This video is carrying on where I left off from the 'All about Touchers' vid. I go through the Laws of the Game of Bowls covering dead bowls and jacks, plus live jacks, using the latest rule book and explain the rules as I go along.
Alec.

I have just found your videos, and they have clarifyed some points for me. I have done a markers course, but havent played for two years due to knee ops and injuries, and had forgotten some of what I learnt. I am now back on the green Marking, but not yet able to play in a team [I broke my wrist] at least I can now get some revision done and your videos are a great help. Thank you.

Many thanks Alec for another very useful video. Great to see you are still making them and I am looking forward to something from you on indoor bowls particularly as I am intending to play indoors this winter. The summer season has also finished at Didcot and I have played in a dozen or so friendlies for the club as well as regular Monday roll ups. Your series has been very beneficial this year as I have been learning the game. I would love to see something from you on tactics and reading the head next season. All the best of luck for your winter season.

Thanks Chris. It sounds like you have had a good first season. Yes, indoors is quite different, much faster and a wider line because of that. You soon get used to it though. Thanks again for your comments.

Alec - thanks for another great video. It's been great weather outdoors this season. This is the first week of indoor bowling for me and I've already played four matches . . . . Hope you enjoy your indoor season

Hello Alec thank you for another great video and helpful information for any future bowls games of mine. I am delighted to tell that you have inspired me into joining my local club, but I do stand out a bit as I’m only 14. Sadly I joined at the end of the bowls season but have been accepted by the community. Looking forward to any future videos. :)

And thanks again Alec for another great Video! Andy (Portland Victoria Bowls Club / Dorset)

Fantastic! I hope you enjoy the game. I am sure you will get lots of help as we need to encourage younger people to play. The new season will soon be on us, time seems to fly. Keep in touch.

Alec - how are you ? My club has had a quite successful indoor season and we are all looking forward to the new outdoor season. Our club's opening day is 15th April. That got me thinking that a pre-season Lawn Bowls for Fun episode would be useful. It could cover a variety of items - I'm sure that you will include a few.

Thanks for the suggestion. I am editing a video right now, but if I get time maybe I will try that. I appreciate the idea. :)

Hi Alec haven’t seen a video from u in a while! I am a pennant player in my second season and I am a lead I just get confused about short mat lengths! Here in Australia our shortest length is 21mtrs. But when ppl but the mat just short of the marker on the bank. And roll the jack just short what they do after to check the length before a tape is used. Step out meters from the tee line to the jack then the other person steps out from the mat to the marker on the bank say a quarter of the way up. I’m just confused with that they do it to avoid a tape ofcourse

Hello again Dean, In an important game, there is no option other than to get the tape out, as pacing is not accurate. In a friendly, most people are more flexible, but even then, if there is doubt, a tape should be used. In addition to that, I often see mats placed just short of the 2 metre mark which should not be allowed, even if the jack is sent a legal distance, the front of the mat must be at least 2 metres from the ditch, but some players either don't know it is an illegal mat or are careless. Any problem should be sorted before the first bowl has been delivered of course, as once it is on its way the game continues even if the mat or jack are at illegal length.

Great info as always Alec....can you just clarify one thing for me. At 16:10 on the video you mention about re-spotting the jack to the left or right spot on an indoor rink after its gone outside the rink boundary. Can I assume from this that its impossible to kill an end indoors as you can in lawn bowls?
@LawnBowlsforFun
@LawnBowlsforFun Год назад
Correct Dave, you cannot kill and end on a limited time game indoors, so most indoor leagues use that rule, but on some 21 end games the rule may still be as normal, where you can kill the end. It is always best to check the league rules for clarification. All the domestic leagues at my indoor club use re-spots, so no dead ends.

@@LawnBowlsforFun Thanks for the prompt reply. We had an instance of that happening last week and gave away 5 points because of it but we were not sure of the ruling. Many thanks for the clarification.
