Gary Rogers had just had his restaurant chain go under. Having already tasted the lifestyle of being self employed he wasn't ready to go back working for someone else. He stopped by The Dreyer's Ice Cream company in Oakland California to propose opening up a dip shop with them. The moment he arrived there he witnessed the owner at that time, Ken Cook being informed by his bank that he was being denied a loan that was desperately needed to keep the business going. It was at that moment that Gary inquired if he had considered selling the company. Despite being in the broke from the recent loss of his business, Gary managed to round up $1 million to purchase the company. Over the next several decades he grew it from a regional to one of the lead selling brands in the nation.
