Apparently the steel guitar used in this wasn’t even tuned properly as it was purchased the same day of the recording and no one had any idea how to tune a lap steel in the studio.
@@katrinamaniscalco6821 I like BOTH kinds of music....Country AND Western! Actually, my tastes run quite wide and I like at least SOME of most anything...and, I'm 83.
I was listening to this song when I had my heart attack in 2017. Doctors gave me a 50/50 chance of survival. Well, here I am in 2022 listening to this song again . . .
Great Band!!! Brings back so many memories!!!! I play this over and over. Who is with me in August 2020??? Ok, I am still here in the July 2023 since I started this post, glad to see folks still hangin' with me!!!
This song is about a guy whose life is miserable, and then he's murdered for nothing at the end of it. I have no idea how you got 'life was easy' out of that.
Here is a list of Southern rock bands: Lynyrd Skynyrd ZZ Top The Allman Brothers Band 38 Special Black Oak Arkansas Outlaws The Marshall Tucker Band Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers Molly Hatchet
This was my boyfriend, Jeff's, favorite band (in 1974) along with New Riders of the Purple Sage. Jeff's gone now. He was my one true love. Rest in peace Jeff.
I love NRPS!!! Their album Panama Red was the soundtrack to my travels back and forth from Humboldt County, CA and Tulsa, OK when I was 19. Marshall Tucker rips!!! Sorry for your loss! Jeff lives on through this music!
Only two bands could rock the flute like it belonged there, and they were literally worlds apart: MTB and Jethro Tull. It takes guts to be different, and it takes talent to make it work. Both bands had both in spades!
I recall Lars Ulrich saying in 1992 at the Grammys that he was thankful Jethro Tull hadn't put out an album that year. They had previously beat out Metallica for an award.
We need to get this country back to the grass roots of what we were founded on.. Vote for what you feel is right for this country. Always keep your values close to your heart. And think about men and women that gave their lives protecting the U.S.
My youngest son and I are both wildland firefighters for different departments, we went to sawyer school together in Colorado a couple years ago. This song was playing on the radio as we drove through NM on our way to the school. Always loved this song, now I have that memory of us travelling to training together.
RIP to your father, Morgan - mine has been gone eleven years in October. I imagine a depressing number of us here have lost parents since those days when Marshall Tucker rode so high.
My dad died in July so it's been a rough six months. I randomly listened to this song then sent it to my mom and three brothers the other night and said "this reminds me of Dad." Turns out my mom was in a bar and this song was playing at the same time. And before hearing about it, my aunt woke in the middle of the night and randomly listened to it. Just when you believe life is nothing other than existence.
Ive got the same kinda situation. My sister and I share songs back and forth. Its amazing. Close your eyes while listening, and you'll find time travel does exist. Just not in the parameters we thought. I hope you find peace.
This is still music that Can’t be out done, there is magic when Toy played that can not be duplicated, thanks for the one of the best Southern Rock bands to ever play, like Skynyrd, these guys were the best of the best!!! I’m thankful to be able to still hear them play, anybody else?
Me also!We had our problems but we worked together for the good of this nation and it’s people! WHAT HAPPENED! One thing is the music changed everyone today seems to think it’s me me me instead of us!
Saw them at Red Rocks in 1978. They rolled the backdrop down with the stage coach scene right when a full moon came up over the stage. Never will forget it. Got married 1 week later. Still going strong.
That intro is so fucking powerful man, i love how the second you hear it you’re instantly captivated and before you know it your being weaved into the bands story
Back in 1977 I had just gotten out of the Marines and I was working at the 7-11 store in Daytona Beach Shores Florida down the road from Gregg Allman's Mom. The guys from Marshall Tucker used to hang out around there with Gregg Allman. The Marshall Tucker Band was a bunch of really nice guys. They'd come into the store and stay and talk to me for awhile. One of them even came in once to apologize for Gregg Allman's drunken rage in the store the night before.
All yall have me by over twenty years but I'm with yall 100%! Some of the greatest music of all time! I just wish the real Marshal Tucker Band & the real Lynyrd Skynyrd had been able to have lasted longer. God bless all those that have left this world to rock the Heavens!
To all the mountain folks who lost families in this year worst floods,my on mountain blood WV,my heart goes on to you.fire on the mountain saids it all.😢
My mom had a fantastic stereo with these huge speakers that shook the walls and I remember many a night in the 70's and early 80's as her and her friends partied the night away as I was in the bed supposedly sleeping listening to this song and many others on vinyl. Good memories. Wish there was great bands like this nowadays
Folks need to listen and appreciate fine songs like Fire on the Mountain. No screaming and hollering. You can understand every word. Good music, like a previous comment, God bless Charlie Daniels too! I had the honor of personally meeting that fine man in Minnesota several years ago. Rest in peace friend.
The music of the 60s and 70s was of a quality and caliber that will never be repeated. Every song is a hit, with so much soul coming through every note. This one in particular reminds me of my dad. I miss him a lot every single day.
If I was on death's doorstep and I had five songs to hear before I checked out, this song damn sure would be one of them.! This version is perfect in every aspect. One of the greatest songs of all time.
Saw these guys live, either as headliners or with Skynyrd, at least 6-8 times. They were always more than excellent. Coke was an amazing thing. Even when Van Zandt fell off the stage and hit his head, in Charlotte, these guys came back out , teamed up with the Skynyrd band, and jammed for almost 3 hours. It was an awesome night and memory
I saw them in Sacramento headlining for Elvin Bishop and Skynyrd in1975 I think it was. Elvin Bishop came out and jammed with Marshall Tucker, but Skynyrd didn't.
