In the parting shot, Vincent knows he found his equal and that he'll never witness such a crew again in his career. It was his peak moment and now it's over. He respects Neil and he's kind of sad it ended like it did. His psyche will never be the same afterwards. Moby's music is phenomenal in this scene. I always loved the soundtrack. At times you can hear gentle electric guitar notes with echo without sounding totally cliché. It's also a love letter to Los Angeles. Just like in Collateral, it's the perfect urban setting. Almost a character in itself. I remember being fascinated by Heat as a young adult and with RU-vid, I see how scrutinous people are with this movie now and it brings me joy.

I remember when my friends and I were on our way to see Pulp Fiction in Dec 1994, we decided to stop at a store to get some things...So I decided to look through the magazines and I literally lost my mind when I first found out that De Niro and Pacino were re-uniting for a crime film called "Heat" in a magazine called "Movieline". Keanu Reeves' name was also listed with them but later dropped out and the role went to Val Kilmer. At that time I was a HUGE De Niro/Pacino fan who grew up in the 80s watching films like Godfather, Raging Bull, Scarface, Goodfellas, Carlitos Way etc I had been already exited about De Niro, Pesci and Scorsese reuniting for Casino and now this..?? Funny story, the tower where he buys the bank contract and that house that Trejo gets killed, are 1/2 a mile apart and in the middle is the bridge where Jamie Foxx throws Vincent’s briefcase over in Collateral. That bridge is 100 yards from an elementary school. Harrison Elementary, where I attended. During the filming of Heat, they parked ALL the trailers in the Recess yard. I hated that because we didn’t have recess for 3 weeks and had to get our food and go to class. Hell for a kid that lived a breathed kickball…lol

I was at the main public library in downtown L.A., when Mann was filming the bank robbery shootout one weekend. I only heard it. I didn't see anyone. A security guard had told me what was going on. The gunfire was loud and insane.

One thing is sure, Al Pacino would never accept even to see De Niro's face from 100 meters away, today.

Not a greenscreen in sight
@Nils471
@Nils471 4 месяца назад
I actually noticed that one scene had a green screen feel to it where the silhouettes were a bit too sharp compared to the background and felt composited. Then from IMDB, I learned that "for the sequence where Neil and Eady discuss a possible future together on a terrace at night, to capture the background "nightscape" with some degree of prominence in the shot, the actors were first filmed in front of a green screen, which was placed at the actual terrace, and the background was then filmed separately with the camera running at 3 frames per second in order to boost the exposure level to better complement the foreground activity."

I've watched this masterpiece many times. But, Pacino only made $5 million, while De Niro made millions more. Both were pros. Both are fantastic actors. They were each other twins. They should have been paid equally.

Michael Mann was an incredible director. Small body of work, but some were truly special. 53:44 yes! I loved that song in that moment!

"Was" an incredible director? He's not dead lol 😂In fact, Heat 2 (which is apparently mostly a prequel but also will have sequel parts) has been in development for a while, is supposed to shoot this year, and will hopefully be released in 2025.

It's a really amazing movie. It didn't really hit me at the time how iconic it was. I never watched Miami Vice as a kid and didn't know enough about Pacino or Dinero to understand how legendary just the two of them sharing the same scene was. But I definitely enjoyed it upon first watch

I still don't get how people gets 'Heat' and not Miami Vice. I think the 2006 movie was a visual masterpiece. Could rewatch both of those movies any time. So watch Miami Vice! An awesome movie!

I vividly remember watching the first scene of Heat when I was way too young to be watching such a film. When Waingro puts down the guard who has been deafened by the blast and they end up killing them all in their ski masks. It was the first time I’d seen proper adult violence and the 10 year old voice in my head was like what the f*** is this shit!? Haha 22 years later, still my favourite film

I’ve seen this movie a bunch of times and what makes it great is it’s a character study and it also tells the story of a city and the different kinds of people, good and bad, who live in it, and needless to say the acting by the ensemble cast was great, towards the end you almost hope Mcauley gets away and your sad as he reaches up his hand to hold Hannah’s in his last moments, like at the end he realized he needed human connections after all, great flick!

Hollywood should leave "Heat" alone. I've heard that Michael Mann works on a sequel...maybe that could work as well, if he films it as a third act to the then thematic trilogy of "Heat", "Collateral" and this hypothetical sequel to "Heat".
