Yes. I have been able to plug my computer and later on, iPad into the project and show relevant precedents as I am teaching in studio to show everyone the similarities or possibilities.

Yes that’s a great idea. Also don’t forget that the tutor is also reacting to what they just saw and have to say something on the top of their heads. That’s why having clarity of thoughts and communication (both verbal and in drawings) helps a lot. I am in favour of having a facebook group page for the studio and continuing the conversations in the studio there. That way students can post up their progress (before they decide to do a huge 180 degree change especially and waste a lot of time doing so), and gives everyone time to read, look, dissect, think before replying as well. And instead of students writing down a whole friggen essay, I tell them to boil it down to only 5 max keywords/phrases in architectural moves and then explain why those moves.

Wow that’s quite a quote. Probably a bit difficult to make a video on haha.

@@Archimarathon You should see the video of their Blazing Wing project, there's your thing. I remember reading this in the 80s, then seeing Wolf Prix struggle through an angry, brilliant pub talk in Perth, gold.

Yes. But very easily get sidetracked, especially when there is a team involved. A lot of communication is required so that everyone is on the same page.

Do we need a podcast when we have our weekly RU-vid episodes? I have been using facebook groups for studios since 2009. I know some universities prohibit the use of facebook as part of teaching. I know this personally.

Archimarathon it’s such a great idea so far why not spread onto other platforms? I do enjoy the channel and the knowledge every week though so keep up the good work :) Hopefully lockdown doesn’t stop the videos!

RU-vid is THE MAIN THING we are trying to grow. There is only so much energy and time to spend. In regards to lockdown, so far ok. We are doing “work that cannot be done from home” and we are out in open spaces doing our daily exercise

Yes indeed. The quote from Stephen Covey wasn’t originally intended for architecture or design, but on life in general. We are more distracted than ever before so we really need to apply our critical thinking and analytical mind to work out what we are doing and how to pay attention to the right things in your hierarchy of importance.

I agree regarding presentations. There are lots of students and even practitioners who are not very clear communicators, or the design itself might be muddled. To question what is ‘the main thing’ helps clarify for yourself first and foremost, before being able to communicate it in all levels, through design and presentation efforts.

I believe so yes. You cannot solve everything and your budget only goes so far. You need to work out the hierarchy of your design proposal and make the main thing worthwhile
