@@gefbrille It wasn't him singing^^ James Intvel sang instead of Johnny, but didn't appear in credits as an actor ✨ You can hear it's a different voice, even tho they sometimes sound a bit similar 🍀
@@hamlet4245 Did we watch the same video? The ENTIRE video that -I- watched was practically dedicated to explaining the lengths they went to to make sure all the actors could use their own singing voices. Like that was literally like half this whole video.
@TinyGoblin I ❤❤❤ your username, also my first cat I adopted in 1998, she was all black and I named her Goblin. I got her 3 days before Halloween, and I was re-obssessing over the film Labyrinth, which has always been a favorite of mine, but I was falling in love with it now as a 17/18 year old. I knew my kitty had to have something spooky, and Goblin was PERFECT. I'm sure it must've been hilarious to people watching me/ or hearing me shouting for her to come back inside- after the sun begun setting, after she'd been out playing during the day, "GOOOBBBLIIIINNNNN!" Hahahaha I must've looked like such a psycho! Your picture is perfect too. You've brought joy to me & my day!!! Thank You! ❤❤❤
Helena’s voice is so so beautiful. The final scene where you hear the echo when she sings “not while I’m around.” Is so beautiful. And Johnny’s voice is just perfect for his role
I would actually like to hear him sing it now that he is a more seasoned singer. I’m also just spoiled from hearing Len Cariou’s 1979 version of Epiphany and I love the grit and agony he channels. I think Johnny can bring even more of a punch now that he is a more seasoned singer. He can do that for sure. He has it.
@@TheMoosanity agreed, I think it would be wonderful to hear the differences. Especially the difference strength & confidence can bring to one's singing voice once you find it. I know I went through a similar journey discovering my own singing voice. Now I enjoy recording vocal covers of all kinds of songs I ❤.
singers who study for years and years: *struggling and working as hard as possible* johnny, basically: "huh. never sang before. guess i'll give it a go." *does it perfectly*
You do realise that's a lie for the press, right? They say that to make you want to see the movie. If they told the truth; that he had to take some serious singing lessons, and still struggled on stage quite a bit (the opening is especially bad) then nobody would want to see the film.
Johnny is in a band called, "Hollywood Vampires," so he does have musical background, and a great voice! The one who surprised me was Alan Rickman. He has always been the villian in movies, but he can sing? WOW!! Helena did an amazing job, as well! This is my favorite musical!!
That's because he was! Wicked sense of humour, genuine and very generous spirited towards his work colleagues. He was a great mentor to Daniel, Emma and Rupert.
While watching the film, I never would have thought that this was a lot of the main actors’ first musical and even first time singing. They were all so good and added an extra touch of emotion and rawness that you don’t usually get with classically trained musical singers.
The way johnny looks at the razors in My Friends, is the same way Ms.lovett looks at sweeney. It's just so smart, the acting the singing everything really. My favorite musical.
the rasp, the growl, the ROAR he had in his natural speaking voice, especially as Capt. Jack Sparrow--- it's only something a singer can do. He speaks well--extraordinarily well, and I've noticed that anyone who can do a proper growl tends to have quite a nice singing talent. it makes sense that he can sing, considering he'd done voice work many times. i bet he at least sang casually for his own enjoyment, before this film. such a huge fan of that growl. it's super cool, and uniquely his own. if you listen for it in his other characters, that growl can't help but pop out and let us know "oh, johnny depp's still in there" XD they all had to have worked super hard, but like. that's the magic of editing. makes it look effortless.
He may have sang along to songs before this, but I doubt he explored his true singing capabilities. I think until you're in a position where you have to, is the main way people who once thought they had no ability to sing learn that they can. I had a similar situation learning my own singing voice.
Just got done watching this movie and I loved it SO much! OMG HIS ENDING SCENE! "Benjamin Barker...." "BENJAMIN BARKER!!" It was great. And don't even get me started on his first kill! His acting was great. He put so much emotion into it. He really seemed like an angry man on that scene and really brought his character to life. The singing 10/10 **chef kiss**
"Wardrobe is being designed, production is underway, we are spending millions of dollars, not one person on Earth had heard Johnny sing." 3 years earlier... "We're devils and black sheep we're really bad eggs! Drink up, me hearties, yo ho!" I love how people forget that he sang in Pirates!
Yes, that is true. But there's a difference with singing a line, and belting out a whole song. Finding your true singing voice vs singing one line, it's quite a difference.
