Solomonster has full reviews of the Dark Side of the Ring episode and A&E biography on The Ultimate Warrior, covering his childhood, tagging with Sting as The Bladerunners, coming to WWE and beating Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania 6, his first marriage falling apart, the never-before-seen apology video Vince McMahon forced him to record for a young fan, holding up McMahon for more money before Summerslam and getting suspended, why things went south with his 1996 comeback and what McMahon offered him to return after the Montreal Screwjob, his incendiary blog posts and controversial school lectures, going into the Hall of Fame in 2014 and his untimely demise. Which documentary was the stronger of the two?

@@Andysnyc The heat comes from guys with emotional ties to the wrestling business, who spent years training and losing matches before making it big. They resent the fact that some big muscle-head got over in a short period despite his limited in-ring ability, and they hated that he did not socialize with them or ask them for advice. And then they resent him more when they are told that he held up Vince for money, but then Austin and Flair get a free pass even though they no-showed events with less notice than him. I enjoyed the Dark Side of the Ring doc. It broke down what was going on with him during his post Wrestlemania 6 run, and how he took it personally when the other wrestlers said "He can't wrestle." Whatever happened, I like how he made up with his first wife and then with the other wrestlers at his HOF induction. Great Jake the Snake quote, "I learned a lesson in life that day."

I'm actually impressed with how both A&E as well as Vice did on presenting the Ultimate Warrior. Neither shy away from the truth. As far as my thoughts on Jim, I have forgiven him for the stuff he said and done. He was not the nicest guy in the world and he showed us that. However, I am glad that he got to make amends before he passed away. Life is to short to hold a grudge against someone. We as a culture need to learn that lesson. I believe that Jim knew that he would probably die in a year so that is why he ask forgiveness from his peers. If you noticed in the WrestleMania 30 documentary he acted very calmly and not angry at all. Maybe he cleaned his life up or maybe he even found the Lord. Who knows but I really like his last promo he did before he passed away the day after. Hopefully he can rest in peace. Jake Roberts said that he learned a lesson when Jim apologized to him. And that is something we all need to hear.

Ultimate Warrior was his own worst enemy, talking with people followed wrestling in the early 90s they tell me all the times how much they loved him, even more than Hogan because he had the superhero feeling with that painting and also the body type of a greek God. If he didn't flame out in such a short period of time, he would have been as big as Austin and Rock, no doubt about it, because he had the fans genuinely behind him that still to this day love everything he represented on the squarred circle

We have a whole generation of fans now that think being a good worker means you do with thousand moves in a match. That’s not what being a good worker is. Hogan was a good worker. Technically sound no but you didn’t expect big guys to be wrestling like Chris Benoit and Shawn Michaels in the 80s. I like Jim Cornett, he’s one of my favorite people in the wrestling business but it’s kind of his fault the reason why people think this way. Ever since he did that shoot interview where he said Kevin Nash only had six moves everyone that’s gotten into the business after that thinks that to be a great worker you have to do 1000 moves. Now we have guys that do a thousand moves But they don’t know how to work worth a fuck. They should be Olympic divers today not pro wrestlers

I know that this match would not rate well on the Dave Meltzer star scale, but my favorite Ultimate Warrior match was his match against the Honky Tonk Man for the IC Title at Summerslam. At the same time, a problem with the Ultimate Warrior as Champion was the fact that the WWE at the time wrote themselves into a corner with the character once he won the title. The Ultimate Warrior not only won all the time, he won in such a way that nobody else stood a chance against him. He beat Andre the Giant in 30 seconds. Both him and Hulk Hogan convincingly defeated all the heels in the organization at the time. He never showed vulnerability until he wrestled the Undertaker after he lost the title. It is hard to draw money if nobody buys into the fact that he can be beaten.

