Melvyn Bragg and BBC producer Thomas Morris talk to Piers Plowright about "In Our Time". Filmed at Burgh House as part of the 2014 Hampstead Arts Festival.
I can't over emphasise how much love and respect I have for this series..I only regret that it is not included in the school curriculum.. I am sure kids...teenager's would respond why ? they have life and aren't yet dead....
Very interesting point about teaching academics. There are a lot of brilliant academics who aren't necessarily able to communicate their work verbally all too well, I've always wondered how IOT always manages to get articulate academics on, week after week.
It's the only thing by the BBC that can justify any of the licence fee. It's factual, informative and doesn't suffer from an extreme left-wing political bias.
I enjoy the series. The host really does try to create an honest dialogue. Some of the guests are obviously biased but they do try to balance the guests perspectives and get to critical questions.
haha, not enough women in it but you choose people for quality! was the microphone placed specifically to get the interventions of the squeaky chair and random doorbells?
1 second beat: "Hello. In 1789 the storming of the Bastille ushered in the French Revolution, it was to have profound and lasting effects on European society..."😲
