Great video and an amazing bike - I use to own a Monster 620ie, then a Monster 1000Sie and now I own a Streetfighter 1098 which is I think the pinnacle of the pure raw Ducati bikes.
@@michaelmam The normal Streefighter1098 doesn't have traction control, only the S models had it. As I (only) have a normal 1098 I have zero electronics on mine. What I did with mine is that I focused on weight shedding. I've installed a Termignoni exhaust , removed the exhaust valve with the motor, swapped the battery for a lithium one, removed the rear foot pegs, swapped the showa/sachs suspension for Ohlins, changed most of plastics for Carbon Fiber parts and did some fine tuning with the ECU... the results are 157kg of dry weight and 165 HP... which is sort of crazy, as I have to literally fight the bike every time I twist the throttle, but well... I guess that's why it's called a Streetfighter...
I had a 2007 S4RS Testastretta. Added a taller handlebar riser, various carbon fiber parts, keyless gas cap, shortened the carbon fiber Termi cans, and converted the front rotors to true full-floaters. The rattle of the full-floaters, dry clutch, and Termis is a sound like no other, and that bike could get up and move. Only downside was the U.S. models had issues with the ethanol in our fuel causing the plastic gas tanks to swell. Other than that, a great bike, pleasure to ride for sure! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ojN5A9jZcJM.html
I am lucky enough to own the same motorcycle as this. It’s a well balanced motorcycle with tons of power. I’m 55 so my speeding days are over. I have a single exhaust pipe on mine and to be honest, I think it sounds fantastic! My Dad had a Vincent Black Shadow so fair to say, I got my love of motorcycles from him. Great video Dave. Thanks for doing it.
Beautiful bike and beautiful collection. Really enjoyed this video and as someone who has ridden Suzukis all my life and now wanting to dip my toe into Ducati and purchase a Monster, I found this very useful in helping me navigate the minefield of Ducati 🤣
If I had that bike, I would definitely paint that stripe on the tail red!!! Right now It is not balanced visually........Sal : ). Great video, thank you.
I have the S4RS in white with the red stripes. A beautiful work of art to ride and to look at. Such a great and informative video! You have gain another subscriber sir 🫡
I am riding around on my winter bike at the moment but looking forward to riding it again in the spring . I plan to make another video once I have ridden “1000 miles” . See if we can get some Go-pro and maybe drone footage 👍 Great bike
Another fantastic video Michael, thanks! Congrats on the purchase, she looks a stunner. Coincidentally, I test rode a Monster 1200 a few months ago, but disappointingly it just felt too rabid for me (in full fat mode). Of course, I’m being a big girls blouse, but its a good point you made about no rider aids. In the end, and thanks to a dealer open day, I grabbed the keys to a Scrambler 800 Urban Motard, and absolutely fell for it, could really have some fun at sensible road pace. Did I buy it? No…I went for a Scrambler 1100 Tribute Pro! Not quite as scruff-of-the-neck as the smaller 800, but actually it meets my brief of having something I could feel in control of, not something that’s in control of me….I am no Mr Fogarty, after all (and not afraid to admit it)
Hi Michael I’m in Darwin Australia and I’m 44 and love watching your videos and I’m like a sponge about learning all things bikes , keep up the great content champ..🇦🇺👌🤙
Great review Michael. We have very similar taste in bikes 😀 I once had an S4 (very long time ago) and now have the Z900RS. I forget what the S4 riding position was like. How does riding position of the S4RS compare to the Z900RS?
The Z riding position is similar ie forward and open but with more bend in the arm . As you know I really like my Z .. such a good all rounder and so easy to ride . The monster is a handful but a different sort of fun 👍
Thank you so much. Most informative/interesting. If you have ever rode an 848 Streetfighter, or per chance are able to; I would sincerely appreciate your comparison of said machine with the 821/1200 Monsters. Kindest regards, I do find your videos to be some of the most ‘worthwhile to watch’ motorcycle content on RU-vid - thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge, and I really do hope that you take enjoyment from doing so.
Thank you for your kind comments Simone . Glad you enjoy the videos as much as I enjoy making them ! I will keep my eye out for an 821/1200 to compare to the 848 👍
Great video Michael, maybe best yet..would never ride such a beast due to lack of skill...but always admire the superb engineering and design which you showcase with aplomb..enjoyed your video on the Interceptor project..have you considered how it might shape up against say a Bonneville T100 or similar?
Thank you David . Gradually learning how to make videos . A bit more involved than I thought initially but good fun . Ducati are pretty good at delivering Style and function , except their mirror department , which is invariably a victory of the former over the later 😂 I have thought about doing a comparison between a T100 and my Big Bore but will leave it a while . Feels like I have done a lot on the 865 and want to give everyone a break 👍
You are not alone in that view Andy . There was quite a backlash of opinion when they went water cooled and placed the oil cooler under the rad .. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment 👍
No wheelies for me (on that big gals, my wife would kill me b4 i manage 2 do it myself and i definitly would be able 2 do so :D), still a beautiful bike, thank you presenting it to us :) 👍
Always enjoy your bike reviews u have a definite talent for it and luv your selection ever considered a Drysdale v8 750 Not well known low production order only if still being made
Thank you Karl . Glad you enjoy them . Still learning how to make them but having fun , which is the point . Never even seen a Drysdale other than the photo of the yellow one that was , sadly , stolen in Australia a few years ago . Would love to have a ride on one !!
