People sometimes say SNL is a bad show because it’s “hit or miss”. Videos like this remind us that SNL is one of the most difficult shows to produce for a variety of reasons. It’s done in a week, it’s all live, there are hundreds of moving parts etc. So yeah, sometimes skits suck, but sometimes they’re brilliant. The fact they kept trying to entertain us during the pandemic was so wonderful and very cool.
@nebulousisgod

It’s also more edgy to hate SNL these days because after Trump helped make everything overtly political, SNL went more liberal than usual. So the right wing pricks and those who are too lazy to attempt to comprehend politics just loudly hate on it and make a big show about their hatred. Under every SNL video for a while there were tons of dicks telling everyone how terrible the show is, despite the fact that they clicked on it.
@Sean-kg2gr
@Sean-kg2gr 2 года назад
@@nebulousisgod they’re just big mad because Alec Baldwin played the shit out of Trump, Kate McKinnon played the shit out of Giuliani, and Alex Moffat and Mikey Day played the shit out of Eric and Don Jr. they’re also mad because they never had trouble running out of material to make fun of them because so much material was provided by the Trump administration. Republicans could make their own right wing sketch show but no one would think taking healthcare away from people is funny lol

Good impulsive comedy always gets a bad rep, just like South Park, it's a similar concept because they too put a whole episode together in a week and Matt & Trey say if they had longer, most of the good comedy wouldn't make it because you spend too much time rewriting and overthinking things that they may become "unfunny" in a writers mind. I don't think it's hit or miss at all with SNL or South Park, they both in most respects reflect society in the best comical forms possible, and a lot of those jokes are often misunderstood because they're aimed at the people who do said/those things lmao. Comedy is the greatest thing ever, SNL is a staple in comedy and shows that you can still be ruthless in these times.

i used to sadly be like this and skip the show all together bc "it's boring" or "i dont know who the host is so why watch" but s46 was the first time i watched every episode no matter if i knew the host/musical guest or not and just enjoyed the show for what it is and remind myself this is incredibly difficult to put together. i started enjoying snl a lot more and now it's my favorite show no matter who's on. comedians can't be funny 24/7, a joke is always gonna fall through at some point!! when you start to realize that it makes it a lot more enjoyable.

It's cool that SNL made a mini doc on such a wild and crazy season. I thought what Aidy Bryant said at the start of the video nicely summed it up. "I would say in a normal week of making the show , it's normal to cry once or twice. And in the pandemic version of making the show, you might cry every day, and that's comedy."

There were a couple of shows and services I saw that really stepped up to the plate to help people. The main one that helped me was Taskmaster. Their RU-vid channel is a big focus for them and they had competitions and stuff, which i thought was so cool for everyone stuck at home, but mainly for me it was just watching the shows, usually full episodes. They're so funny and everyone is so lovable. SNL really helped too. And i can see why they were allowed to work when some people weren't. Like everyone i know had to work too, because they are essential.

I don't want to argue whether masks help or not. I believe that it has been wiser to wear them like doctors have been ordering all the time. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I really liked Cecily's gesture, though. She helped her friend in need. Aidy stopped panicking/worrying and stopped feeling alienated. She could stay on the stage and be just as everyone around her, not feel ashamed of lack of mask. Cecily's decision was risky but kind as hell.

This was my literal favorite season of SNL not necessarily because the sketches were any better than usual but there was this sense of comradery between the cast members and the viewing audience so cathartic for me. Although I have never met these people it truly felt like we were all in this together. This is mostly likely the only season I have watched each episode right when it aired. It felt so important to me in a time of such isolation to know that I wasn’t alone in my feelings of bafflement about what was going on in our world. @Daniel Drader there are a lot of different skits that the cast needs to memorize so they don’t make a mistake for the final airing of the episode. With that comes remembering every skit they are in with remembering everything they have to do and every line they have. So that seems like a lot of work, just because they memorize everything doesn’t mean they remember everything so they need to use queue cards. And you have to remember that a lot of parts are pre recorded so they film it one day and put it in the SNL segment the day that episode is being aired.

@@duckduckgoose51 I think you just repeated what I ended with. I get having cue cards as a crutch but holy shit, reading them like it's the first night of a high school play... I was teaching at a preschool in Florida throughout the pandemic, I had to go in every morning, smile on behind the mask and be cheerful in front of twenty 3-4 year olds. They were old enough to ask me tough questions too. I spent a lot of nap times with one air pod in, watching snl compilations. This show, this cast, everyone behind the scenes, got me through some hard days. Thank you.

If the rumors are true, just about half of the current cast will be moving on and thats kind of sad. This cast had to be one of the most talented Ive seen in years. The political sketches along with Weekend Updatd with Jost/Che were hilarious. And these kids managed to work seemlessly with former SNL alumni and and reoccuuring guests like Eddie Murphy, Alec Baldwin and Bill Hader. And I have to give a shout out to Pete Davidson who hung in there despite a whole range of personal issues. Sorry to see them go.

Maybe it's people who's businesses were shut down and/or went under due to lock-downs, and the threat of legal action in some states. Orrrr, maybe it's people with businesses that were burned out or destroyed in the name of justice, all while the pandemic was such a hot topic. Just offering another point of view. Good to see that the big money folks at SNL are faring well though. ;) The actors' salary is based on how many years they have been in the show. They mostly get either $25,000 for each episode or $525,000 every year.

Go back to the days of Sid Caesar when they came up with ideas, decided what was the best, and then go work on them until they work. Why write all those sketches to get what they need? I'd be a little annoyed if a lot of the stuff I was working on there wasn't getting on the air.

Show business often breaks people down mentally and emotionally so when they get emotional over an especially hard run, it’s easy for people with typical jobs to look at them like weak whiny babies. The mystery of the job also leads many others to create Satanic conspiracy nonsense to explain away the fact that entertainers are people just like them. I just want people to understand it’s a very overwhelming business and we rely on entertainers to help keep us sane and we should just accept that and pull back with the judgments and assumptions. It’s obviously unhealthy to worship or obsess over celebrities in any way but you don’t have to go the opposite direction to the extreme. SNL has always been and will always be hit or miss, just due to the format and constraints. But when it hits, it hits damn good.
