What a story about the two Mary. And yes you must get to Witney Antiques. Becky is such a wonderful host and owner. Like a museum only better, you can purchase everything! Hope you get to visit. Mary is my perfect size to stitch! Loved your chat today.
Thank you! Yes, I really want to visit - we don't get to go to the UK too often, and when we do we usually have a strict short schedule. I really need to plan in a proper visit to Whitney when I go next... :D
Wow! Jacob, what an amazing story, total serendipity to find the second sampler, so exquisitely framed. And the sampler itself is so wonderful and tempting to stitch. Lovely to see Mira too. She just needed some loving from daddy. 😂
Thank you Tere! I still can't believe my luck in getting those two together again. As for Mira - she just loves to jump right on my lap as soon as she hears me talking! She does it when I'm on the phone as well :D.
Hi Jakob! What a wonderful story and you reunited the two samplers together. I think it was destiny! I love the sampler and maybe I can stitch it for the blessing sampler next January. Your cat Mira is so sweet, she is adorable. I like people that love animals! Happy Stitching!
Thank you! Mary is a very fun small stitch - not too heavy at all which is great :). And yes, Mira I'm sure will poke her head around the corner in future episodes as I've changed the studio setup a little (and they like to sleep in my studio when I work :)).
Mira is so cute. ❤ Wow! So glad you were able to reunite the two samplers. I've seen too many listings online where 'sister' or pair samplers are sold separately. So glad that Witney had the other! We are planning a trip to Scotland/England next year and Witney is on my list. Have a wonderful day!
Thank you! Mira says "hi" :D. As for splitting up collections of sisters or sister pair samplers - it's always so sad... I recently bought seven samplers purely on the basis that I *think* they might be from the same family. It was the same seller that sold them through an auction, but they might not be related after all. They were really lovely though, and I didn't want to split them up... :P
Loved your story of the two samplers. Maybe Mary was the original Serial Starter? I used to live within 20 miles of Witney in Oxfordshire until I came home to Wales nearly 20 years ago. Love your little kitty, great purring 🐈⬛
Stunning pieces Jakob ♥️♥️ I love both … possibly she stitched them for Family.. love your kitty girl.. I could hear her purring ..♥️♥️ Take care.. Blessings, 🎄❄️🙏🌍♥️🤗♥️
@@ModernFolkEmbroidery Indeed Jakob she’s soooooo attached to you ♥️ I love kitty’s. But I’m highly allergic sadly:-(( can’t even breathe around them without having an asthma attack, but I still love on them.♥️ Big dogs 🐕 are my go to pets .. thank you for always acknowledging my comments as you do with others, your very ♥️ considerate that way.. I have to catch up on your last 2 music shares.. Blessings 🎄❄️🎄🙏🌍🤗
Amazing that you found two. Perhaps they were gifts for grandparents or it was the only pattern she had available. I do love a mystery! Your cat is so sweet and that purr!❤
Thank you Nancy! I do think they were planned as gifts for grandparents or nieces or something... I hope to one day find out more about her! Mire has a very loud purr - I was really happy that the microphone caught her! :D
What an amazing discovery in these two samplers! It’s so fun to hypothesize on the mystery of why there are two. I feel like these would make lovely gifts for two people, I’m thinking of my mom and my aunt, one each!
Yes Carmen - I agree! I think that is exactly what Mary did as well. And perhaps Mary was an adult woman gifting it to some cousins or something like that... I think that would be a lovely thought :D. Hopefully one day I'll find out a little more! :)
How fascinating! I am glad the samplers are safely together now with you. Perhaps she did stitch them as gifts seeing that the verse is different. At any rate, the chart is in my cart and I am off to pay. Bought the SALentine pdf but never received an email. I was able to download it from your site. Now I am going to want to start this instead of working on Lammigien Pot. So many beautiful choices. Mira is so sweet. She patiently but insistently wants to sit with you during flosstubes. Happy flossmas 🧵
Thank you Heidi! It's so weird that no email was sent out - is it perhaps hidden in your spam folder? Glad you got the file though - that's good. Mira is really funny - as soon as I start to talk she thinks I'm talking to her :D.
What an amazing pair, Jacob. How fortunate for you to have found the second one. Maybe you should do a series of your sampler collection in the NEAR future. Have a good Christmas and may the New Year bring you more samplers to your collection. We can actually hear Mira purring - what a lovely sound.
Thank you Nicole! I do plan to show more samplers from my collection in upcoming RU-vid videos. Going to record one really soon as well... :D. And yes, I'm so happy the microphone caught her purr - she's so sweet! :D
I am enjoying your video series so much! Thank-you for sharing so much history, stitching, stories, your own story, Christmas traditions, music and of course, Mira. I have 3 cats that bring me so much joy! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!
I’ve stitched Mary Wereat as I loved the tree border too. She is a really enjoyable sampler and I hope someday more information can be found out about her.
What a beautiful story of Mary…would love to see you chart her second one as well, if only these beauties could actually talk & tell us their story but I guess that is why we love them the journey of investigation ♥️ Fabulous work Jacob such a collection you have of samplers…
Oh Jacob! What amazing finds! Has me wondering if Mary stitched one for each of her grandmothers or her daughters? It is a lovely pattern from the 1700’s too! Lucky you! Cheers 🧑🏻🦰🇨🇦
Thank you Marilyn - and yes that is what I think as well - perhaps grandmothers, perhaps cousins or children. It could very well be that our Mary was a grown woman when stitching these two samplers, and she might've stitched them for her nieces or something like that. I do hope one day to find out more about her though. Research is ongoing! :D
Thank you Susan! Kitty is very happy when she sits on my lap. She gets mighty confused when I record videos as I'm clearly talking to her but then kinda ignore her whilst she should be getting all the cuddles... 😂
What an amazing find! It’s so wonderful to have the two samplers back together again. Just think of Mary holding them together in her hands…. What a story there must be to those samplers! ❤ Wishing you a Merry Christmas and many blessings in the New Year.
It very much is not common at all... this is pretty much one of the only ones that I have ever come across :D. And yes, my cat was purring very loudly and it was caught on mic, which makes me very happy! :D. She's a sweetie :D.
Thank you Natalia! I do think they must have been gifts and she worked very diligently on them to get them neat and finished together. I do hope to one day learn more about Mary :D
Hehe thank you Jess! My current recording setup means that the cats are pretty much always in the studio so who knows, Neko (the other one) might even make an appearance in a video once! :P
Both of them seem to have been sewn onto a tiny plank originally. The plank that mine was on had holes drilled into it through which the sampler was sewn onto the wood. As the wood is giving off acidity and is detrimental to the sampler, I had to remove that. I have sewn mine (temporarily) onto a piece of cotton on a stretcher.
