Disney's idea of the most evilist evil person is a guy that basically says "not all wishes can be granted because of the monkeys paw law" which is actually a pretty good lesson especially when some wishes are vague enough that it could do way more harm than good. I think they straight up forgot to make him a bad guy, got too far into production before some intern came running into the office like "GUYS GUYS YOU FORGOT TO MAKE THE VILLAIN EVIL!" so they made him get possessed by the colour green and eat wishes.

Boring characters, no true evil, no true good, no moral challenges....
@BeepBoop-ff7nr
@BeepBoop-ff7nr 7 месяцев назад
There's a reason the characters are now almost exclusively bland, just sort of vaguely nice and sometimes awkward empty shells - they're self-insert fodder. Not every girl can be Belle. Not every girl is like Jasmine, not every girl is like Snow White or Aurora or any of the other OG princesses. But the new crop of 'adorkable' girls? Well, their only character traits are: Nice, a little awkward sometimes, and....nice. That's it. That's all there is to them, making it incredibly easy for anyone to project themselves into their skins rather than seeing them as a character outside themselves. You know those big wooden things with characters painted on them, but with the faces cut out so you can stand behind it and put your face through the hole so it's like you're that character? That's what the new Disney heroines are. They're empty and bland so they can be applied to anyone, like those horoscopes you get in the paper that say things like "You're a virgo! You breathe air, eat food sometimes and probably like nice things. You should dress appropriately for the weather today for good luck!" and people are like "OMG THAT'S SO ME". Disney doesn't tell stories or make characters or art anymore. They make content to sell - as bland, advertiser-friendly and inoffensive as possible content. They no longer try to tell a story or send a message, though they pretend they have something to say all the time - it's empty platitudes, like those 'live laugh love' signs that got to be super popular with the bob haircut soccer moms. It means nothing but they expect it to be inspirational or make you feel better. It doesn't. The music for this movie was made by radio pop style musicians, not theatre musical artists like the old movies, and it shows. The songs are all just vaguely upbeat and are bland enough that they can be played on any radio station or in a commercial or whatever and you'd never know it was from the movie unless you had already heard them there, except maybe the villain song but with a lyric or two changed it'd be easy enough to hide in a commercial. You couldn't do that with Hellfire, or I Can Show You The World. Those songs are about what they're about and that's it. Now Disney can't even make a commitment to theme in their own songs.

I absolutely love this so much. You should make your own video discussing this. It's funny cause in the first paragraph I started thinking of horoscopes and then u touched on how it's similar to horoscopes in their vague traits that most any person can relate to in The most surface level way (I always see this one: "You hate fake people", wow. So profound. But I love this so much. I think you hit the nail on the head with what you wrote.

They really don't - they're only there to fill a quota, basically, they don't further the story or tell anything we didn't already know, they're not particularly entertaining or heartfelt, they're just there so they have an excuse to sell an album and have more fodder for commercials. @@thehappycritic33

Part of what makes old Disney classics feel bigger is that... They literally are. Beauty and the Beast moves from a tiny village to a massive castle in the middle of the woods in France. Aladdin takes our hero to the middle of the desert, a grand palice, a pocket dimension. Tangled is all over the place, Rapunzel and Flynn exploring the kingdom is many people's favorite scene in the film. The problem with movies like Encanto and Wish is that the "adventure" always takes place right outside the hero's front porch. If you've grown up seeing the castle down the street, you aren't going on an adventure to go fight the evil king that lives there.

I've gone down an insane rabbit hole of wish reviews because of how much potential it lost, and this is actually one of my favourite reviews for it! FanTASTIC job! You honestly achieved a perfect blend of bringing your own ideas for what could have improved the film without fundamentally wanting a different story. Your wand and character development idea for Asha is something that I would have loved to see, and great connection to the lack of stakes vs movies like Mulan and Lion King, I haven't seen anyone else point it out. 10/10, wish I could say the same for Disney's latest flop.

Same I went down the rabbit hole, but from the Christian perspective that see the underline jabs at Christianity. It's not in your face, but it's there subliminally. I know a few videos that pointed it out to me. I only started watching the reviews and Christian community perspective of this movie when I got uncomfortable feelings from this movie after a movie clip was leaked of the conversation between magnifico and asha. I was so confused with that clip. I believe disney should have used the original concept art instead and that would have been more faithful to honoring walts legacy and be a little respectful to others faith and beliefs, just Like how walt did before with his movies

Wish's concept art proves it could have been great: Magnifico and Amaya as a villainous couple (with a nasty cat) and Star as a kind of Genie and Peter Pan mashup who was potentially going to be Asha's love interest. Other than that, I think Asha would be a stronger character as Magnifico's apprentice from the start. This gives her magic, a tangible drive to help others, and a complex relationship with a mentor whom she feels indebted to yet starts to doubt the intentions of.