Once again Michael an informative and entertaining review; got a couple of Ducatis already (1199s Panigale & 1200 Multistrada Enduro (maddest of the big adventure bikes)) & really keen to add one of these. Thanks, even more keen now 👍
Years ago I had a 750 Monster and always thought the riding ergos were a bit weird - like my legs were on a sport bike but my arms were on a dirt bike and think it might have felt better with lower bars or even clipons. Gradually moved on to a ZRX1200 and I loved running hard through first gear, shifting into 2nd and feeling the front wheel rise up ever so effortlessly! Currently have a Ducati Scrambler 800 and it's not exactly exciting but it's ok I guess. Time to sell it!
119hp might be for the S4R since they share the same manual? Pretty sure a main difference is the S4RS had a 999 engine, whereas the S4R had the outgoing 998 engine. I might be wrong, but prove me wrong internet 🤘
Great to have just discovered your cannel and excellent videos. Not sure how I haven't come across it before. I have the slightly less feisty but just as beautiful S2R 1000 and a 650 interceptor so now working my way through your other videos. Got me thinking about the big bore kit now for the 650.
I love my S4RS. You really want the full termi system and DP ECU and air box mod to unleash the full performance as the 50mm system gives another 20hp. Mine dynos at 132hp
Thank you for watching and commenting 👍 Great feedback on the BHP . I suspect the specs that I found are with the termi installed which makes sense .. I will be keeping my ear to ground to see if I can track a pair down ..
@@michaelmam Michael no you were correct the stock bike is 130hp at the crank (150 with the termi kit). The stock headers are quite small due to packaging and the injectors are also smaller than a 999 due to lack of space. Also consider adjusting the ride height adjuster. A couple of turns raises the rear end to give even better turn in.
@@michaelmam yes 132 at the wheel. I have also changed the front sprocket down one tooth to 14 at the front. I’m pretty hopeless at wheelies but this thing powerstands in second and wheelies over crests without trying in third. Quite a handful but great fun.
Absolutely the best video yet!!! Love the close ups of the frame and chassis as you commentate on the specs. You are really devoting yourself into these videos and it shows. Great work Michael!
An absolutely beautiful motorcycle and a great video that really shows the history, talent and engineering behind one of the best motorcycles Ducati has made, thank you for making this content!
Hi i have had two of these machine one i bought new and a second one 3years old, the bike can be a hooligan i think the worst petrol consumption was 60miles riding the bike very quickly. The engine is too power for the chassis well-over speed limit they wobble so a damper is needed to control this i had a side ohlins fitted i had carbon wheels on the first one and it was a wheelie monster lift the front wheel in the first 3 gears most fun bike i have had. Its stiff suspension, plastic tank problems where my issues
The tank expanded maybe due to fuel or heat i bought a new tank. Its widely mentioned on the net. It shows up when you lift the tank and find it hard to impossible to align the tank again
What a wonderful review! Really enjoyed the way you talk about the bike and what its like. I currently looking to buy one and your discription made me want one even more. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it . I recently tried a street fighter 4S . It reminded me of my S4RS, but on steroids 😂 . The only thing between you and the ambulance, is the technology .. Good that these types of bike( edgy and tricky but satisfying to ride) still exist today ..
Hi Mike, finally found the channel. It’s Dave Howse from Hartford’s remember me? All those years ago.. spoke to Steve P and he told me you had a channel. Love the vids be good to catch up at some stage, I’ve got an Interceptor as well!
Good to hear from you Dave ! It has been a few years but clearly we have both retained our interest in motorbikes . We should go for a ride on the Interceptors at some point and compare life notes 😂
@@michaelmam definitely lets get something organised. Remember the Husqvarna you bought and we rode it along with a PE175 at that little field nr Witney?
@@djhowse I do indeed ! Funnily enough I have just edited the story of what I learnt about geometry from the PE and Husky , out of my draft ZRX video . The PE turned sharply but wasn’t stable whilst the Husky was great in the open but slow to turn . Boy , did I hit some trees first time out in competition 😂
Thanks Tim . Glad you liked it . Looking forward to getting out on it again this summer . I will probably do a “1000 Miles “ video on it . Good excuse to take it out 😂
@@michaelmam would love to hear your view comparing the s4r with the simple aircooled M1100 Evo.. looking to fit multistrada forks & shock to an Evo for light touring.. not a fan of the multistrada styling but wonderful to ride
Don't do that, you will regret it, it's the last real monster and it's still very competitive with modern bikes on the mountains, plus she is so beautiful!
I have the same exact bike, #12 of 450, low miles just over 2k, and everything you said is spot on. Granted mine has the full Termi exhaust system, Ducati racing ECU and high flow intake. It is a no joke, best know what you r doing before you ride motorcycle. Lastly it hates going slow and not the best for city riding.
