Loved your video, I joined an adult ed class several years ago and I love it, I wish I'd done it years ago. I love to throw. Clay is relaxing and frustrating in equal measure but I love it and can't wait to go week on week, thanks for sharing your ideas x😊

Neat idea. Do take into consideration the difference in shrinkage rates of light and dark clay bodies.

I think you would really like to try Raku and other alternative firing methods . Very exciting and random ....Some control , but depending on the materials and temperature , things can get magical !

Very beautiful work. When my son was very young and we started gardening together most of our soil was clay! So...we dug out the clay, added new soil to plant our garden...and then we began working with clay. He liked it so much he took a few seasons worth of ceramic classes to add to our homeschooling schedule. Many years later and I still have all his pieces displayed around the house. Go Do Some Clay Art!!!

I think the cut out vases are your best work I have seen. Perfect day for this vid, as I am currently on a Sasquatch sculpt. But, WHEN are the Matt's dance lessons coming?

I find it very good that there are so many potteries in USA. Here it is hard to find and the ones that are there are schoolsystem. However when I was young a lot I'd years ago I had a friend who made a living put of potterie. So I helpt him a lot with his work. He had a huge oven and I learned all about coloring and shaping etc. That was very fun. Now I make beads out of clay. And out of polymer ovenbaked clay. The polymer clay doesn't give that sentiment, but make sturdy beads. Clay beads are more fragile.... just taking a piece of earthy clay... the smell, the feeling in my hands... it still gives me a good feeling... but I have to let it dry in the air. Don't have an oven. And if I make beads, I have to go 2 town further to find myself an oven... and it's very expensive to let them bake... One day I will try to bake them in the ground. You know, the old way... it's scary because you never know if they will survive. Anyhow... do you bake your stuff? And then color your pieces?

Wow man, outta sight. Too RAD-iculous. I had to slow down the play-back speed to 0.75! You make it all look so easy. Does the clay stay together like that on it's own, like when you pick up a "sheet" and it doesn't fall apart, is that because it's been smooshed and rolled and not too wet or too dry? Or, does it take years of practice? 🤷🤩👍 Whatever, you got it goin-own, Mattman. I'm so glad for you that you have a studio like you've wanted for so long. I hope you get to do all the neat-O-kean rad cool far-out stuff you want to do 🐒. Luv ya man. Later 🐊

it's cool but equipment looks expensive, would you have an alternative to a big kiln like that? a friend of mine said she would put hers in a fire pit, but I have no clue, I have a very small kiln but don't know much about working it yet, still got some other stuff I have to make for people so it will be a while, I would love to do this though... :)

Have you made any beads yet? Those scraps and empty spaces in the kiln could be tiny works of art.