The movie really reflects the problem of Disney today. Cheap references to original IPs, the plots are lacking, the characters lack personality and nuance, Some how they are allergic to writing VILLIANS and the music trying to create a top 100 pop song. Its a shame because a lot of the potential of the movie gets axed in pre-production.

@@kinnikuman-devilman_fan_2002 I loved Chicken Little as a child! It was a very endearing story with a great plot, and I would even argue, a better twist villian because it takes the trope into the opposite direction. While I may not be an actual critic, I have enough skin in the game education wise, animator wise and all around avid consumer of Disney movies and tv shows, to hold an opinion about Disney, and the current trend they are on when it comes to their content. I don't know who ascribed you the title of being a fake Disney fan for liking Chicken Little, but just as much as you liking Chicken Little doesn't make you a fake fan, it doesn't make me a fake fan for pointing out when Disney drops the ball.

You nail it! This movie issue is that play EVERYTHING so safe that is just ... fine. No romance because that ruins female leads. The princess is the same awkward nice girl from the last 5 movies. The villain is just evil, and the ending is so boring. As you say is like a movie made for children, but as some guy called Walter Disney said "You're dead if you aim only for kids. Adults are only kids grown up, anyway." and sadly this was aimed only for kids.

I definitely agree that Disney somehow feels afraid to show darker themes again. It's a shame cause they're very good at it. The examples you showed still stick with me to this day. Encanto felt like the last film where death actually occurred. Pedro and Alma lost their home, neighbors/friends, in a raid then he was literally slaughtered in front of his wife while trying to protect her and his newborns. Alma was traumatized for life but had no time to grieve properly and had to guide/protect an ENTIRE village while raising triplets. It was dark and tragic and we saw how it impacted her heavily.

Did you know that in the original script the king and queen were supposed to be evil & the main character was supposed to be their daughter. On the surface it appear that the king and queen was doing good by using magic to help people but in reality it was supposed to be some type of brainwashing or something like it's a price you pay for happiness and the princess had no idea about it. And the Little Star guy was supposed to help her undo it to remind them that they don't need magic for everything and after undoing the evil he turns back human and it was revealed that he was a magical Prince who was cursed with dark magic and needed to Grant 100 good wishes in order to turn back and yes he was her love interest. How would you feel about this version of the movie?
@SpiderkillersInc

@sailoranime289
@sailoranime289 7 месяцев назад
Apparently the script was changed multiple times and this was one of the plots before the movie went in production. The star guy getting turned back human was supposed to be a reference to beauty and the beast and The Emperor's New Groove. I don't know how much of this is true but the star Prince only got cursed because he used his magic for his own needs and never helped his people. Meanwhile the king and queen made their people rely on Magic too much which was supposed to be doing damage to them. The star Prince and the king and queen was supposed to mirror each other and the princess was in the middle because she doesn't rely on Magic as much. This version of the story was making the star Prince too much of a main character so they dropped it. They also release production art of the star Prince Being Human but because Disney doesn't believe in love anymore they scrapped the idea. Either way this version sounds way better than the one we got.

They had wonderful and beautiful original concepts that they tossed aside. Asha had a love interest in Starboy Earendel, who was a magical shapeshifting wishing star. 'At All Costs' was supposed to be a love song between Asha and Starboy. King Magnifico AND Queen Asha were supposed to be the first ever Evil Disney Power Couple. They would only allow wishes they found useful to be granted but then they would drain the magic from the wishes of people that were grand and could be a threat to their rule and power.

When I watched that movie "Wish", I saw ALL of these Wishes including the crushed ones RETURNING to these people who are selfish for demanding more. Not only GOOD Wishes returning, BAD Wishes are returning as well! That act can created many villains, selfish people, and angry mobs in the future! That would be a massive disaster! Gods, I can't wait to see how many years it took Fairy Godmother Asha finally approached Magic Mirror Magnifico and he will definitely said "I TOLD YOU SO" to her in the future! Wishes are actually two faces of a coin, it can go either to the right way or to the wrong way. King Magnifico got a good point about the vague ones. Humans aren't very good at saying specifically what they wants, they are also capable of twisting and changing their wishes. Wishes are based on their DESIRES, right? They are based on their emotions and thoughts, right? Humans are capable of acting on their WISHES - even with or without help of Magic. They can even go as far as AT ALL COSTS! One tiny pebble tossed in the lake. Once the first domino is toppled, it begins a chain reaction that travels down the line... or rather, several lines. Just like a firing neuron, the pulse of falling dominoes is an all-or-nothing event. Fairy Godmother Asha should have known Wishes aren't all rainbows and unicorns, they can be beautiful and deadly at same time.... Just like a certain red, tempting Apple.

