Editing is arguably the most important aspect of filmmaking. It dictates the whole feel and flow and style of the film. It's pretty incredible what one can achieve solely through the power of editing.
I think every department is going to defend their position haha Every single one has to be good to make a good film, you need a good writer, good director, good DOP, art department ..etc through out a production, and then in post, more departments from edit, vfx, cc , sound and so on!!! I would only argue that some have way more troubles and time than others! But a good ship needs to have a good overhaul team in every single one.
@@paul_et haha, this video looked like a gawx thumbnail for sure, so i clicked on it to see, idk what I was expecting but this video was just majestic. Thank you.

@@Naamex at this point no one can answer my question. Of course music is important, as it is the script, the edit, the lens work, as framing-blocking, art direction, film stock, dressing, hair and make up, acting, and so on, that´s obvious. But can you answer my question? If you mute the music of this, what emotions transmits? I really like this works, more for the blocking/editing than for the scoring, so, this is why i´m wondering what happens if you mute it.
@@colleagueriley860 Not really. If anything it shows how essential editing is in storytelling. Some like this kind of cinematic storytelling. Others might dislike it and could argue a more fitting way to tell the story is through a shitpost.
@@StickThisUpYourAnus the fact that some people like art and some people don’t doesn’t make art subjective. Art is a representation of the artists values so if you like certain art it says something about your values. Not only that, but if someone has anti-life values, then his art will show it and be objectively bad. Some people might still like it, and that say something bad about them too.
@@RealMrMizter Hmmm. But what you view as good art, someone else may view as bad art, and vice versa. If art is subjective, and there really is good art and bad art, who's to say what's good or bad? I think that art can be considered generally good or bad as perceived by the wide majority of people, like this, for example. I think most would agree that the Mona Lisa is better art than this Shrek, but there may be someone who genuinely disagrees.
The way you used editing to make the audience feel stressed out and tense although nothing happens was a clever display of the power of editing! Good work! although you must admit that the music played an equally large role here...
Editing, camera work with the angles and the focused zoom, sound design with the bg music and sound effects, build up of tension and the way the music fit perfectly to make the pace feel faster and faster, very dramatic angled lighting also increasing the sense of tension and urgency, and probably more - So much went into this, true masterpiece!
@@paul_et real talk bro! You’re videos are more informative than any other film style stuff I’ve seen on the tube. You really engage the audience and it doesn’t feel like a film lesson but you leave the video learning so much! Honestly please keep the videos coming man! Like I didn’t even know manually adjusting the focus was a thing when filming haha or how impactful in camera action can really be! My style of content is literally in a small niche on RU-vid but I love the idea incorporating filmmaking techniques to it! Again man love you content! I’m a big fan G 👊🏻
Mix matching a bunch of pixels with the best appropriate sound while staring in a display is truly a work of art. I really liked this, shows the power of editing.
Awesome work Paul, fantastic editing and surprise ending! You inspire me to learn and be better at the craft! You uplifted me after a really bad night at work!
My favorite part is that this can optionally be interpreted as saying (among other meanings) that art doesn't have to be conventionally "great" to be special and meaningful to make, or to be worthy of great celebration.
i was just making a clay shrek today and before you showed the final result, i was thinking "imagine if he drawing shrek, that would be funny and coincidence"
As an unprofessional editor, it's not just an editing that does the magic. The choice of music, the frames, and everything that touches the sense palette. Then comes the magic of editing 😂
1:11 Yes! I knew it! I alr expected a funny art at the end of the video because that's literally the point on the importance of video editing-done well. With this video, the art automatically turned from mediocre to a masterpiece complete with a chef kiss 🧑🍳👌
The power of editing ,no matter what you make but represents it in a very interesting way, love your work Man I'll consider this as now one of my inspiration
Topic of this video is editing and that was really bang on but I really liked the shots taken to teach the power of editing... Not a single camera angle was repeated... Awesome man... I became your fan....
Hi Paul,I really like your videos. Congratulations. This one turned out great too. However, while I was watching, I couldn't help but laugh because, despite the editing of your video making you look like a true professional, in this case, the lines you draw in the video give you away. Those who know drawing techniques can see the insecurity and fragility of the lines you're drawing, even though the intention of how you edited the video was to persuade your viewers that the final art would be professional. I hope you understand what I mean. Sending you a hug, and in editing, you are one of the best, and in concepts, one of the most creative. Keep going!
