This is the first of a two part video from a job I started back in early 2020 with an EICR on the property then it's various updates and repairs. Today I'm back 18 months later to finally finish the job. (Part 2 of this video is a bit longer and might have silly dancing in it?)
A lot has happened since I was last here and many issues I just didn't film as i needed to get on with the job.
B&Q - Installing these type of lights can be frustrating I'm sure I'm not the only one who looks at these fittings and the connections and thinks GREAT !! another birds nest to tidy up before the fitting will sit nicely on the ceiling?
As always thank you for watching, commenting, sharing and maybe even liking?
Please don't use hand sanitiser to clean paint off cables! Use the painters tea bag before he makes a brew.
THIS VIDEO IS FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY AND NOT TO BE TAKEN AS ANY KIND OF TRAINING OR EDUCATIONAL PRESENTATION. AT ALL TIMES I AM IN FULL CONTROL OF THE INSTALLATION AND THERE IS NEVER ANY RISK TO PERSONS OR EQUIPMENT. ELECTRICITY SHOULD BE GIVEN THE FULL RESPECT IT DESERVES.

Great video, I hate to be "that guy" but it is a pet peeve of mind when tradesmen stand on your shower trade with their boots on. Had to have my shower tray replaced because it was marked badly because a stone was lodged in the sole of his boot, massive job to replace needing the tiles to be removed as well.

Regarding the small hole in the Luceco light's base, I guess it's made for a global market. Over here (NL) it's common practice to run circuits from the DB to boxes in the ceiling, central to a room. Basically these boxes double up as fixing point for the lighting and as a JB, usually the cover has a provision for hanging a pendant on it. From there you drop down to sockets and switches and perhaps loop through to the next room. No ring circuits (of course) but also no "dedicated" circuits (lighting and sockets share the circuits). All connections are made inside those boxes in the ceiling, and not in the lighting fixture itself. So there will only be two or three wires going through that hole in most of the world. P.S. Hmm, I just noticed it says "James Beck ElectricΩl" on your logo...

Sockets and lights on the same circuit? The same breaker?
@Lenny-kt2th
@Lenny-kt2th 2 года назад
@@JBE Yes, for houses not wired with home automation in mind, that is the common practice. In the past a blown fuse or tripped MCB would indeed mean a large part of the house went dark. Things have changed to alleviate this nuiscance. Nowadays, there are more circuits installed and more than one per room, but still lighting and sockets share the breakers most of the time. On newer installations, devices drawing more than 2 kW must have a dedicated circuit. Circuits are max 16 A and max 4 per RCD. Devices drawing more than 3.7 kW (there's an exception I won't go into) can only be run from three phase power which we have come into the houses by default (but may need the utility companies to make changes to the main fuses and kWh meters in older buildings).

Had a few of those luceco fittings fail on me, won’t use them now but that was couple of years ago, maybe better now
@JBE
@JBE 2 года назад
I've had various brands and makes stop working over the years. The circumstances vary depending on where they're installed and usage. In some cases I have the customer buy extra fittings at the time of installation and I never give them a guarantee from myself if they choose the product.

Isnt the small box inside the fitting what makes it double insulated? So if a cable comes loose its incased in plastic. Didnt think the wires afterward had anything to do with it?
@JBE
@JBE 2 года назад
Yeah they do make things tricky to get these things installed, the best option is to sleeve the single insulated cables. Otherwise you're in the loft putting everything in maintenance free boxes.

It seems every light fitting these days has that configuration, a load of rubbish. The terminal layout on those fittings is the best type just like the JCC V50, makes life so much easier, why every manufacturer has not adopted that layout is beyond me.
@JBE
@JBE 2 года назад
Agreed however there's the added issue of testing after the lights are installed. For that it's best to link all the cables up, IR test then connect the lights. I actually had an issue with the bathroom lights as I had clipped through one of the cables 😬🤘.
