As somebody who's worked in both seedy dive bars and an emergency room I'm just astounded with how convincingly Roddy portrays a homeless person with obvious psychological and substance abuse issues. His scenes are played for laughs but he absolutely nails the cadence of speech, the disjointed thought process, and the violent mood swings of countless street people I've encountered over the years, including ones who were as big and strong and frighteningly unstable as him.
No he wasn't. Wrestling is a business where you can make it if you are in the right place at the right time and have luck on your size. This isn't Roddy Piper acting....this is an inside look into an alternate universe of who Roddy Piper would be if he never achieved superstardom lol
2:29--I know it's parodying The Wrestler, I know they're joking about overly-dramatic wandering types, but DAMN, the way Roddy delivers that still gets me.
@@nighttray1489 That shift in facial expression right before "Nah, not anymore" was so much more than was necessary in a sitcom where he played a razor wire- and chestnut-wielding, slur-spouting one-off character.
The first guy they see the Maniac fighting is former MMA fighter Don Frye, whose fight against Yoshihiro Takayama is considered to be one of the best of all time.
“I love you guy’s, you remind me of my kids!” “You got kids maniac?” (Long pause” “Naw…..not anymore…” “What the hell is that supposed to mean?” Funny shit!
@@basharshalabi2129 dude lmao how did you keep a straight face also whenever I get pissed driving I'm going to say some lines from what Dennis said to help he relax
I never noticed until this compilation that the unpaid ticket that he gets arrested for is that same one he gives them with his Autograph on it. That's a clever callback.
Lol all the small details are what makes always sunny one of the best shows. The way dennis looks behind him before he counts all the cash to pay maniac.
A bucket of chestnuts??? What is he FORAGING for his food!! I always cracked up super hard at this knowing in some dark alley in a parked stationwagon, Maniac is getting all lubed up and cracking chestnuts with his bare hands, eating the inside like a squirrel would.
So fun fact a fun once stabbed Roddy on his way to the ring so ever since he's had a gun with him everywhere he went no matter what. He'd even go to the ring with it tucked into his leather jacket, how this ties in to the show is that he literally has the gun in his jacket in every scene he's in. Rob confirmed it on the podcast and explained how Roddy would conceal it in a way that even security doing a pat down could find it
I despise that roddy piper was never given more and better acting roles. I'm not even a fan of wrestling, I'm just a fan of the acting roles I've seen him in and he is very good.
Love how I was watching the old blockbuster commercial with the hamster dancing to I'm a maniac and RU-vid was like hey we know you like it's always sunny..
