Very interesting. In Australia when we play Pennants it is stipulated in The Conditions of Play there are dead ends, if the Jack is moved Out Of Bounds. In Social interclub comps, where the COP states NO DEAD ENDS, the Jack MUST be respotted at the T, which is always marked whether on grass or carpet. That is why back bowls behind the Jack are valuable. We do not have the multi respott rule. All rinks have lines at each end, signalling where the mat should be placed legally. There are usually 4 lines corresponding to the colour line we are bowling on week to week. Fascinating the variation.
Thanks Alec. I enjoyed your video. I am a Scottish expat living in California and bowl in Laguna Beach. We have two outdoor greens overlooking the ocean. I would encourage yourself and any other bowlers in the UK to look us up and maybe plan a trip to California to play. We would love to have you visit. I had a question about indoor greens. In our outdoor greens we are constantly moving the rink numbers side to side to avoid wear in a particular rink line. Do they not have to do this in the indoor greens? It looks like each rink is permanently in the same spot. Tx, Bill
@@cigarboxguitar9519 Hi Bill, it sounds lovely where you are. Yes, if I am ever near your club I would happily have a game, unlikely but you never know. With regard to rink markings, we also move the rink markers daily at my outdoor club, but indoors they are never moved. I don’t know of a club that does move them, possibly due to the fact that the carpet does not wear out, although you would think it would. Also, all carpets can only be bowled in one direction as the joins (seams) are across the green, so it does not affect the bowl. I hope this answers your question. Thanks
We play indoor at my club Mount Gravatt in Brisbane,Queensland. We play from a different line each week to save wearing the carpet. All indoor clubs in Australia do this.
@@kieranosullivan445 that is interesting. I never knew that so you learn something every day. I would love to visit Oz one day and if I do I will definitely have a go on your very fast surfaces. 👍
Hi Alec, this is Edmond from Hong Kong. I am a beginner and started a bowls class in Sep 2024. I really enjoy this sport and want to spend more of my time to learn and practise. Having watched almost all your videos ( just finished #34 [which you posted in Aug 2024] today 😊), I would like to see if you have (will have) more new videos to be shared. Also, I would appreciate it if you can tell in one of your coming videos how I can find the line (as a beginner) in an indoor (carpet) rink as we cannot see any signs or marks on the ground (unlike the ground of the outdoor real grass rink). Thanks
