In my time I was losing the sound of his voice from my mind, I was losing his love he showed me. @Dont Trip Everyone’s wrestling match with God is different, same thing with the spiritual journey with God. I would advice don’t give up because I am sure that at some point you will have your own spiritual encounter with God. I don’t think there is nothing wrong with you because I used to think there was also something wrong with me. If you want to read this segment you can, but I’m giving my testimony to you in hope that you can have an understanding of what went on in my years of wrestling with God. My family are mostly all Christian, my uncle is a pastor. I was born into Christianity but I never felt like I was part of it. I knew that Christianity was a religion, been to Sunday school and sermons all my life but I never understood the true meaning of what it is to be a Christian. I considered myself atheist for the longest time, then agnostic, satanist at some point. I was really seeking an answer of why me out of all people am I going through all of this crap. I wanted a real family that loved me. I wanted that hole in my heart to be filled with something. I didn’t like my uncles church because I saw how full it was with hypocrites, even my uncle himself. That church till now just wants to control people. I got really addicted to shoplifting, I was surrounded by bad people, you name it. I already had a lot of hardships in my life as it is even now, but at the age of 17, that’s when my life really went to the deep end. I ended up in jail because I shoplifted about over 150$ or more of merchandise with a girl that I thought was my best friend. I at that point it was my breaking point. I felt horrible and I was just tired of dealing with all of the things I was doing. Basically I was tired of my crap. I wanted to die so much already and that added fuel to the fire. At that point though in jail, I was like “Well let me give praying another chance.” I prayed and asked God for forgiveness and that I was tired of all of these issues I was going through. I thought I could get away with that shoplifting spree I did but now I’m here in jail. (Mind you, I was shoplifting for about 3 to 4 years. Started out with my mom teaching me how to do that.) I was pretty smart in school. I did great, I was in the National Honor Society. All my life I was known as a good kid with good grades and aspirations to be someone in life. Those people who knew me though didn’t know how many problems I had at home, the abuse I went through, etc. For me to end up in jail after I have always told myself I was going to graduate high school and go to college because my other older siblings never did was just an embarrassment to the character I made up in my head. I asked God to judge me accordingly and if I was to spend more time in jail, then to do so, but I give up. I realized that it is not up to me no more to depend on my own strengths and mind, but to just trust fully in God. I swear to you, my mind completely just opened there and God spoke to me and helped me understand why some people end up in jail. People that are in drugs and in jail rn are not bad, they all had lives too, but they are broken inside. They need help and this is how they are screaming for it. It’s so sad some of the things I witnessed in jail in the short time I was in there (16 hrs). This one girl came in there because she also shoplifted an inflatable bed that she needed for her new apartment she just moved into. Another lady called her family crying because the officers in jail told her they were going to deport her. Her kids were devastated. She was so hurt and almost screaming to the top of her lungs because she was leaving her children behind. People have a conscious no matter what they do, so they had a reason why they did what they did. After I got out, I took that with me and I no longer wanted my old life back. I have went back to God three times prior, had a falling out and then managed to get myself back together, but this time I was determined to just change. Previous times, I still felt like I didn’t need God after I changed and thought that I was the one who helped myself to change. I was still full of myself back then and thought I would be fine. My name hasn’t changed, but my personality changed. Some of the things I used to enjoy, they changed. Even now, I am still changing things because it doesn’t happen over night. I say still keep persevering and in this case pray with all your heart. It’s easy sometimes to get all “Yeah yeah I know but when I pray I feel nothing.” I know how that is, used to feel like that too, but I still would start out praying this way: Thank God for everything (waking up, having another day to live, for family, things you are grateful for having), then ask God for the people that are suffering and are in need (take time to pray for family members, friends, etc), then lastly pray about what you need, want, everything. Be honest. Honesty is the biggest thing that can help us while we pray. It can be simple things like help me go throughout today or I need a job. It can be more complex like I need you to change me or I want you to help me get through this tribulation. End it with I put this all in your hands Lord, Amen. If you want, you can just go straight to the point too, but be open. It’s really easy to restrain yourself because you are ashamed or embarrassed, but know it’s okay. God won’t be upset with you. If you feel like crying, do cry. If you want to yell, do it. It’s all part of when you pray. I really hope that this helps and that you find what you are seeking.
