I live in El Paso (Omar and Cedric's hometown) and Dr.Rodriguez's (Omar's Dads) house burned down, their studio flooded, and Omar's mom had a stroke. This all occurred within weeks of each other. Rumor has it they believe it was due to the spirits from the Ouija board, the spirits started becoming malicious and caused these events to occur. Btw, Omar's mom died two weeks ago. I know Omar's dad, and I was fortunate enough to see them in At the Drive In last Thursday in our hometown. :)
I’m still really skeptical though. If Cedric and Omar know that this spirit is capable of ruining lives, why in the world would they release this album to the world (bringing all who listen to it into the curse) and even going as far as to replicate the board and tell their fans to play with it? Or do they just not care about cursing their fans?
That specific microphone doesn't do anything special, it just sounds very good and very clear. It's called a Sennheiser MD 421-II and it's a dynamic microphone, like most standard stage mics. However, unlike most stage mics, it costs about $400 and it's designed for mainy studio use. So, it's built with a higher quality which better captures Cedric's voice.
The first dude Paul has some deep shit knowledge. He was basically asking them if they were (are) satanist, cause the dark and obscure references in their lyrics (Samael, baphomets, ouija, devil references, etc) and the stressful music. Cedric answered pretty well actually, he caught the depth of her question but answered superficially. At first Omar seemed a little nervous and couldn't look at Paul and looked at Cedric in some "ditch this" way. For connoisseurs it was a very good question
Goliath was such a powerful album for them. And the whole studio flooding and crazyness with the ouji board and all that...in. Hindsight i think that alot of what the albums about seems to be kind of...exagerated but iremember in that year thinking woah this is some scary shit..ithink thats what made it so powerful, for a moment u believed in monsters again
1:26 Gentlemen, my name is Matt, and I'm going to spend the next thirty seconds staring like a psycho and making unsettling hand gestures that will haunt you for the rest of the day
Did anyone see the vulcan hand gesture Cedric made at the last dude? Was that like an insult on his appearance for looking like a Star Trek fan...or like a "Dude I know you're an alien too," kind of thing? Dave looked really nervous made me laugh when Cedric messed with him. He should have answered "Hello Cedric" in a deep voice I think that would have threw them off.....or it would have been challenging Cedric to deep trollish voice battle. That'd be awesome.
1:35 i was skeptical at first, but now i know 100% that the whole goliath story, the destruction of equipment the people that left, was all a cover up for a marketing stunt, this confirms it. Doesent mean that that terrible stuff didint happen, but it means that the story behind it isint true. And happened for other reasons. Explains why almost nobody knew about the ouja board other than a very small group of people. The story was a marketing stunt. And theres nothing wrong woth that. As long as they agnowlage it as such.
I've been to their shows...and i swear i was the only person not on Acid, and therefore the only person actually just watching them rather than just being a twat and trying to experience them in some ridiculous psychedelic sense like that first guy.
@@keaton223 i would have to disagree with that man , I love Omar and Cedric but it’s unfortunate that they never include the rest of the members for interviews or pictures because even though they are the main dudes , The Mars Volta would not sound the same without any of the other members , every member adds something to the sound of the band. I mean just think of Ikey , Juan who are solid in the band , Jons drumming , but idk just my opinion
