Booked a trip for 2021 to Darwin to Adelaide on the Ghan . Last time we went on the Ghan the railway line had not been completed so now to finish our Bucket List we hope to enjoy it as much as the first time.

i couldnt afford Platinum. But Gold class was amazing still :D just the ride out of Sydney was a bit rough. everything rattled so loudly and kept me awake as line is so windy. But the experience was second to none :) maybe some rubber stoppers on the doors to stop them rattling so much?

The carriages, on the Ghan & I Pacific, frames "shazzes" were built really will. They are pushing 50 years of age,, with virtually continues use's. Every time I see the I Pacific go past, she sits really will on the track, cruising along, beautifully. I'd love to know how many times they change the bogeyes, like new wheels suspension systems, etc anyone know. I'm surprised they haven't put air bags on. But the carriages are so will made they probably don't need air bags. Wonder how long it'll be before they, have to retire them, the stainless steel on the carriages still look better then the, carriages in the museum, or the tour trains they do. I was on her in 1997 CLP was the loco from Adelaide, we were 3 hour or so late. Still around 3 hour later at port Augusts :sic" but through the night, boy did she move we were doing 115 kp/h all night even around the bends, you could feel her pushing you a bit, with the wheels squealing. But she just sat in the track beautifully.

I was on IP in April from Perth to Sydney and my first ever IP journey was from Sydney to Perth in 1974. I noticed that the oldest carriage I could find in April was built in 1968. Long before the IP. I think it was on the Trans Australian Adelaide to Perth. The sleeping cars need to be updated as I could see no visible signs of update since my 1974 journey. The lounge and restaurant cars have been updated. I find the journey incredibly expensive. I paid $2500 in April and $100 approximately in 1974 for red sleeper which no longer exists. How I wish for the return of red class! We need to update this train to true first class and introduce free wifi and USB ports. Music and sound system that works and lockable doors to cabins.

Question? Does anyone else have a Train Trekkers Membership Card? We would like to know if it is still valid or not and if we can still use it on our next booked trip. Would appreciate an update.

Just a suggestion but after going on the Ghan gold class Adelaide to Darwin we felt the cabin window too small to fully take in the view. Could the train not have larger windows or windows like the panoramic trains in Canada with the side roof corner windows? I know that would be a great expense but so much nicer. The rooms are so small as to be claustrophobic and bigger expansive windows would help this.

I can't believe the Ghan and Indian Pacific don't have open cars? Smashing beers in the open would be perfect thru Outback Australia. These new ponced up Cars are 100% Limp Wristed. Lads wanna smoke cigars and down jugs in the Big Country not waste a day inside wagons with wall to floor fabrics. Chop chop , on to it boys - make it happen.
