Come for a trip on Australia's most epic railway journey, The Indian Pacific, all the way from Sydney to Perth via Adelaide and the Nullarbor.
This is a four-day, three-night 4352km journey traverses mountain ranges, arid deserts as well as the longest straight stretch of railway in the world, all in air-conditioned comfort with sumptuous three-course meals.
Named for the two oceans the train encounters on its journey, the Indian Pacific travels between Perth, Adelaide and Sydney on a spectacular 4352km crossing.
Find out why this transcontinental train is considered one of the world's great railway journeys.

Dad left his home town and ended up in Peterborough looking for work in 58 . He got a job in the Railway Roundhouse. He shortly after met Mum who was a Nurse in Training at the P'borough Hospital , when he was admitted for a bad fall. Mum's Family are Railway Family . They all left around 1962. They can remember it being so cold it was snowing , but they remember it being Boiling Hot Climate

A freight train carrying food to Perth runs along the railway line that you took from Sydney via Adelaide to Perth. A freight train transporting food consists of the following parts: at the beginning there are two diesel electric locomotives, behind which there is first a freight car that has two smaller container tanks with fuel for the locomotives, the next car is a passenger car in which one controller sits, behind the passenger car there are several freight cars which transport two container refrigerators standing on top of each other and finally there are refrigerator wagons.

This train journey in platinum service is at the top of my bucket list. Nothing like this exists in the U.S. We had 1 ocean to ocean line here that ran from the Atlantic to the Pacific, but it was destroyed by a hurricane, and isn’t likely to be replaced anytime soon.

One of the many highlights experienced on the Indian Pacific was the food. The food served on this train was the best ever eaten in Australia. And, when you observe how tiny the galley actually is, you find it difficult to believe that such quality can be prepared in such minute facilities.

@@PaulaBean Sorry for the delay in responding. It was as excellent as this video showed. The staff were very friendly and professional, the off train excursions were very interesting but due to the time constraints of track usage a couple of them were not available, this was conveyed at the time of booking so there weren't any surprises in that regard and from 2025 onwards the journey will be over 5 days instead of four so that should hopefully solve this. The food was phenomenal, truly some of the best I've ever tasted. Even the light snacks they provide before boarding are great. All in all it was well worth the price.

I did this trip from Kalgoorlie to Sydney in 1975. It was fantastic. Cost $365 approx and that was first class. I had the same single bed room. A memorable moment was falling asleep on the bed and waking up in Broken Hill with people walking past my window, I was glad I was dressed.

Thank you, Adam, from South Africa for a fascinating account of your trip. I did not know that Australia had a dedicated luxury train for this rout. I had always known about the fact that different gauges had been in use and it is edifying to learn that a single gauge, which I think is the standard European gauge, has been introduced. Our gauge is still 3 foot 6 inches, except for our only high speed train which id standard European and operates in the Johannesburg - Pretoria mega city. I have no doubt that when our country pulls itself together, the standard gauge will replace all major railways. Living in South Africa's out back, much of which is semi desert, I have always had a fascination for the nul arbour plain. It is truly interesting to see it from the train.

Thanks for sharing this excellent video. I remember when the first Indian Pacific trains started running. There was a three year booking period back then. Also, the original train route did not include Adelaide and the train would just pass through Port Augusta SA and on to Perth. I think detouring the journey to Adelaide is a great improvement. It not only gives onboard train passengers a time to rest, but it also makes it easier for Adelaide passengers to join the journey.
@FromtheWindowSeat
@FromtheWindowSeat 7 месяцев назад
Thank you! Agreed. Because the train is no longer primarily about getting from A to B, it’s about the journey and experience, the Adelaide stop is a good thing. 😊

Lovely video of the best train trip in Australia! I took my 5th Indian Pacific trip 14 months ago with my Guide Dog and we had such a great time. As always the crew were amazing and looked after us very well. We had Cameron just on the trip between Adelaide and Sydney but between Perth and Adelaide we had a crew with a Journey Mannager I've met before which was exciting. I did some videos about the trip from an accessability point of view. I look forward to hearing another video soon.
