The whole time i was just thinking of how absurdly powerful this guy is to just warp everyone including a whole police department’s reality into dancing and singing a whole number. What a funny and absurd flex. This is still one of my favorite flicks of all time.
I love that policewoman's reaction to spontaneously bursting into song. She clutches her chest and clearly has no idea what the hell's going on, but then just decides to roll with it. I also remember Doyle saying later on that as a result of this, the SWAT team actually received an offer to open in Las Vegas.
Whoever played that policewoman was a really good actress in my opinion. To be able to do it naturally, with a straight face, and all the while in front of Jim Carrey.
If anyone wants to know a deeper reason on how the mask was able to make the police force dance like that, it's because the Mask can warp reality. I know the movie is very cartoony, but what you see on the screen is legit his powers. He's actually insanely powerful, in the comics he kills people in brutal (cartoony) ways and very few are able to fight against him on equal ground.
This scene has nothing to do with his reality warping powers. The Mask is possessed by the God of Mischief Loki who has the power to influence and control a person's will. The Mask used this particular ability to manipulate the police to dance so he could ultimately escape.
Actually Deadpool came out first by about 5 or 6 months technically the original Deadpool would be Taskmaster since one of His creators would later go on to create Deathstroke who everybody knows as the Man DP ripped off.
What makes this funnier to me is when I realizes years ago that, right at the start, while he's barricading the gate...all those cops are just watching him do it and not drawing or anything until he turned around. lol
I remember when I was little I would replay this scene over and over, been at least 8 years since I saw this movie and this scene still entertains me 😆 the cops though🤣🤣
When you think about the raw power on display in this movie, they really lucked out that Stanley was the one who found the Mask - relatively harmless goof vs someone with genuine darkness inside them.
you should check out the original comic this movie is loosely based on, in it Stanley is an angry man who has fantasies about killing people who he thinks have wronged him, gets the mask, and goes on a killing spree. the scene from the comic that this one is sort of adapting in the comic was Stanley massacre-ing the entire police force
The moment the Mask threw the maracas away and something broke off-camera, gets me every time! Absolutely hilarious!! And honestly, if I were there, I wouldn't care in the least that the Mask compelled me to dance...I'd STILL dance the night away regardless...it sounds like way too much fun!! By far one of the film's best, and funniest, moments!!

I always thought that Jim Carrey would be perfect for the role of Live Action Genie and this video just proves my point! Nothing against Will Smith, I think he did fine, but I think Jim Carrey would’ve done much better.
I remember watching Ace Ventura... I instantly fell in love with this guy. Jim is the funniest man ever and I don't think someone else will come close to that! He has an unique way of acting
Back in 1994 Jim Carrey was at his peak. He could do no wrong. Amazing acting powers. But like they say the brightest flames burn out the quickest. I haven’t seen a Jim Carrey film in ages.
He was in the Sonic movies as Dr. Robotnik. Thos movies came out like 1-2 years ago. They were also extremely popular, or at least the first one was. What are you talking about when you say his star burnt out, no it didn't. The most you can say that for is the 7 year period between Kick-Ass 2 and Sonic 1 because he wasn't in anything popular and missed some years but his career spans like 30 years dude and he's 60. Seems like his star barely faltered.
So for 5 years out of like 40? Because his gf at the time died in 2015 and the Trump shit was only between 2016 and 2020. So when did his star burn out?
Knowing my parents, I'm honestly surprised they let my watch this movie as young as I was introduced to it. I'm so glad I got to grow up with this absolute gem of a film.
One of my favorite lines was shortly after the scene when him and Doyle are coming out of the police station he says, "I still can't believe it. Hardened cops dancing in the street, and broadcast all over the 11:00 News." It's funnier if you think about what the real life consequences would be, for an entire police force sent to arrest a guy and instead end up joining him in an impromptu street party. I think the chief of police would be asked for his resignation.
Ohhh my god, I forgot about this scene! I LOVE Cuban Pete! I hear he's king of the rumba beat! When I hear those maracas they go chik-chiky-boom chik-chiky-boom. Yessir I know Cuban Pete
This scene taught me a valuable lesson as a kid: Anyone wearing that outfit is about to put in work the moment those maracas come out of the waistband.
What makes this scene next level is that The Mask could've just killed everyone if he wanted to, but he chose to make a spectacle out of the entire Police Force. Lol
