Like that guy sneaking the Lick into a performance in front of the president of Finland. It's fun little jokes for people in the know, I quite like it.
Yeah, it's cool to see this technique in action with more modern music references. I can't remember which song but on the album "Made Possible" by The Bad Plus, they work in the underworld theme from classic Mario games
Still don’t know and I’m not sure I want to know. I assume it’s like a riff, but I like thinking that licking the saxophone makes a specific noise, because while it is obviously not the case, it sounds funny.
The fact that you snuck that into an actual concert is such a madlad move. Good on you for figuring out how to play it! Ima have to learn this on my trumpet.
@@mexicanweeb231 I guarantee you, as a jazz artist myself, professional players never go into a solo with no idea what they are going to be playing. Most players across all levels of playing predetermine some licks they will play, this video itself is proof of that
SCHOOL! The answer is I don't go! Why go? I am famous. I am famous. I have more fans than fingers multiplied with toes multiplied with teeth multiplied with ears. I am famous. I am famous. SCHOOL? No, thanks. RU-vid FAME? Yes. Good day, dear pay
@@Psykel Of the 16 original tracks introduced in the base original game, I'd put Dolphin Shoals in dead last place. Now, some of the subsequent Wii U and Switch DLC probably changes that. I hated racing Dolphin Shoals in 2014 and I hate it in 2023. I just don't like it. Never have.
My band director never encouraged this stuff, but we always managed to do it on our own to annoy him. He always had super uncreative solos and seemed to like the people who stayed that way, but I was a rebellious type who never did that. Made jazz band a lot more enjoyable.
@@CubCadetMan71 Really what’s the point of music if you’re not experimenting. I wish I did more of that in HS band. Now I have no motivation to play at all lol. Maybe I’ll pick the horn back up one day. It’s always waiting…
@@CubCadetMan71 i feel like that doesn't fit with the jazz spirit. i'm no expert but jazz feels unchained by rules and such, so it sucks that some people would stop others from getting creative
I like how you're so concentrated on the race and then all of a sudden you hear that and then everything about winning the race just goes out the window
@@donaldlarrimoreIII Very true, my friends and I have figured out how to play multiple songs from Spongebob and Minecraft, as well as Megalovania. If only I had marching band so that we could figure out some more tunes (it was cancelled this year, D:)...
One of my friends snuck the among us lick on his sax solo. Most legendary thing ever. The only problem was, I was the drummer and I almost skipped an entire beat due to the unexpected meme o_o
the lick is played by Katsuta Kazuki. He plays the sax of all of the Mario kart 8 music. His band "DIMENSION" is also super. I want you guys to listen it. (sorry bad English)
i wanna be like this guy, bold enough to use a lick from _mario kart_ in an _actual jazz solo._ what makes it even better is that someone _recognized_ it too. not gonna lie, this is one of the coolest things i've seen in a while.
Jamirec that’s stupid imo, my when I was in high school we had horns and flutes and even a tuba player at one point. I would recommend learning saxophone on your situation as the fingerings aren’t too different.
A similar thing happened to me actually. I was playing Twilight Princess when I heard Midna’s Lament and I decided to practice it on the piano. I ended up playing it for the spring concert this year and received a huge round of applause! 👏😎
The trombonists reaction (to the right of him) is so freaking priceless. His face says it all. And what is he saying? "Is this guy really doing the Mario Kart lick again?"
Nah. They have to rehearse it so I'm sure they all talked about what he was gonna do beforehand. I think it was moreso the coolness of hearing it being performed
Like probably a lot of people given I don't own a Switch or Wii U, whichever it is, I was put onto this tune by that RU-vid channel that did a video about it, and ended up tracking down and buying a copy of the game's soundtrack for it. It's a *lot* of very nice sax playing in one and a half minutes.
I read this (or another version of this) comment the last time I was here and thought the guy playing the lick in the video had passed. Now, however many months on I'm only just finding out it's not the case
I’ve been practicing this for a month now and my time has come to unleash the powers of the good lord himself at my concert tomorrow. May waluigi be with me 😤
Evan Christman we have a jazz competition for high school called essentially Ellington and we’re supposed to play old swing charts, preferably by duke himself. Our director always reminds the soloists that they didn’t use microphones back then, so we should be able to solo without them
Today, we lost a titan of the music world. However, he fulfilled his role on Earth to levels most of us will only ever dream of, and his artistry will live on for the rest of history. R.I.P. Chick Corea 🙏🏽 **Edit: For people who don’t know Chick Corea, he is the writer of the tune Spain, which is played in this video. I am not dead, and my name is Nathan Graybeal
Fun fact: The sax you hear out of the water in Dolphin Shoals is a real saxophone. Real instruments and a live band were used to make Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s music
Anyone who thinks VGM isn't worthy of a real instrument has never heard their favorite game being played by a symphony. It's a killer lick. You gotta ride it.
I always watch this video when it pops up on my recommended, no matter how often I’ve watched it. And now it’s January 1st of 2023. What a good way to start the year.
I always come back to this video because this guy is living one of my most desired dreams which is getting praised by an audience for playing a videogame music lick or verse that i would never be good enough to compose myself.
I played piano in a jazz band for a pretty short time but it was my own running joke to randomly throw in the Steven Universe song “Love Like You” every time I had a solo Whether it fit at all or not
In High School one of my jazz instructors snuck the opening riff of “Smells Like Teen Spirits” into a solo and it was so much fun. This reminded me of that. Nicely done!
Dolphin Shoals has such amazing music, it low key feels out of place to hear in a video game. It's like it feels just like a regular song a jazz group might play, instead of it sounding as if from a videogame. I absolutely love it!
