Something that isn't talked about is how perfect the soundtrack fits this movie as well. So many of the songs in this I associate with this movie alone.
Loved when Lloyd trades the van and Harry replies " when I don't think you couldn't get any dumber, you go ahead and do something like that...... And totally redeem yourself"
My dad was a mostly serious and unhappy man for a lot of my adolescent and teen years. We watched this movie together and it was the hardest and longest I've ever heard him laugh; then and now!
@@skipads5141Didn't Charles Rocket play the post commander on Dances with Wolves? And I find it odd that Charles Rocket was in a movie with someone who auditioned to be in the same Saturday Night Live cast as him (Jim Carrey auditioned to be on SNL in 1980, but didn't make it. He also auditioned for the 1985-1986 cast, but bailed when he saw a jumper on the roof of the 30 Rock building).
Sea Bass is one of those characters that appeared less than 5 minutes total in the movie but got embedded into cinema history forever. It's so great to have characters like that.
Sea Bass is Cam Nealy? Hockey Player. I wrote the screenplay to Fire Marshall Bill in 2013. Been to Conundrum, and C.A.A. Had one copy. Awesome movie. Wish it could be!😥
The best joke in Dumb and Dumber: "I'll bet you 20 bucks I can get you gambling by the end of the day." "Nuh-uh." ............ "I don't know how, but I'm gonna get ya."
My dad showed me this movie when I was 8 years old and I instantly fell in love with it. Now I’m 19 and can quote almost every line in the movie. Truly the best comedy ever made.
This is a movie that you can watch over and over again and never grow tired of. While Jim Carey is the comedian, the Jeff Daniel's toilet scene had me in tears. One of cinema's greatest comedy moments! "I hope you're not using the toilet... it's broken!"
One of the first movies I was allowed to see as a kid without parents with just my friends. My friend Lee laughed so hard during the fantasy restaurant fight scene that he fell forward out of his seat and because he had the end of aisle chair he fell down about 4 or 5 steps into the aisle opposite a few rows down, all whilst still laughing and rather embarrassingly snot all down his nose. Ah to be young in the 90's again
The "No, and I don't CAAARE" is something I feel in my bones lol. I try to mimic it as often as possible. This movie is truly one of the funniest movies ever made. I wish I could back and see it again for the first time. I about died watching it. This and Tropic Thunder are simply brilliant movies about dumb people.
I am 51 and 20+ years later my friends an I still use lines from this move. I have easily seen it 30 times over the years, hotel rooms, beer nights, with the kids. Its a classic. Thanks for making it.
“I like it ALOT”… still to this day I catch myself saying this if my wife asks if the meal she cooked was good or after a movie I liked. “Mock.. yeah… ing… yeah… bird… yeah… yeah… yeah.” Still sing this song to this day whether in my head or just trying to be funny. This movie truly was ground breaking and timeless.
I'm 39 and my brother and sister are 31. Every time we get together, it's just a tirade of Dumb & Dumber quotes. This movie will always have a special place in our hearts. ❤❤❤
I still remember seeing this in 1994 at a packed movie theater and everyone was laughing their eyes out to the max. 1994 was a great year and this movie was absolutely awesome.
I know this is a crime…but that is the only scene that made me uncomfortable. I just didn’t think it was funny to throw a snow ball at anyone’s face like that. Any one else feel the same way?
My buddies and i still reference this movie, cable guy, and ace ventura every single time we talk… who would have know that back then when we were 10-12 watching these movies, that was going to set a theme for the rest of our lives… god i miss those days… its funny to think of how much of an impact this by movie has had… this morning i was taking my 10 year old son to school, and he was in the front seat pretending he was “running at incredible speeds” while i was driving, like how jim carey did, and saying lines of the movie to my daughter in the back seat lol
This is my all time most favorite “stupid funny” movie of all time. I could watch it over & over again & never get sick of it. It’s comedic perfection & is Jim Carey at his best
This movie helped me get through high school, and the chaos of life. I have never laughed so hard. Absolutely ridiculous and brilliant. Jeff and Jim were perfect for this movie. Comedy gold 😂
and people saying faith is not important.. this movie wouldn't come out without faith lol. I believe in GOD, I believe in good talented people, I believe my love, I believe my kid, I believe in me, I believe in you. Hugs.
I had a VHS tape that had both The Mask and Dumb & Dumber on it, back in the day. Not a recorded one, a store-bought one. And I watched that baby so many times I couldn't even tell you. Mask is still my favorite, but Dumb & Dumber was not far behind. Doesn't matter how smart you are, if you can't laugh at something as goofy as Dumb & Dumber, you've lose the sparkle in your eyes.
i saw it as a kid at the cinema, then bought the tape (from my lunch money which i saved for couple of days) while it was on sale at blockbuster video store for 9$.. me and my best friend watched it every day after school at least 2 times in a row while my parents were at work..good old vhs..while tape was rewinding we had enough time to take a piss and a new pepsi.. i dont know how often i saw it back in the days..possible 200+ times..and i laughed everytime at the same scenes..watched it last week again after about 15+ yrs and still laughing at the same scenes.. this movie is pure gold
Me and my best friend used to imitate scenes from Dumb & Dumber and laugh our tails off!!!!! Her favorite was the scene when the the two guys were wearing the tuxedos lol...She passed away in 2012, but I still watch it and I'd like to think that she is watching it with me in spirit.