I don't think Encanto not being comparable to Disney's grand scale adventure movies is a controversial opinion because Encanto intentionally isn't trying to be that. Also, "Encanto" is a family drama, sort of like all those V.C. Andrews novels, only with the magic as the real main character. In addition, the wider community, which lives in fear of Bruno, adds a lot of tension by laying on a lot of pressure. Their cardinal rule, even higher than "You shall not kill" is "We don't talk about B....!" 😨 Mirabel doesn't have to leave the house in order to have her >*serious*< big adventure.

Like all the rants from any fake Disney fan about the Wish movie I didn't care for, this video just proves besides Winnie the Pooh my favorite era of Disney called The Experimental Era (*Dinosaur,Atlantis etc.),Pixar,my favorite Disney movies from the Revival era like Bolt,Winnie the Pooh 2011,Wreck-It Ralph, and Pixar that it was Toon Disney,Toon Disney's action block called Jetix,Disney XD, and the non-remake live action Disney movies like TRON,Pirates of the Carribean, and The One and Only Ivan that made me a real Disney fan and not whatever some overrated classic crap like Pinocchio and Snow White, heck even that Seven Dwarfs spinoff on Disney XD I use to watch back in 2014 called The 7D was better than Snow White XD lmfao. Ok. First of all: Brother, I have no idea what you are talking about, *no one* is saying those movies you like are bad, I like Chicken Little! I think The Wild is a good movie, I also like every single movie you listed, and guess what else I like? Meet the Robinson, The Aristocats, and Disney’s 1993 Bonkers series, the latter one being considered one of the worse things Disney has ever made. This is the thing buddy, nostalgia is a really powerful thing, it’s why we keep going back to the wonderful movies we love, but guess what makes nostalgia originate in the first place? Nostalgia is defined as a “longing for a period in the past”, the movies you listed are great since they have messages that transcend time and space, Chicken Little? How anyone can reach greatness if they try hard enough. The Fox & The Hound? Friendship in unlikely places. Brother Bear? A story about forgiveness and letting go. Lilo & Stitch? Literally a story about overcoming grief! And the list goes on with the messaging, these movies are fun and amazing to watch because *A)* They are legit fun and *B)* They have a message that speaks and relates to the audience. You may not realise this but every single thing you watch that you like is probably trying to say something, like 9 out of 10 times movies, series and books are all saying something to the audience in its subtext or sometimes literally. Then we have this issue of… “fake elitist” term you used, like… do you even know what elitist means? I think you might be trying to say “armchair critics” and even if that was what you were trying to say I’d like to point out that the fact that you are obsessed with Disney and love most of their movies that does not make you a valid critic nor the one and only true Disney fan. Seriously, you are the one acting as an elitist with this statement, “Elitist (definition): demonstrating a superior attitude or behaviour associated with an elite” You also say you “wish that old Disney fans with their old life would get off your back and respect your preferences that have nothing to do with something old as Pinocchio”……. LMAO how old are you? Ten? The critic in this video brings up Mulan and The Lion King as examples of movies she likes, TLK is from the 94 and Mulan is from the 98, that’s 29 and 25 years old, if you think 25 is old then you are like 10. But you also talk about nostalgia? Nostalgia relates to the past! You’re bringing up contradicting points or maybe you’re a troll. Another very important point here, how could you call yourself a REAL Disney fan if you don’t understand what made Snow White great? Snow White is not great nor acclaimed because it has a great plot or anything, I’ll admit that I find that movie to be kind of boring, but the reason why it’s great is because it was revolutionary for it’s time, it is literally the first American fully animated film! Without Snow White your and my favourite Disney films wouldn’t exist, so let me tell you: have a little bit more respect for the “old” people. And last but not least, I love all the Disney movies you bring up here, and no, I am not a Pinocchio fan; but in the end you’re missing the point here, you love Disney movies, I love Disney movies, we all do. Regardless of era and times Disney was once what every company aspired to be, instead now we have “Wish”, a mediocre movie that tries to be great and profound but simply isn’t. Disney made great movies in the past but now that’s simply not the case, and we all see that now, so as true Disney fans we criticise this film and call it out for what it is: a cash grab. I wrote all this and I am still not sure if you’re a troll, part of me hopes you are.

