Sorry that my focus is hot garbage for the first half of this video ! New camera + bad eyesight means I couldn't tell how bad it looked in the tiny view finder :(

If one doesn't bleed on their project, can one actually claim it as their own? That turned out nice and 'bounce-proof'. The green pinafore is super cute. Thanks for the tips and tricks.

I have recently jammed a needle right under my thumbnail 😭 I hope it was helpful for your similar projects in the future!

Thank you so much for this video. I recently came into a second-hand batch of wool suiting. Including quite a few yards of buttered yellow that seems destined to become a kirtle. So 38FF me deeply, deeply appreciate all of your work. Well done! - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi

They sounds perfect! I'm sure your kirtle will look beautiful. And I definitely encourage you to check out some of the other videos I linked in the description! Latina's Living History in particular is a busy historical costumer and she made a cupped version of a supportive shift, which may be more to your liking.

Following up now that I finished the video - I loved seeing the end result! The compression actually works quick nicely and since it doesn't cinch completely right on the ribcage (like where it would be wrapped in a sports bra), it is probably much more comfortable than the modern versions I wear while still holding the lady mounds in nicely.

Nice vid, thanks; I'm nearsighted, so it looked normal to me. :-) You know those heavy woven cotton place mats from India that are (or were) all over the thrift shops? Well, I found a bright green one that was a table runner, and just the right length to go around my middle, with enough to fold over for lacing. I tried it in front of the mirror, and sadly I'm still lumpy, but I think it could be done. There were also some lighter green regular place mats that might work for a basic bodice; I'm just concerned they might fall apart when cut. Do you know if anyone's done it? It's hard to get the search terms right.

I've recycled some home textiles before, but never placemats or runners. You'd probably need to finish off the edges pretty securely to prevent fraying.

The Lengberg bra was a skirted bra and did not squoosh anything. It had individual cups, like modern bras, not sports bras. It did not function without a skirt attached the women actually used and wore thier reconstructions to determine functionality etc. The Lengberg bra also had corset like laces on either side since elastic did not exist. There are actually women who made replicas of them and are now making patterns (pattern link) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rEULAmcAuZM.html (link to entire live stream about more than just the bra but underwear and dresses) Cdc.gov/diseasesconditions/index.html (link to bra, a few minutes in is the reconstruction) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LGg8xbUVXT4.html They don't call the Lengberg bra a "shift" because it isn't, it is a cupped bra that had a skirt attached (skirted bra) and according to the woman (Rachel Case I think her name was) it was 7 pounds of linen to wear.

If you look at the video description, I link to some info and videos about cupped medieval bras. I simply choose to do something different that is also historically adequate based on art evidence,, but it's 100%linen, as mentioned in the video, with side lacing, similar to the Lengberg bra. No elastic... And that's why I specify that I made a supportive shift, not a replica Lengberg bra.
