Michel Petrucciani (28 December 1962, Orange, Vaucluse, France -- 6 January 1999, New York City, USA) was a French jazz pianist. Afflicted from birth with osteogenesis imperfecta, a genetic disease that causes brittle bones and, in his case, short stature, he became one of the most accomplished jazz pianists of his generation, despite having arms which caused him pain.

AN ABSOLUTE MASTERPIECE!!! I actually have the cassette I purchased in 1990 in my hand at this very moment! It's always somewhat surreal to me when I find, and get to view the video performances of iconic cuts such as this. It's my favorite cut off the album!

Absolutely. Of all the tracks on this album, Nefertiti stands above the rest and can drive me to tears on the right day.

Thanks for uploading this interpretation! One of the best things in the '90's So good it almost made me loose my religion; I'll have to wait until tomm. night to listen to it a few times or more.

Have watched this video hundreds of time when I was a teenager... Always wondered what was wrong with Shorter/Petrucciani. WS looks unhappy with his own solo and he is not playing the music game MP is calling him to play, looks embarassing to watch them. MP is a genius in this band and I feel sorry to see how desperate and isolated he looks... No word to describe Clarke 2nd solo, I am speechless...

From MP I sense this sort of show off mentality in the part where he starts to chase Waynes ideas with his piano comping. And I think that throws Wayne off. When Wayne plays with Herbie, it's not about chasing each other with this "hey look at me, I'm so sharp that I can repeat what you do" kind of mentality. How would you feel in a conversation, where you provide the material and the other person just repeats you words? :D

@@tuomas3964 i have a different opinion from you on this (which is fine! 😉). As a musician I precisely see jazz as an opportunity to « play » and interact with my fellow musicians. I don’t see this as showing off but rather as the essence of music really…

I never really understood Wayne Shorter's sound. I think he is too sophisticated for my ears. I can't appreciate it.

I'm going nuts every single time that I listen those celestial synthS. I never get used to jazz fusion and mixed genres. Although, here it is an astonishing exception.

He's the only one that really seems to be genuinely having fun. This an iconic piece to me!!! If you can't see there was some obvious beef goin' on between Wayne and Stanley, then you blind. They had some words before that set went down. Although I could be wrong about that?

@@lxolxo7 Yes, I totally agree. I bet Wanye isn't happy about the tones Stanley plays under the changes, and also probably doesn't appreciate the ridiculously unmusical wanking he does when he plays the bass solo.
