I have watched this drama several times and can honestly say that it is the best TV I’ve ever seen, not only because it’s so well made and the actors are fantastic but because it bought this woeful true story to the masses and raised awareness to such a brilliant level. Thank you, thank you.

I have watched this true story a few times and have followed the inquiry for over a year now but "Mr Bates and the Post Office" brought it to life. Thank you for all the hard work of everyone involved and the brilliant performances of the cast.

The lives of so many ordinary people and the extraordinary true story made this unmissable. May everyone involved receive the compensation they deserve. It will never be enough for the dreadful traumas that unfolded. I am now watching, every day, the Post Office Inquiry and my thoughts are with the Post Masters and Post Mistresses. This inquiry must also warrant a mini series presenting the diligent Barristers,Lawyers, Sir Wyn Williams and associates who are involved in the inquiry. Justice will be done.

This program aired in the US as part of Masterpiece Theater, a series which has only a niche following, but brings us such great British Drama as Downton Abbey. To watch it on Sunday evening at 9pm, one must have nothing better to do or a curiosity about what will come next from the UK. The story, and it’s presentation, resonated with the common person as the plight of the underdog. It was enraging to see how the great institutions we once revered have been overtaken by the ambitious and incompetent, who have no regard for the effect their actions have on human beings. It was, and still is, a glimmer of hope for ordinary people that justice can be done - even though it has taken the better part of two decades to come about. Do not underestimate the value of this drama in making that happen. The story seems to have been out for years, but never had the support of the public until the story was told in a relatable way.

I can give an idea of why this programme was watched. The majority of British society would choose a programme about “ordinary people” over Traitors and Tourist. There is still a strand of society that grew up on the Wednesday Play and the likes of Kathy come Home which led to the formation of the charity Shelter. My husband chose it first on that night. He had read Nick Wallis’ book but for me it was reinforced by the actors in it. We know them as sincerely on the side of the “ordinary man”. And as a country ordinary people care about fair play and given the opportunity we show it. What happened on tv that night should be happening in Parliament every day

Can i interest you in a Prequel ? 1997 - 2003 ? My custodial was sought on Sept 10th 2004 Sheffield court but the judge decided on a restraining order. They are pretty easy when you werent guilty of the act in the first place, Cease and desist from what never occurred was a walk in the park but had the custodial been granted then i may have gotten to meet Andy Malkinson

I was the trial run for Lee Castleton but i have a S Yorks postcode and the police were paid for by Mandy Talbot and ensured the evidence available from embarrassed Post Office counsel was never recovered, Ian Groom Paradise Chambers Sheffield 1 with CWU solicitors representing Post Office having accessed police provided evidence for civil case topped off by wrongly addressed summons to ensure Magna Carta breach and denial of a defence, (Sheffield court Sept 10th 2004)

RE the interviewer's question - 'Why ITV and not BBC?' - there may be an additional reason in that the BBC might have received pressure and threats (Licence fee, etc) from POL's "owner" (HM Government) that to take on such a volatile issue would have been corporate suicide.

@@TellyCastTV Im still under the radar as victim number 1 with identical journey to Lee Castleton with one minor difference of access to Philips procedure approved by my union of 21 years CWU. Still unaware of reason for membership termination where Lee Castleton was refused membership, 1296 K W Simmons Sheffield AMAL, I believe i hold the title of event number 1 and will provide evidential docs relevant to Hillsbrough Co Op Post Office franchise and David Blunkett support for Post Office,

According to local press (Sheffield Star) this is still occuring at Banner Cross Post Office Sheffield 11 - great storyline available for investigator learning his tools of the trade in S Yorks police in a previous life and an unsolved headlining crime inside Ecclesfield police station from 1977 - Whodunnit where the perpetrator and victim are both police and the detection by police doesnt solve the crime inside a police only area ? almost a mysterious as who killed Jill Dando.
