The Mask of Mirrors by M A Carrick | Book Review (Spoiler Free) [CC] 

"I love a con woman story, anything with a long con, it's great" ---> While I love the idea of them, I have to admit in practice, I tend to find them quite stressful. Somehow I find myself constantly fretting if they'll be found out. Same for undercover cop, double agent, or even simply "I'll use this distraction to break into their office and snoop around a bit, I'll just have to make sure I'll make it out in time before they return". What I fnd funny about this, is that I don't seem to find things like "battle for life and death" stressful, or a character having to survive in the wilderness, or a city, with nothing.

I've been so excited to read this one and I'm loving the good reviews I'm starting to hear. It makes me think a bit of things I liked from Six of Crows and Mistborn so I'm excited to try this one out! And I'm def going to be checking out City of Lies too!

Just picked up a copy today and am LOVING it! It definitely gives me those Venetian vibes 😁

Have you read Lies of Locke Lamora

Hi! Great review :) Another heist fantasy series that takes place in a city (which is also compared to Venice) is The Lies of Locke Lamora! I found that Mask of Mirrors is verrrry similar to The Lies of Locke Lamora in plot buildup (starting out with a lower scale scheme but large scale magical threats just disrupting everything) and like I said, setting vibes! It also has the found family trope 😊

I'm almost 300 pages into the book and I still don't get what the character alsius is supposed to be.. all I got is that he's supposed to be a voice inside Vargo's head (I guess). will there be more elaboration on him later on in the book?
