I am writing this today on Easter Sunday 2015. It really doesn't seem like a whole nine years since I watched this when broadcast live in 2006. During that long time, in fact every Easter since, I have tried to obtain the visual record of this production, but to no avail. Apparently it never made it to DVD - such a shame. Can you believe my amazement and relief that this year I find the complete production on RU-vid. I can't thank the uploader enough - thank you, thank you, thank you! The live show, a modern musical take on the Passion play but keeping to the original story as told, was extremely well done and quite enthralling. Now at last, future generations can enjoy and appreciate it. The quality of the video isn't quite up to the standard we expect today, especially in full screen mode, but if this is the only record of the show we have, then I'm perfectly happy to overlook that.
I can't understand why the BBC has not released this on a DVD or Bluray. I have looked many times. I am an ardent atheist and would buy it - watched it live in 2006.
We watched this in our RE class and we had a sub. It was complete silence except for Judas singing and then he started singing really high and we all died with laughter XDDDDDDDD
Thank you so much for putting this on, I too have been looking for this ever since I watched it the first time it aired, can't wait to watch the Preston Passion on Good Friday!
Good Friday 2018. 31,559 views. 2017-8 4,118 views. 2016-7 4,869 views. 2015-6 6,303 views. If one person sees this and gets some insight into what it's all about, then it's worth it. Thanks Eddie!
That was amazing!!!!!!!!!!!! Im from Preston and this beats the Preston Passion by Miiiiillllleeeessssss!! Preston Passion is dire compared to this WELL DONE MANCHESTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am from Preston and took part in it and I even think this 1 was better traffic wise as in Preston we only had 2 locations and buses cars was still passing Were supposed be doing one like this in 2016 thats moving
That is brilliant. Who would have thought the only person who has ever explained crucifixion to me would be Lily Allen's dad? From 2006 so now seven years old. This year I appreciated the SPQR branding round Pilate and on the riot squad van, and first noticed that, for the big finale, everyone is celebrating Jesus's EPIC WIN at Easter although he is no longer physically with them. Easter record: watch?v=4MyJHh451Y4
I can't believe this has been a one time activity in Manchester! Or is it annual, but was it only broadcasted once? We've sort of 'adopted' the concept in The Netherlands and have just enjoyed the 5th edition. It still attracks more viewers each year. It continues to move me...
Robert Tolhurst I don't know when you have posted this, I just now noticed the 'message'... In case your question is still 'valid': last Thursday we have had the 6th edition of The Passion in the Netherlands. And actually, just last week the first US version was done in the US (New Orleans) on Fox (we have just watched the Replay on Fox Europe) - pretty powerful performances of f.e. Seal. I kept thinking however how awesome a UK version would be, with all the musical talent there, and not as 'commercial' as in the US. You can find clips from the US version on RU-vid, just searching 'The Passion USA'. There are many Dutch clips through 'The Passion 2015' (or '... 2014' etc) - but the songs are all in Dutch... I personally find the 2012 and 2013 editions the most impressive, both in location and in performances. But then again, I speak Dutch.... :-)
Good Friday 2020 total was 40,113 (2,000 of which seem to have been in the last two days). 2019 was 36,634. So even though the audience is in lockdown views are down to 3,479, the lowest in five years! Someone else has put this up though.
I love the up to date 'in your face' style of this passion play in the centre of Manchester. Well done for putting this on in a country that is fast being dictated to by Islam. This is a love story to end all love stories. A God who loves YOU so much he paid for OUR sin by taking the wrath of God upon Himself. He LOVES YOU and aches to have a relationship with you. The cross was His means to make that possible.
I can't believe that, after 11 months on RU-vid, this excellent programme has only had just over 2,000 views and 8 comments. The only good thing ever on BBC3 lol. The interviews are a bit like a spoof. "So - you are a Nigerian pastor?" "Yes - Jesus died for us on the cr..." "Super. Now back to Pontius Pilate in the studio". It never struck me that the singing was not live but it is so perfect, it must be pre-recorded. And is Lily Allen's dad typecast as Pilate lol?
So much better than what we have to look at every year in The Netherlands. The snackbar, the Quantanamo Bay orange overall; all the best parts are taken out nowadays and the delivery lacks wit and is too static. And Manchester has better music and lyrics. The most passionate Passion is this first one. The audience is better too.
Just want you to know, God is real. Jesus did happen and wants you to receive him in your life. He's been my best friend for over 68 years. Only person incapable of letting you down. Honest. I have no reason to lie.
Preston one was better- because manchester passion just stuck to the story and only had a 14 people involved, We can we had other 3000 involved with the choir, dancers, active audience, audience, and the people in dramas
+Lars Hoeijmans Have they ever done one with Focus and Golden Earring? I would love to see everyone with their heads down, plotting to kill Jesus, then Pilate looks up and says "pom pom!"
thankyou2532 yes, look at the channel named: "The Passion". But its only dutch songs so you won't understand it. But the US version is also great and you can understand that one (i think)