While he did sound like a raging Tradcon lolcow ("Big L" Libertarians like us tend to mock both sides), he was a genuinely cool person even towards those who disagreed with his opinions. He actually said he regretted his "queering doesn't make the world work" rant in his talk. I did like how the DSOR episode highlighted him apologizing to everyone he knew he did wrong like Jake Roberts. Warrior did seem like he felt guilty about the shitty things he did when he was wrestling and boy there are many. Despite it all, I was a Warrior fanboy when I was a kid and as an adult I think he was fighting a number of insecurities and his crazy Tradcon rants served as an outlet. Thinking about it now I'm almost positive Dark side of the ring could have maybe done 2 hours instead of only one I did see the documentary on A and E and I thought it was pretty good.

On _The Self-Destruction of the Ultimate Warrior_ DVD from years ago Sgt. Slaughter was the one who brought up Hogan suggesting breaking the Warrior's leg. The way Slaughter tells it Hogan was the one pushing Vince to let them "break his leg" and then in the very next segment Hogan coyly confirms this referring to it as "old school". I normally take Hogan stories with a big pinch of salt, but given that Sgt. Slaughter was the one who brought up that story I'm more inclined to believe it was true. Amusingly, when Warrior took them to court over it Hogan denied ever having said that. Despite there being VIDEO FOOTAGE OF HIM SAYING IT.

Jake the Snake and Ultimate Warrior made peace on Twitter before Hall of Fame. Initially Jake said something and Warrior posted a tweet about Jake's spiritual beliefs. Then Jake said he will be the better man and make amends, and Warror also said see you at the HOF.

I know Dana Warrior was probably upset, but be realistic. Yes, Warrior may be one of the greatest characters to ever grace a pro wrestling ring, but if he was a miserable prick to more than half the people he encountered, chances are they won't have too many good things to say about him

I believe that Jake was referring to after his feud with Warrior that he would be feuding with Hogan for the belt similar to the Undertaker, but since the Warrior Fell through, he instead feuded with Savage

@ Solomonster- Im curious as to what you wanted to see covered that wasnt by A&E and Darkside? The WCW stuff he did with Hogan is better left unsaid. It was ridiculously laughable when it wasnt meant to be. So im glad they ignored it. But im interested to know what else shouldve been covered in your mind.

I always wondered what would have happened if Warrior went to ECW and did more than just a squash match since he mentioned it in a shoot interview. I can imagine something similar to what Jim Cornette envisioned for the Boogeyman. A nutcase who escaped a mental institution and thinks he is a great warrior. Boy, that would have been fun to see cause he can't do the 80s Warrior with that type of crowd. Why not a storyline with New Jack? Jack dealt with the Deadman, so why not with a Warrior?

I went to watch the UConn video, I skimmed through it, and at 36:58, he's debating a student and says to him and the class, "The question was, do you know of a right without responsibility?" And a female student blurts out, "water!" He steps back and pauses for a second, points at her and says, "what are you smoking?!" Haha.

For a christmas special this year solomonster should check out the warrior's comic books, they're a real scream when it comes to showing just how nutter butters warrior was at the time. Especially the last ones in which he beats the piss out of a clear hulk hogan stand in before going on what can only be called a rampage against the WWF in which he straight up murders people before strangling the grinch who stole christmas to death and apparently killing snata then stealing his clothes.

I was ten in 1987 when the Warrior debuted in WWF. Unlike all these people that grew up watching him and loved him at the time, I never liked him. Granted, I always favored the heels even as a kid, but I knew good babyfaces when I saw them, and Warrior was not the kind I wanted to see. I remember looking at him and thinking "there is no way anyone can legitimately beat this guy". I hated the running and shaking the ropes. I cringed when his music would kick on. I had no interest in his interviews and thought his personality impossible to connect with. I was planning on watching the Dark Side of the Ring episode, but it sounds like they really dropped the ball. Can't believe they didn't bring up the WCW run.

Jake lied all and was overly dramatic throughout DSOT. I don't think Warrior said everything Jake said he did when he asked him to work with him. Plus, Warrior wasn't champ at the time. Also, no way was Jake going to hit Warrior with a roll of quarters and beat his ass at the hall of fame.
