For the magician, knowledge is power, For the sage, knowledge is understanding. Magician is impassioned, Sage is detached. Magician lives in the world of mental and emotional forces behind the apparent world, Sage lives beyond the mind. Magician is the potential beginning, sage is the ripe end. Higher magician comes after the sage, when one realises one’s oneness with Universe and remembers why one created the Universe as it is, and thus loses the need for change. If any action comes from them, it is often subtle and mundane, with massive ripple effects, eg. a kind word to the right person at the right time, or, friendship with a humble hobbit in the shire, which leads that hobbit to undertake the hazardous joyrney to destroy the One Ring which threatened the world.