@@danim.r2276 Well, I guess I might be bringing up contradicting points, and also I don't hate Snow White, I guess it's just I sorta enjoyed it's Disney XD spinoff of the seven dwarfs called The 7D more and also because I just didn't have the Nostalgia for it or the rest of the Golden Age movies of Disney like how I have for movies like Pixar,the other classic movies of Disney Winnie the Pooh (*Many Adventures and 2011),Fox and Hound,Jungle Book,the movies from both the Renaissance and Experimental eras,The Wild,Wreck-It Ralph,Big Hero 6,A Christmas Carol (2009), and the Live Action movies that aren't remakes like the Pirates of The Carribean trilogy.

In the end, the villain wasn't even weak, he was LAME! "This is the return of a true villain!" they trumpeted, and then we get a hybrid of the abused twist villain! WHY? It was just a waste of time to introduce a sympathetic guy if we knew from the start he was the evil guy! Even his transition to full power-crazy comes out of nowhere. Not to mention... SPOILER he gets defeated with a song. Guys, it can't get more humiliating than this! Te rest of the story is just business as usual. A totally unoriginal and forgettable cast, flat! You're right: Disney has definitely moved to children movies, not family, all-ages movies. it will never go back to its greatness if it keeps fearing talking to young and adults, instead of young and politicized groups!

It won't be that way for long. Yours truly is going to do everything in her power to make changes at Disney. It WILL go back to its greatness. No more woke nonsense, no more treating people like snowflakes, no more politics! I will create sure-fire blockbuster masterpieces that people of all ages will enjoy!

Disney could of done so much with wishes. Like the movie bedazzled. The main character wished to be married to his love interest, the genie granted that wish but with a twist. They weren't happy. The main charater wished to be rich with the love interest, the genie granted that but they were poor. King manifico should of done that cuz wishes always have loop holes.

The main problem is that people go in to it expecting something great only to come out disappointed and also hating it. People really need to relearn that WHEN YOU GO TO A MOVIE YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO LET GO OF ALL EXPECTATIONS BECAUSE IF YOU GO IN THINKING IT WILL BE BAD IT WILL BE BAD. However it is 50/50 on both Disney and the people. Disney should have kept quiet about it being the movie that celebrates the 100 year studio mark

I don't think Wish deserves all this hate. I've seen the movie, and it's not that bad. It's not bad, and it's not one of Disney's masterpieces, but it's honestly a good film, despite having some narrative imperfections, which in its simplicity it's an enjoyable film that manages to keep you glued to the screen for an hour and a half, however I would have kept some discarded concepts (such as Magnifico and Amaya as an evil couple and the love story between Asha and Star, who is a shape-shifting being who can transform into a human boy) which would have been interesting to see but overall it's a good film. Final rating of the film is: 7.5 /10

I don't see anything wrong in black people or gay people. I don't care what skin color or love interest they have, but I want the characters to be relatable and interesting

There are plenty of female POCs in Disney movies already (Jasmine, Pocahontas, Mulan, Esmeralda, Moana), and there have been since the early 90s - except they actually have personalities. They seem to be just trying to make money now by telling stories, not telling stories that just happen to make money. This appears to be nothing more than Disney trying to make money by appealing to the Woke Crowd to me. And I say this as a non-white person myself.

@@anastasiassecret3837 I think yall missed the point, Disney, like quite a lot of entertainment these days, will not look at this movie when it fails as their own fault, they wont look at the criticism of the audience and will instead do exactly as OP said they will focus on diversity/representation instead because they know that right now rep and diversity are a hot commodity that will get people in seats so they will ignore all the faults of this movie and instead add more rep/diversity to their next movie or blame their failures on bigots.
@Lesbiwolf92

@@anastasiassecret3837 It's not a dig at black people, why are you acting like people saying her being non white and DIsney attempting to try and cash in on non white people is black people being attacked? It is a legit thing you can see happening in a lot of western media, non whites/lgbt have become a tool to try and sell movies on and when movies fail the media giants don't look at themselves as the reason it failed and instead double down on either they didn't make the cast/crew the right minority or they blame it on bigots. It is pointing out the media companies have all but given up on producing genuinely good stories and characters because they can make just as much or even more by dangling the correct collection of keys in front of people. EDIT: also looking it up, she is supposed to be afro-latina