Johnny’s singing is literally incredible. This Sweeney Todd soundtrack is #1 frequently played on Amazon music for me. Does that explain how much I love these songs? Or do I need to explain further.
I literally just talked about how this is possibly the only flawless movie I've ever seen. The cinamatography is amazing, the sound is amazing, the characters are amazing, the cast is amazing, the atmosphere, the everything. I love it so much
Johnny Depp had this rock star quality to his voice and it was a marvelous thing to listen to. His performance in My Friends is just perfect. Helena Bonham Carter isn't a great singer but she did give it a try. You can hear it in her voice and the breaths that she's taking to sing especially with By The Sea. Like I said she gave it a good try. She has the same gothic qualities that Depp has, like she is his counterpart. They work really well with each other. This film is prob one of the best Burton, Depp and Carter collaborations.
You are right, she is definitely not the best singer out there (at least not for those high notes) BUT I think that makes her even more fitting for the role. I have seen professional recordings of this musical. The Mrs Lovetts had a hard time pretending what comes naturally to Helena: Sounding dirty, and creepy, like a woman who is at the bottom of their life and has seen things. Helena's Mrs Lovett isn't "pleasant" to listen to, but she gives you the spine chills that put the HORROR in "horror musical". She isn't too bad of a singer either, but she is not like "an aristocrat trying to sound like a peasant" and more like "a peasant trying to sound like she is well-mannered, while she is not". Helena is perfect for roles like these
This behind-the-scenes look at the making of 'Sweeney Todd' is truly fascinating. I loved seeing the passion and dedication that went into creating this masterpiece, from the intricately detailed costumes to the beautifully designed sets. It's clear that everyone involved in the production put their heart and soul into it, and the end result is truly breathtaking. Thank you for sharing this behind-the-scenes glimpse into the world of theater. It's a reminder of the hard work and creativity that goes into creating these incredible productions.
So many Harry Potter bad guys were in this film. Young and old Grindelwalds, Bellatrix, Wormtail, Snape(well sorta). Even Imelda Staunton, who played Dolores Umbridge in HP, played Mrs Lovett in the play version of S.T.
This movie has an amazing cast. The songs are excellent. Helena is simply one of the best actress I have ever known. As well as she seems an absolute amazing person in life as well. I love her style. I do miss Alan Rickman. What a lovely person and an amazing actor he was.
this movie will forever be emblazoned in my mind, the memories, the music, acting, costumes, set designs, graphics... the Gore was so artistic! So immaculate omg!
This movie was incredible. I was never really into Musicals, but this one pulled me in. i am just a MASSIVE fan of anything with these 2 tho. They are incredible together! And i always forget Sacha is in this! He is one hell of a Talent!
This Movie is why I can't eat meat pies to this day !! Love the Movie Hsve Always Loved Johnny... hoping his career will get back on track and amber gets hers for lying !!
I thought it was just me! Lol. I moved to Australia 5 years ago and they love their meat pies here but I can't get myself to have a single bite because of this film. 😂
I think this one embodies the true meaning of a "musical". It really has a way of appealing to so many, with a widespread appeal. I find it interesting how it seems to be a musical for people who don't like musicals, as well as those who do. Genius.
Helena, Tim and Johnny are just superbly “otherworldly”. I would love to be happily stranded on a Scottish Island, living in a traditional Lighthouse during the beginning of the century, roaring fires, good honest food, books, music art materials, comfortable soft furnishings and lot’s of time for exceptional conversations! And David Attenborough would live there too! A lovely daydream. 😊
I'm sure there are millions of classically trained vocalists who were salty af they didn't get cast in this but the amateur quality of the singing MADE this movie
When I first saw this movie, I was questioning if it really was directed by Tim Burton due to the fact that all of his movies are dark comedies and this movie was downright serious from beginning to end.
wow...the fact Johnny never had any training in singing before this film really shows the kinda man he is, the level of talent he holds. i swear to god the word will end once he dies.
Plus there’s Johnny who’d go on to play Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts and Jamie who’d already played Grindelwald in the regular HP films. This movie was full of Harry Potter actors! 💛
Timothy Spall* Also, basically, it's Snap r*ping old Grindelwald's wife and wanting to marry his daughter with Peter Pettigrew as his little henchman, while young Grindelwald also wants to marry old Grindelwald's daughter (is that even legal?!) and Bellatrix Lestrange simps for old Grindelwald, and Borat/Brüno hops onto the show for his own little party. There's also a Gryffinpuff first year killing off old Grindelwald, while young time-travelling Grindelwald and old Grindelwald's daughter elope and sail towards the sunset.
