which means that He is perfect in justice; that means that just like a just judge does sentence criminals to pay for the wrong they caused, God sentences the punishment of all sins. No good deeds you've done have removed your sins and you've done many. If a criminal is found guilty and says to the judge that they've changed since then, repented and done many good deeds is the judge going to let them go? No - because that doesn't erase their crimes. And if God were to judge you by the moral law would you be innocent or guilty? Heaven or Hell? Because of your sins, the answer is hell - the wrath of God upon you for your sin. And that's why Jesus - the Son of God and the only one who lived a perfect life - came. Because on that cross as Jesus suffered, He took on the sin of the world and was judged in your place; receiving God’s wrath for sins so that you wouldn't have to. You and I broke God’s law, but Jesus paid the fine. God can justly forgive us. On that cross He died, then He was buried, but 3 days later He was raised from the dead - conquering death and Hell and ushering in The Kingdom of God. Now He's in heaven and one day will judge the world in righteousness. What you need to do is repent (In humility, acknowledge your sin before God and turn to Him) and trust alone in Jesus Christ and His work on the cross. Believe in Jesus - who's God incarnate. God has given no other name but the name of Jesus by which men must be saved.