Took my fam'ly away from our Carolina home Had dreams about the west and started to roam Six long months on a dust covered trail They say heaven's at the end But so far it's been hell And there's fire on the mountain Lightening in the air Gold in them hills and it's waiting for me there We were digging and shifting from five to five Selling ev'rything we found just to stay alive Gold flowed free like the whiskey in the bars Sinning was the big thin Lord And satan was the star And there's fire on the mountain Lightening in the air Gold in them hills and it's waiting for me there Dance hall girls were the evening treat Empty cartridges and blood lined the gutters of the street Men were shot down for the sake of fun Or just to hear the noise of their 44 guns And there's fire on the mountain Lightening in the air Gold in them hills and it's waiting for me there Now my widow, she weeps by my grave Tears flow free for her man she couldn't save Shot down in cold blood by a gun that carried fame All for a useless and no good worthless claim And there's fire on the mountain Lightening in the air Gold in them hills and it's waiting for me there
Late 1970s Jacksonville, NC neighbors had company roll in frequently (not to be named MC). They always came over to listen to this song. Stomping their feet, turntable needle skipping. Good memories. Hope you still racing with the wind. Respect begets respect.
My brother and I listened to Marshall tucker for a long long time he passed away at at 54 from cancer never smoked battled cancer fight for 16 years! My son is in the Air Force got to meet lead singer and get a picture!!! Makes me smile and cry thank you Marshall tucker love you!!
I'm sorry for the lost. I love his songs that I kept playing over and over again, Marshall Tucker sang wisely and beautiful songs. How are you doing Pat?
My kin folk who shredded blood for 🇺🇲.. introduced me to this Tune Many Moon's ago. Also i sure as heck love the grateful Dead version "Fire on the mountain" Cheer's Brothers & Sisters Keep on trucking 🤝
Certified welder 👨🏭 for 37 years on structural steel. Traveling the south east all these years. Charleston, South Carolina is very nice 👍. Columbia & more. Charlotte. Keep on Rocking Marshall tucker band!
Just seen them at Carnegie Music Hall south side of Pittsburgh. I just turned 64 and the last time I seen them was 1977. What great music they created in their songs. It’s here for ever! Thanks for the talent and the memories.
Most ghostly, haunting pedal steel I have ever heard!!! This is a true masterpiece folks... listen carefully please. Perhaps more haunting is the fact not only the talented gentleman who did pedal steel here died VERY young, but his 2 brothers as well. Very discouraging story indeed.
Your revolution is over. Condolences. The bums lost. My advice is to do what your parents did; get a job, sir. The bums will always lose. Do you hear me? The bums will always lose!
@@creativenative218 I hope that my wife will someday learn to live on her allowance, which is ample, but if she doesn't sir, that will be her problem, not mine, just as your job is your problem, just as every bum's lot in lfe is his own responsibility regardless of whom he chooses to blame. I didn't blame anyone for the loss of my legs, some Chinamaman took them from me in Korea, but I went out and achieved anyway. I can't solve your problems, sir, only you can.

Love Marshall Tucker. This song sealed the deal. Along with Lynrd Skynyrd, Charlie Daniels, The allman Brothers, ZZ Top, 38 special, little feat. Blackfoot and others. Love that Southern Rock..
Jimi Bonez mine too. He loved this song and played it when he would take me packing in the forest with our horses. I lost him a few months ago to suicide. RIP
My favorite song of 1975! Holds a lot of memories. The year I graduated High School, began College, and then my life changed forever, lost my brother in a car wreck on the 6th day of December of that same year. Still love the song but when I listen to it I overflow with bitter sweet memories.
Saw them with Atlanta Rhythm Section at a rodeo in Ventura CA , haybales as seats in the dirt under a moonlit night suckin up on a bottle of JD chased down with Buds enjoying sounds with my shipmates in ' 79 . Listening to this tugs at my heart strings , could always see this in my mind playing out for real in the west somewhere. So glad I grew up in an era that was so much better . God bless y'all .
Saw them at Merriweather Post Pavillion, can't remember the year, '70 something (duh). Went with a group, we took five gallons of Tequila Sunrise, if that wasn't nice I don't know what is. Best of times.
My late husband was very into his music, We loved, Marshall tucker Band, Charlie Daniels band,...Not main stream in Australia in the 80’s, memories a bit fuzzy, but love this style of music
This brings memories of driving with my grandma hella early in the morning listening to ktnn going to feed her live stock. Like the sun is barely coming out early. Ahhhh memories.

We had this album in the 70's when it was released. We loved playing it over and over. I haven't heard this in years. Thanks to who ever shared this today.
I had a 1975 International Scout and added a cheapo tape deck and speakers. I had this album on cassette and played the crap out of it riding down the road. The good ole days.
this song makes me think of God, spirits, forces of mankind as life happens. inspirations and chains of events. and how deep into trouble you can get, when all you was trying to do is better your family in life.
Scrolling through the comments brings a tear to my eye , just how awesome this music sounds and touches our souls . It will bring people together of all races because life's to be had by all and it's quite a journey .
Man.. everytime I hear this song.. I’m from South Carolina and I can’t seem to think I would have done the same thing over 150 years ago. Move out west for hopes of making generational wealth. It’s hard now for the 80 hr a week common working man here in today’s time.. I couldn’t imagine what it was like back then
Galveston brought me here but when I was about 7 years old this band hopped off a tour bus near Toledo, OH and crossed my path. I didn’t think much of it then but it’s a little full circle for me now.
