I saw Steve playing this guitar last weekend and couldn't figure out what guitar it was. It sounded beautiful especially when Steve played Purple Rain solo. It gave me goosebumps. This guitar is the best I have heard from Steve. Unlike the PRSs this cut through the mix by miles.
Suhr will make a guitar that is much closer to a Knopfler spec, but you have to custom order it. The Knopfler guitar has a solid figured maple body and a carved top. Also, Suhr no longer uses the PLEK machines. They went back to doing fret work by hand using a neck tensioning jig. Regardless, the frets are very consistently well done in their guitars.
Yeah! Sounds just like Knopfler! Seeing Steve play that guitar makes me think of the sound on Knopfler’s Golden Heart song. Whilst it’s probably not a guitar I’ve ever coveted, I gotta admit to liking it here. Thanks guys, great vid, and made it to the very end.
Exactly my problem with my Valley Arts Custom Pro, the 85 emg humbucker isn’t splittable. Then you need a 89. I really like position 4 (middle/bridge) on a strat.
Tried one of these last week in guitar guitar Glasgow! Looked very pretty, unfortunately I didn’t think it did the single coil thing as well as my silver sky / Strat and the overdriven humbucker thing as well as my CS les Paul. Very tempted by a carve top but they are very expensive!
Yeh your always going to be making a compromise there when your used to such fine examples of each specific sound - thats why sound wise it wouldn’t be my choice either. Thanks man