I was very surprised hearing Professor Snape (yes, I know that character is completely from a totally different movie) sing in this movie! Great movie. Love Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Depp as well!
Basically, it's Snap r*ping old Grindelwald's wife and wanting to marry his daughter with Peter Pettigrew as his little henchman, while young (probably time travelling) Grindelwald also wants to marry old Grindelwald's daughter (is that even legal?!) and Bellatrix Lestrange simps for old Grindelwald, and Borat/Brüno hops onto the show for his own little party. There's also a Gryffinpuff first year killing off old Grindelwald, while young time-travelling Grindelwald and old Grindelwald's daughter elope and sail towards the sunset.
Just finally watched this this weekend after being too scared to go with my older siblings to see it when I was 12! I loved it. So scary. Had to watch a funny show afterward, and now watching analyses and behind-the-scenes videos like this makes me appreciate it even more 🥰
Probably the best behind the scenes video I've ever seen! Fun fact: in the opening scene with both Johnny Depp and Jamie Campbell Bower- - they both played Gellert Grindelwald ... Jamie in Harry Potter Deathly Hallows and Johnny in Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them as well as Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald! Lovely to see them both together in the same film.🖤 And Johnny certainly did Steven Sondheim proud in this film for sure!
He was Gellert Gridelwald who is in fact a character in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter so I think he counts Also you missed Pettigrew so technically there are 5
My parents subscribed to a local theatre company in San Mateo. For a couple decades at least they saw four plays a year. They always returned with good reviews but the one I actually remember my dad talking to me about, in awe of both the story and music, is Sweeney Todd.
The fact they weren't singers gave it a certain charm to it that I loved and I'm not a huge fan of musicals. Also rip Alan Rickman, he still amazes me with his acting with the character he plays as his real personality is so different.
from the costume design ., to the colors of the scenes, the contrast, the lighting, the music, the time frame in which is takes place, to the actors and voices, everything came together perfectly, an amazing masterpiece, one of a kind film. theres nothing like it, not even the other sweeney todd musicals.
I'm not wired to watch scary things. I do not want to open doors for the adversary to pay with my mind. Grateful for the behind the scenes "painting a light picture " showing us how they did things
I love hearing them talk talk about how it is to be singing the Music and then not being able to breathe I can feel that on a spiritual level being in choir where a lot of the music did not have very much time to breathe and you'd have to take quick small breaths In between words or phrases
As soon as I saw this advertised I knew I had to see it, always admired Johnny, Helena ans Tim's work. Being in a w.chair visiting the cinema is not an easy task but so wanted to see this on the big screen. I went with my daughter as she like me loves musicals, we weren't disappointed right from the start we were mesmerized, we loved it, in fact my daughter went with some friends to see it again. Both of us have the DVD's of the film and even now it's in my top 10 of all time favourite films. Thank you for this behind the scenes look at the making, most enjoyable.
Uhhh i remember i kept fighting with my girl because i didn't want to watch a musical!! And then i was hooked from the first minute! Saw it 2 in cinema and dozens times at home!
This movie scared the crap out of me as a child and I can’t remember why, it’s one of my favorite movies of all time now as an adult. The singing and musical numbers were just so good and memorable, I’m not normally a fan of these kinds of movie.
2 of my favorite actors EVER!!! And my #1 favorite producer Tim Burton!!! God put these 3 together... Isn't it insane how things come together. One of me and my families favorite movies ever. Thanks everyone involved in making this movie possible. Johnny, Helena, ALL OF THESE ACTORS ARE ROCK STARS ROO!!!❤❤❤🙏🙏🙏🙌🙌🙌🤗😁😇🌹👻👽👾🐺🌻🐈🐕🌷🌺💮💫🙌❤🙏
Yeah, you can hear that Johnny and Helena are not professional (musical) singers, but you know what? That makes it even more fitting for this musical. Their voices are not so clean like professional singers and that makes them fit perfectly into the dirty setting. Jayne's (Johanna) voice is more like a Disney princess, and that's what's her role suppose to be: An innocent princess who doesn't know the real world but has to face the terror of her own. If you want to do a musical film with high-end actors who are not professional singers: Here is how it is done