So you’re saying there’s a chance … is just philosophically so positive and encouraging, which is a theme of the movie. It’s dumb but without being condescending or cynical. Genius.
My friend and I got to say this to two girls and a guy walking the guy was in the middle with his arms around them we were outside a local bar and it couldn't of been a better moment needless to say they all laughed their ass off once I said yeah he must work out!
I remember my homeroom teacher told us in the class that this was her favourite movie. That was 20 years ago. No other comedy movie compares to this, the script is funny yes, but this is much more than that. The way it never gets old, makes me feel that Dumb and Dumber is alive. It's 2022 now, and trust me most people don't have a clue what kind of a classic this will be in the future.
I once printed the entire script in 8th grade and for two weeks my lunch table literally did a table reading. I used up all of my mom's printer ink but it was totally worth it lol
@@nsasupporter7557 You don't need to compare them. That's something that people with no mind of their own do. Totally different duo and both are amazing.
@@vandamme6379 says who, The guy who doesn’t wanna accept or respect other’s opinions? I have a mind of my own which is why I think that Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels as a duo blows Chris Farley and David Spade as a duo outta the water. I have a different opinion which explains that i have a mind of my own, see how that works? 😱 The people who don’t have a mind of their own just agrees with others because they’re scared of being shunned for having a different opinion and that’s definitely not me 😉 There was nothing special about Farley or Spade… Tommy Boy and Black Sheep were practically the same movie 🙄
Lloyd asks the little old lady in the wheelchair to watch his two cases of Coors Light and some pinwheels while he goes back inside to make change. “Hey. I guess they’re right! Senior Citizens, although slow and dangerous behind the wheel can serve a purpose. I’ll be back, don’t you go dyin’ on me” 😂
I'll concentrate on Jeff's final three words.. "Funny is funny". It's a blessing that this comedy was produced and filmed, through all the obstacles. I think it was the combination of talent, deep thinking, luck and some people's real dedication to make it happen. And everything fell into place.
Remember when this came out. Me and my best friend went Friday Saturday and Sunday. Until it was out of the theaters, we used to be able to recite every word for word
This is the greatest comedy of all time. Masterpiece. I watch it every few months for the rest of my life. Classic I love the map schene. How much further do we gotta go ??.about an inch an half
When the Snowball Scene happened, while watching on opening night with a friend from high-school, I laughed so hard I physically exhausted my self and peed a little. I almost ended up on my knees. Dunno Why I liked that scene the most, I guess the element of surprise and the timing of it was perfect.
My brother went to see this seven times in the theater with his friends. I had just started college and had not been able to go see it with him. When I finally saw it for the first time, it was with him, and we laughed so hard we cried. We still laugh when we watch it today, and our mom still thinks it’s dumb as can be. But our dad gets it.
All time favorite comedy. The dialogue from this movie, once memorized through repetitive viewing, can be applied to every aspect of everyday life. Thank you Pharley bros and everyone involved in this film. I love you guys🙏❤️
My cousin James is wicked smart scholastically. On X-mas eve we all went to see a movie at the theater. My cousin Vicki and I wanted to see D&Der. James insisted we see a foreign film because he only watches movies with subtitles. He lost 2 to 1. As the lights dimmed he was still stating, “I can’t believe you are going to make me watch this!” Soon Vicki and I are laughing hysterically and I notice James laughing here and there. Then at one point we were all laughing so hard we were in tears. Then a snot bubble comes out of James’ nose! Now our sides are splitting and we’re trying to not laugh gasping for air! It was like we were little kids again! We don’t say anything walking to the car because our laugh muscles are still reeling. It even hurts to smile. We get in the car and James says, “I can’t believe you guys made me watch that.”
It was a joy to show this movie to my 12 year old son. It was like watching it again for the first time through my son's eyes. My son could not stop laughing at the grinding of the toenails scene it was simply the best for him.
I live(d) in a tiny village in the Scottish highlands and back in the 90s and early 2000s the only way to see movies was to rent them on VHS from our little shop. I remember being 17 and watching this when it was released - it made me laugh more than any film I’d seen up til then. I still love it and anything the Farrelly Brothers make is fantastic ❤
I do agree, but at the same time I find these 90s comedies end up with the odd scene or two that just doesn't age well. Not offensive or anything silly, just cringeness here and there. I rewatched Major Payne recently and boy, it's got a few.
As far as the Providence exterior scenes, the Sheepdog Van really was on Providence highways(RI-146 North & I-95 South). The Limo was driving down South Main St. in Providence, while it was under major construction in the opening credits. The airport scene was shot at Salt Lake City International Airport. Jim and Jeff never were in Providence during the movie.
I remember the first time watching this movie, I don't think I ever laughed so much in my life, it got to the point that my stomach started hurting and my tears were coming out of laughing so much... one of the best comedy movies I have ever seen..
Amazing story of faith beating systematic rejection- like Elf,-another gem. So many folks have lost their sense of play. Great line by Jeff Daniels: "the last time I looked, the greeks were holding up two masks- Tragedy and comedy should be balanced. " Well that movie restored the balance for a few years all on its own.
ive seen this movie well over 500 times lol. it never gets old. i used to put it in my DVD player and just have it playing when id go to sleep. movie still makes me laugh to this day.
I’ve heard it said many times that comedic acting is actually the most difficult to pull off, so major props to Jeff Daniels for pulling this roll off ( a testament to his talent) and of course to the inimitable Jim Carrey.
